Backstory:

Dan Tavel was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. His father worked as a Private Investigator for the SLCPD [Salt Lake City Police Department] and his mother was a Chef. Usually, a child grows up to want to be like his parents, but for Dan, this wasn't the case. Dan wanted to be an athlete, specifically, a gymnast, and that's what he pursued. He was good, really good actually, he was flexible and fast, perfect for much more complex moves. He even thought about joining his schools cheer squad, but as guys on the cheer squad were scarce, he was rejected. His heterochromia also putting him at a disadvantage due to people thinking it was some or of rare disease that could be contracted.

One day during high school back in Utah, he had jumped in to stop some kids from roughhousing a smaller, more nerdier kid. The bigger guys responded by pulling out a knife and slashing at him, cutting open the skin around his eye. Magnificently, he was still able to see, but it left a nasty scar. The kid he had helped had called an ambulance, and had visited him in the hospital as the scar healed. Dan soon learned that the kids name was Kyle, and they would soon become best friends.

During practice one morning, Dan had over estimated his jump and sprained his ankle. An exchange student by the name of Carson Harvey had told him that he had some medication that could help with the sprain, and took him down to the nurses office. He pulled out a needle with a strange liquid inside, and injected it into Dan. In seconds Dan was knocked out, hearing Carson say "This won't hurt at all."

Dan woke up, in what seemed to be an empty room, but something was different. He could hear someone telling him what to do. The voice didn't sound bad, so he listened, in fact, he liked the voice. He had opened the door to see Kyle sitting outside, same crazy look in his eye as Dan. Kyle had kept talking about wanting to be happy, and how he was always bullied and such, which made Dan want to cheer him up all the time. By the end of it, Dan had ended their conversation with "Now you're Happy." and Kyle was. Kyle was happy, an insane smile grew over his face, as he stated, "Thank you, you're like a Jester. Making me happy, and laugh." Dan gained comfort from this, knowing that his best friend was happy, and that's when the voice in his head kicked in. "Jester." it said over and over again, haunting him in his sleep even.

Jester had met with the Carson fellow multiple times, and when their school planned a trip to Japan, Carson, Happy and Jester decided they'd stay for a lot longer than the school trip anticipated. Being in a new country gave them a sense of stride, allowing them to do whatever they wish. However, that feeling was cut short when Carson was arrested. This made Happy and Jester go over the top, their insanity taking over as they started to threaten random civilians. Until one day, a robotic man showed up to stop them. . . and by robotic, I mean, his legs were in some sort of robotic exo-skeleton. They continuously told Happy to calm down, telling him "no" to wanting to be friends and other various acts. Happy lost it and attacked them, ending up killing one. However, his insanity was cut short by the robotic man decapitating him. Jester had lost it himself after watching his best friend lose his head, going berserk on the robotic man, only being able to hit him once before the police had showed up, and Jester was put into the hospital for a wound he was given in prison.

Jester walked though, and continued to harass the robo-man until he was inevitably taken in by police and placed in a mental asylum. They did experiments on him, trying to figure out how he became how he was, as they figured out it wasn't neurological, it had to be chemical. However, they did manage to tame it, somewhat, they couldn't get rid of everything, but his schizophrenia was tamed before a suited man had walked in, asking for Tavel. When they talked, they talked in private, no one watching them, and the suited man had loosened the straitjacket around Dan. Later that day, Dan was hungry so he walked up to his cell door to ask for food from the guard that was normally sat outside, however, he wasn't there, and the door was open slightly. Dan freaked out and in doing so, slipped the straitjacket loose. Out of curiosity of course, he opened the door, remembering someone important to him that he had to return to. A pale girl, with white hair, short, and he called her his queen. This was one of the only memories that stayed with him during the experiments, and he knew he had to go find it. So he walked out of the asylum, scot free, and walked back to Takashima.
