Hobbies ~ Nyla adores writing, especially poetry. She also is a very talented pianist, and always carries a keyboard on her to practise whenever she can. She also dabbles in singing, but keeps that hobby hidden away in her room.

Nyla was born on a rainy summer night. Her mother was a young florist who lived in poor part of Kiso Valley in Nagano. She suffered with multiple drug addictions as well as a severe alcohol problem. Nyla was the result of a one night stand that Nyla’s mother, Amaya had with a traveller from Portugal. Amaya hadn’t known she was pregnant and by the time she had found out, the father had already left Japan, however this did not disrupt Amaya’s thoughts on her pregnancy. She wanted a new start in life, and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. But just like any good story, things did not fall into place. Throughout the pregnancy Amaya fell incredibly ill and passed away during childbirth. Amaya had an unsuccessful life, and before her death wanted to name her daughter ‘Nyla’. She thought of the name based on her favourite book that she found on her way to work one evening. It was about an Arabic woman called Nyla. Amaya loved the name and in doing more research discovered the name meant, ‘The Achiever, The Successful one.’ A name fit for champions. Amaya believed by giving her daughter this name, the spirits will grant her success in life. And with that, Nyla went off to a foster home.
Or maybe, foster ‘homes’ is a better way to describe it. Despite Nyla’s name, she had unfortunate luck with the foster home system. The longest she stayed in a house was 6 months, until she was sent off to another one. Nyla wasn’t a troubled child, in fact, she was quite the complete opposite. She never spoke, she wasn’t mute, but she just had nothing to say. The only reason way she was sent from home to home was the family’s thought ‘She didn’t feel part of the family’, and that was the same excuse they gave every single time. Growing up, Nyla didn’t have many friends, and she was okay with that. She enjoyed her own company. And her own hobbies. When Nyla was 7 she use to sneak into one of the churches in her town every Sunday and watch the pianist play, she would study every hand movement, every key, every sound, until eventually she would copy him with her air piano. One day the pianist noticed her watching and offered to teach her. Every Sunday for 8 years. His name was Fuyuki Ren, a man in his late 40’s. He would sit down with Nyla every week after church and teach her his talent. He was the closest thing to family that Nyla had, and she worshiped him for that.
When Nyla was 15, she had enough of the foster care system. She wanted to run away, and that’s exactly what she did. She had no desire to stay in her small town with nowhere to call home. She basically raised herself, so she knew she wouldn’t miss anything, except Fuyuki, but she knew this is what she had to do.
So, it was set, she took multiple trains until she reached her new home. Well she didn’t exactly have a place to stay yet, but she knew she had priorities first. She applied for Taketatsu High School, and with her surprise, got in! Nyla was a smart girl, so she had no problem with the academic part of school, and with a few white lies about her family and her living situation, she passed with flying colours!!
Since then, Nyla still doesn’t have a steady place to live, but she doesn’t mind. She finally feels free, feels alive. She had set up a little camp in the woods, not far from the school and she couldn’t be happier. She was able to earn a bit of money by doing a few odd jobs for people in the town and she was able to save up to buy her own keyboard so she could continue practising, it also helped her to remember Fuyuki. It’s been two years since moving and she still hasn’t managed to make many friends, but she’s at peace with that. Nyla knows that her time will come. Her time for success, will come.
