What's the title of your suggestion?: Dyeable Item Models

What's your suggestion?:
There are a lot of super cool items already on SchoolRP but I suggest to take it to the next level:
Using Leather Horse Armor, any HEX color can be used and with improved modeling of the item models, this means
that in many cases the full color, or detail-color of items can be changed.

Take for example my Fedora item, it currently is black but I suppose I have a brown-ish skin or a more lighter/white skin,... this black wouldn't nicely match then for me and I would NEVER buy the item. I think this feature can boost economy and bring more interaction to the server.

Besides the technical part of this, I suggest some new way of changing colors will be introduced. A simple command, in my opinion, is not roleplay friendly and too simple. It would be way cooler if either player-run shops will open for this or that "flower gathering" will be implemented with which users can get dyes in a new working bench/gui in which they can then pick their own HEX color if enough flowers/dyes are provided

How will this benefit the server and community?:
- It will boost economy because players will now buy more,.. maybe even fashion freaks will buy many of the same items just to recolor them properly
- Makes it way easier for (especially new) players to customize their character nicely,..
- Brings a new activity and possible store and "group/cult/whatever" to the roleplay

+1 this could make the laundry place more popular, Like having a cost do dye stuff but it being done in there.

this is actually a really cool idea.

this makes sense from an anti-bloat standpoint since it doesn't need a new texture/model to be put into the pack. recolourable models are a thing that are supported and used in SRP already, though only with a very minimal list of items. (57 items as of 8 september)

converting models from their standard form to a recolourable one would require them to be re-textured with greyscale and some in-game magic to turn all these iron horse armours to leather (with a colour that is bound to be slightly different from the existing colour)

a bunch of new and recent items are moving to this more modern approach already (yoga mats, bike racks, plastic crates)

what i would like to see though is colourable customs, maybe as a new product in the shop. let's say for example i want to order custom glasses, but i want one pair to match with multiple different outfits ingame. normally, you'd have to order SEVERAL of the same item, with colourable customs you'd only have to buy one more expensive custom and be able to get it in whatever colour you'd like. these colourable items should be considerably more expensive than their regular counterpart, and requesting copies would need the user to provide a hex colour as well as being more expensive.

in short, updating old models to support colours will be tedious, but future items will likely continue working this way (?)

neutral on this one

Agreed 100%. Tinting in Blockbench may sound straightforward in theory (it's literally just a checkbox), but in practice many models have faces or elements that shouldn’t be dyeable. In those cases, a single element often needs to be split into two, and every visible dyeable face has to be assigned the correct tint configuration.

On top of that, creating a proper grayscale isn’t as simple as just desaturating the texture. From experience, it’s better to find the right undertone and generally keep the grayscale on the brighter side, so the final colors don’t end up looking washed out. As 2500 mentioned, doing this for many older items would take quite a while, which is why I support the idea of instead releasing a separate store package to accomodate for this feature.

Thank you for your suggestion!

- We may make some models dyable, however it will not be possible to do this for re-skinned items / personalised ones
