ROLEPLAYING WITH

WHAT IS EMOTION?

Emotions could frankly be considered as a strong feeling, something that could affect someone's mood or how they react to certain situations.

WHY COULD IT BE IMPORTANT TO ROLEPLAY WITH EMOTION?
Roleplaying with emotion can grant an opening to new sorts of roleplay experiences. It would also lead to making your character seem more human and real.

WHAT IF THEY'RE 'EMOTIONLESS'?

Whether you choose to make them full of emotion or not is entirely upon you. Though, if you plan on making your character seem more real and 3D, adding more depth in emotions and reactions to certain things could benefit that.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES?:
  • Anger
  • Fear
  • Nervousness
  • Love
  • Envy
  • Regret
  • Happiness

(MORE ON TYPES)

ANGER.

Anger is a rather complex emotion and can be treated in a variety of ways. Such as making a fit, crying, or taking it out, and others...

[OPTION 1] ANGER- SHIFTING THE BLAME
If your character is someone who can't seem to deal with having the blame put on them, this is probably one of the best options that could fit with them. Now, if they want to take it out on others, they'd definitely try and say something around 'If you hadn't...' 'It's your fault...' 'Look at what you did...'- They'd always make sure that it'd be YOU, not THEM.

[OPTION 2] ANGER- TAKING IT OUT ON OTHERS
Now, for this option, they'd use others as their punching bags. Not caring whether or not they get affected during their anger phase. They would either physically hit them, or they'd shift the blame- something around what was listed above.

[OPTION 3] ANGER- CRYING / OVERWHELMING SADNESS
They'd most likely decide that it's too overwhelming for them, they'd feel as if they're in a room of no escape. Their anger would be too unbearable that they can't even seem to get that mad at other people. This would fit well with characters who get overwhelmed or pressured easily.

FEAR
Fear can be shown in many ways. Now as for the definition, it's really when you feel frightened of a situation or another party…

[OPTION 1] FEAR- UNABLE TO MOVE/ TOO SCARED TO MOVE
They're in a state where they aren't given enough reaction time to something. Unable to grasp how they should feel, they're stuck and still just like a deer to flashing headlights. This would work well with characters who find it hard to react on time to certain matters.

[OPTION 2] FEAR- PRETENDING IT DOESN'T EXIST
They'd probably just decide to gloss it over, though extremely afraid on the inside. Perhaps even showing subtle hints of it, just to feel brave, they'd pretend as if it doesn't affect them and they're simply unafraid. Would work well for prideful characters.

[OPTION 3] FEAR- SCREAMING/ SHOUTING/ SHAKING
This is considered the most common reaction to fear, only having their vocals and body to support them. Screaming, shouting, shaking and all would practically be one of the best things to do in this scenario. Perhaps to alert for help? This would work well for a lot of personality types.

LOVE [ROMANTIC]
Love is practically one of the most confusing and complex emotions there is. Though the feelings may be the same, how people may react to it or use it could be completely different...

[OPTION 1] LOVE- DENIAL
Unable to accept the fact that they may be in love with said person, they could resort to bullying them or pushing them away just so that feeling doesn't come back again. In some cases, they'd really just pretend it isn't there, looking for another label to call what they're feeling.

[OPTION 2] LOVE- FLIRTATIOUS
They may or may not be aware of how deep their feelings for them are, this doesn't change the fact that they want to pursue them. Using each interaction with the person they love as some sort of gateway to their endless teasing and constant flirting. This could fit well with characters who are natural-born flirts or people who would like to act on their feelings now rather than later.

[OPTION 3] LOVE- I LOVE YOU BUT I DONT LOVE MYSELF
They're people who find it hard to even love themselves, and find it harder to love someone else too without the constant thought of them not being good enough for said person. This usually leads to no advancement in their relationship. Fits well with anxious characters.

ENVY
A feeling of jealousy, and a want to be in someone else's shoes apart from theirs. Characters who experience this often either have a superiority complex or low self-esteem…

[OPTION 1] ENVY- IGNORING SAID PERSON'S FAULTS
This is usually whenever they're too busy admiring what the person does right or have, they completely forget what difficulties they have. This would most likely lead to a feeling that they deserve more than the other person because they've experienced more difficulties. This would do very well with low esteemed characters with a secret thought of superiority.

[OPTION 2] ENVY- HATE
They would usually end up having their feelings develop into hate for them. Going off whenever they're around, the person doesn't even have to be bad to be a subject to their envy. This would do well with characters who are short-tempered and want the simplest reason to dislike someone.

[OPTION 3] ENVY- COPY CAT/FOLLOWER
They would try to replicate the person's life, trying to BE that person. Feeling as if they aren't good enough, so why don't they just be someone who is? This would go well with people who are unsure of who they are.

HAPPINESS
[HUGE VARIETY OF INTAKES TO EVEN CLAIM THREE]

GRIEF

Grief is something that can be taken in different ways and having different habits develop from it. It isn't something that should just be 'Oh well she died, what's your new chars name again?' - How characters take death is entirely up to the author though it doesn't change the fact that they have to have some kind of reaction when hearing the news, even if it's as bad as not caring. There has to be at least one comment from your character to someone else's death, it wouldn't make sense if they just died and they felt no course of their day shift or if it wasn't even looked at before. Now you could use the excuse of sociopathy, but if they were a sociopath trying to fit in- they'd most likely even pretend to care about it.

NOTE: [ I did this at 3AM alongside doing a school project, so some things may be a bit rushed... Though, you don't have to choose the options or choose to follow what I said. you can do whatever, it's your character. However, I do recommend having your character feel or pretend 2 of these emotions ]
