Describe your activity on the server:
I have been on the server for about 1.5 years. My time zone tends to put my active period during the server's quieter hours, so it has become a habit of mine to actively roam around the town to seek out meaningful interactions.
My most active GMT +8 timings are 1pm-5pm on weekdays and 3pm-6pm on weekends. (EST: 1am-5am weekdays, 3am-6am weekends).

I have been part of faculty for a year, and was briefly in GangRP before that, all on the same character. From that, I would like to think I have had plenty of experience with the server's rules, community and roleplay norms, as well as some degree of reputation.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

What position are you applying for?:

Lawyer

What is your motivation for applying?:
Two main reasons. One ideological reason.

Firstly, I would like to advance my character. The fact is, it has been a while since my character Helena has been in any interesting roleplay situations, partly due to her role as teacher. The students she is familiar with have mostly since graduated to college, and her old colleagues have also resigned, so her interactions with them have been greatly reduced. By taking on a new role, I aim to find new interactions and relationships to keep the ball rolling.

Secondly, I feel my style of writing/RP (and Helena's personality by extension) would help with this role. My study experience involved writing a lot of lab reports and laconic descriptions, so my writing tends to be quite curt and clinical (as probably seen in this application), and this bleeds into Helena's speech patterns. While this can be a problem during conventional dialogue and roleplay, I feel that it would complement Helena's role as a lawyer, and would in fact make her stand out. It would also serve as an advantage while maintaining professionalism, drafting documents and writing impartial dialogue.

I will admit that I have had limited experience with law and related studies OOCLY. However, I believe I possess the necessary rhetorical and general writing capabilities for such a role.

Finally, while not exactly a motivation for this role specifically, I am driven by the belief that roleplay should have more emphasis on enjoyment and engagement over staying true to the role. As I have said before in my teacher application, in my opinion, the role will be less about realistically portraying the occupation and more about fleshing out the environment of Karakura. These roles introduce interest and power dynamics into the community, allowing other characters to develop with them. This mindset also prevents OOC bias and abuse of power.

Do you have an understanding of Karakura’s laws & Constitutional rights?:
Yes. I intend to review them regularly for changes.

Are there any goals for you or your character with this role?:
ICly:
Helena has grown tired of her teaching position and is looking for a change of pace; most of her usual students have gone on to enter college. Her other, less mundane reason is that it would give her a new perspective on Karakura's crime, judicial processes and government, allowing her to continue her personal research on human behaviour. It would also technically give her more freedom of movement during school hours, though she might see this as more of an annoyance.

OOCly:
I wish to develop Helena's identity as someone who appreciates intellectual discourse and due process. In addition, I feel her character has gotten stale from being in the same role and power dynamic for too long, so this is simply a way to introduce change, growth and narrative to her character. To this end, my application for this role is unsuccessful, I will look for another that makes sense ICly.

In your own words, describe what the position you’re applying for does within the government:
The most obvious job of a lawyer is legal representation. Given a client, a lawyer represents them, advocating for them in the courtroom and advising them on actions for ideal outcomes. Being impartial is not the lawyer's job, it is the judge and juries'.

Lawyers put in the legwork to gather any and all evidence pertaining to the case, then present them in a way that helps their client. Of course, they must disclose all materials and findings to the opposing counsel as well. To understand their client well enough to represent them, lawyers should be willing to put in the time to speak with their clients and study the circumstances surrounding them. The same goes for the opposing counsel's witnesses; the ability to question and cross-examine the testimonies of relevant witnesses and experts is crucial.

Outside the courtroom, drafting up legal documents is another big responsibility of lawyers. Among these documents are court summons and restraining orders.

An idealistic way to view a lawyer's job is that of one who upholds the truth and maintains justice alongside the system. However, I believe that a lawyer's most basic responsibility is to test the system, putting the laws and authorities under continuous stress to uncover flaws. In other words, the rule of law is absolute -- in the courtroom. Losing a case may not necessarily be a good thing, but it is always a learning experience.

Do you acknowledge that upon being accepted you can be subject to removal at any given time?:
Yes.

Do you understand that you’re expected to be dedicated to your position upon being accepted?:
Yes.

Are you aware that any display of OOC bias toward anyone on the job will result in punishment?:
Yes.

Have you read & agreed to follow the Government Faction rules?:
Yes.

Are you able to attend weekly meetings & events?:
Yes, within reason for my time zone.
