Introduction

Okay, so I know this has sorta been suggested already at least from my memory of the past but I do want to bring it up since after the prices have changed. People may find this as a mere rant or complaint from a poor person (yes I am poor and what about it? balling on a budget baby), but I have actually been thinking about this even before prices were raised.

Nowadays since the pack is becoming unexpectedly bigger with new players coming on to play and wanting their own cool customs, prices had to rise, modelers had to be on their toes about the model's size, and it went as far as to start taking very inactive people's customs out of the pack if necessary. Now it's clearly understandable why these changes were necessary. I get it. HOWEVER. I personally have somewhat of a disagreement with the pricing of custom items. Custom vehicles I will not touch. They are expensive for their reason which's clearly understandable.

What's wrong with the price if you clearly understand why it's put in place?

The price is fine. . . . to an extent. Yes, I am "poor" but I want to explain why I thought about it and why I kinda have to question it. An example I had used, a simple custom of an egg with my character's face on it or a custom "moving box" that you usually see in real life to put your things in when you move compared to a custom weapon or let's say people now buying custom animals like the fox plushie (the one vibing on your shoulders) and such.

Yes, these are all examples of customs. They were made in a program. That's the only thing that makes them similar. However, the time, the many blocks, the many textures, it takes to actually have these types of things done, let's not forget about the important one: the size of the whole model makes them different. Because now you have to sit there ask yourself, do I really wanna pay about 40 bucks for a little egg custom? Doesn't sound too reasonable especially if it's like 1-3 cubes needed to make with a bit of texture, something that could be done within a few hours if you know what you're doing obviously.

What is your point?

Thanks for asking actually! I was just getting there. Hear me out, please! I would like to suggest having varied pricing for custom items, dependent on their size and the actual estimated time it takes to make. There could be a list of full examples of customs and their potential sizes, going from small, medium, large, and extra-large (if a custom size like that exists). This will pretty much solve the issue with the resource pack getting large in size as the original way is mainly trying to discourage the purchase of custom items, there will be people that will still buy them and as they have money, the resource pack will continuously get bigger until it takes about the average player over 20 minutes to load it. You may be like "actually no if we have more customs then yes it will take longer". But I thought the point of making sure the model sizes were small is for that reason? Oh. Okay then, shut up nerd (jk I sometimes talk to myself).

Conclusion

I just personally like the alternative of having varied prices depending on the custom's size and the estimated time it could take. This could obviously make very big customs a little less possible to buy for most people while allowing those who really wanted a custom that could barely take up space, to be able to buy it. (I just wanted the bald edition of my iris figure *sobbing*). In addition to that, I look forward to hearing everyone's opinions on it. Yes, this was somewhat of a rant from a poor person- not really, but I do think this is a good option to have :D

EDIT: I just want to make this a bit clear before others may come to repeat what others say. I’m aware this isn’t some walk in park idea that can easily be implemented ASAP or even in a mere couple of weeks. It does take a lot of planning to think about a possible execution of how to work this around and I understand that.

I also don’t believe the list would have to be long as it should only make references and comparisons. For example: Weapons ( e.g. Katanas, AK-47 [sorry I don’t know all weapon names], and rocket launchers) Big boy list! Weapons (Pistols, tasers, and pocketknife) Small boy list! It does not have to be so long and detailed and if someone needs a bit more clarity on how big their request could possibly be, they can simply ask a modeler themselves as I would ask too.

To be honest, I completely agree to this fully.
You may ask why? well here is a very long list of reasons why I agree to this.

This makes totally sense to me since customs are about 35 dollars USD and about 43.02 CAD which is sorta expensive to me as a "poor" person, (yes I
classify myself as broke, I do that often since its fun to <3)
Yet I feel like if there is a good point to this suggestion, since imagine a very small custom that takes up very little space, small amount of detail and only one colour overall, meaning dependent on sizes prices for customs could be different?? since like, not many people would like to pay 35 USD for a little customs item- I get if it was 20 USD like it used to be, and yes before you say anything I know it takes space into the pack which makes it longer to load in for people, but I feel like a good base price for a little custom should be around 20 USD again, and larger customs the same price they are now.
I am not gonna say anything about the custom cars since yes, they are much larger so that is dependent on time for making them and the prices for them are pretty reasonable.
This may just be my opinion but yeah-

Thank you for reading if you did.

I think this makes a lot of sense.. Complex customs as scythes and smaller ones such as earrings are the same price... This is strange because the time and file size differ immensely. Creative suggestion, I'd like to see it happen.

Basically what @Reedmarkable said. In Brazil 35 USD is around 175 REAIS which how it looks, really expensive. I get why this is the price and I really get that my country economy has nothing to do with SRP (lol) but if the price could get low at least for a little bit would be so much better for a lot of people ;)

1. Players could have to spend more depending on how good a modeller is at reducing file size which means inequality in how much people spend per item, which would at least annoy me.
2.This doesn't help to make the file size issue any less relevant and helps the resource pack to get larger by streamlining the process.
3. Model creation speed is already slow enough without the influx of smaller customs that we all know will be commissioned with this. Model creation speed needs to be tackled first before we go and try to add stuff that'll surely contribute to more overall products.

This is not a opinion, these are essentially facts. Nothing here is stuff I 'think' (unless stated otherwise) and is just the reality of the matter.

1. You just said a player has to spend more for a reduced file size of the model. That’s not really correct. I’m not saying to implement this as soon as possible. The modelers should be able to look at previous models they made and current ones to compare the usual size files of similar models in order to come up with a proper estimate to be able to establish a list of possible customs with their size. Personally and others who also agree or even semi agree to this prefer the varied prices for this specific reason as I mentioned, why do I need to pay something so expensive for a tiny custom that again, takes a few hours to make?

2. if there was a true problem and issue with the resource pack growing too large, they could have easily taken the option to buy custom items out of the store. Yet they didn’t. Modelers will lose their purpose a bit and they money they earned from people always buying customs will pretty much come to a slow halt. Mind you that they’re also trying to remove old custom items from the resource pack as players who have been permanently banned who bought customs will no longer be playing and there is no necessary need for them. The removal of those custom items will quite possibly catch up in the long run.

3. Indeed it is understandable that their time/speed in making these models are slow for many reasons that deal with their ooc schedule, the complication of the model itself and so on. Though as I stated before this doesn’t have to be implemented right away. They need to take the time together as a team to sort this kind of thing out.

I hear you and I understand your logical reasoning behind your opinion uwu

What I said was that some players would have to spend more money on the quality of a modeller in reference to model size capability, Which is correct. My car model is smaller then some peoples toy hat models.

It is a true issue. Plenty of SRP players can't even log on without turning the pack off.

they could have easily taken the option to buy custom items out of the store. Yet they didn’t.
They haven't taken it out because SRP is a business, most profits come out of SRPS 3d-models purchases. It has little to do with it being a player problem as much as it does how much money they'll lose by not taking advantage of it.

The removal of those custom items will quite possibly catch up in the long run.
There isn't a thread of a possibility, it simply won't. With the speed old customs are removed compared to the lightning fast speeds that new customs are bought. It'd be like if you got a preschooler (old removed customs) and put it against Usain Bolt in his prime (new customs)

nooooooooo

there's such a long list for models and if this happens there will be an even larger number
this sounds good from a player perspective but it's going to be such a challenge
this is a commission-type thing and it's going to be super difficult for the modelling team and the owners

this is a supply & demand issue......and models are in high demand. that's why it went from 20 USD to 35 USD
you get a free choice already with a custom item which is pretty lenient. gives players a lot of freedom already
good idea but it wouldn't go well with execution nor with the continually growing playerbase we have

From the market i come from i usually charge on the complexity of things people order (Im a graphic designer)
and its pretty common from developing to 3d modeling I think it would makes sense to do this for customs seeing that 3D moddelers dont get paid here atleast make them charge their own prices. idk

They just earn one custom of their own after doing 5 models

- I said I would not discuss vehicle customs as they should stay their price for many reasons. It’s not about it’s files size but the purpose it serves in game. Custom items are inanimate objects. Vehicles moves. You can easily get an advantage in roleplay situations with this as you can drive far away and nobody can catch up to you even if they wanted to. It’s used to get to point a to point b ten times quick than walking/running and so on. So yes, it could be true your vehicle is much smaller than... hats but they still have their advantages

- That’s basically what I said. It is a problem. If it was such a HUGE problem they would have gotten rid of it. Huge enough to the point where only less than 1% of the server can use it.

- That’s also what I said. They would lose some good profit if they took it away and so they didn’t.

- And sure I guess it won’t catch up but what if they also started to take out customs that aren’t being used as often/bought often from shops and/or people? I won’t argue too much with their method of cleaning up the resource pack since I’m not there to witness how they go about it in the first place.

As said from hebwig, the only reason why it costs a lot of money for customs now is due to supply and demand, as well as their current long list of customs. In short they upped the price due to the amount of customs people bought when they are cheaper because their supply is behind on the demand, so they upped the price so 1. The supply can catch up to the demand and 2. Because the demand is so much people still buy like 10 customs. Knowing how many people buy customs in a day including shop owner customs which are usually about 10 ish then the customs for regular players I’d say that it’s a long long list and they are just trying to make do as fast as they can, especially since the modellers have to be careful of model size as well.

wow, this is a controversial post

for the record, +1 -1.

At first, I thought this was a good idea, but as pointed out by others, as the fan base grows, then so would the number of customs being bought. As time goes on, customs will eventually go down in significance except for the very new ones not being sold (i.e. I saw a sleeping bag custom with one person, haven't seen it since).

I still think this could be a good idea if developed properly. The problem is that custom prices will keep going down little by little. Be aware, I still classify myself as a poor person myself, I can only afford F+ and no alts right now, but calculating the risk vs. reward, the latter is too low compared to the first. I'm not trying to start an argument, despite loving a good argument, but I just wanted to put this in here.

Have a beautiful day!

Yeah everyone here is like logically right and I honestly thought about this idea way before the server got as big as it is today. It just makes sense to me but we have an overhaul of customs >;( I wanna know who has the burger Mobil and I want to afford my 100 plushies ;-;
