Housing Updates

What's the title of your suggestion?: Housing Updates

What's your suggestion?:
My suggestion is to add basements to current houses since they're not that the big (the basements don't need to be huge, just there for more room), add more large houses, add more regular houses, and add more mansions.

How will this benefit the server and community?:
This would benefit the community by providing more houses and bigger housing spaces for the people who wish to own houses rather than apartments or penthouses. Not everyone wants to live in an apartment or a penthouse, some people enjoy the realism of living in a house with their family. People enjoy using houses rather than apartment style housing because it feels more realistic for families.

As someone who used to spend hours looking for empty penthouses, I understand where you're coming from. However, there needs to be some "scarcity" to these types of housing. Let me explain; if everyone had access to these, there would be no point for Karakura to have apartments or other more common places to live.

Furthermore, I'm not sure where new houses could be built at this point; While it's not necessarily impossible, it would require a lot of thinking into urban logistics to rearrange existing buildings to make room for more housing. As for basements, I'm hesitant to agree, considering these used to be exclusive to teams back in the day. If I remember correctly, they were removed to make space for the revamped sewers (though I could be wrong!!! it's been quite some time). I assume that point still applies to this day, so adding these would also mean having to rebuild the sewers's layout too.

The estates aren't even used - they are always empty - the housing could go there. There's also the convention center which isn't used either, could fit a couple of houses there.

If they really wanted to, they could make it happen.

-1, As cool as it would be. Some houses like Yonio said would eat into the sewers. A lot of houses however do have rooms for attics that do not get used. I do not know the reason for this, But if there isnt a reason itll be nice to have them. Storage area's like attics usually are.

You make a fair point! But the thing with this argument is that Karakura isn't meant to use most of its space for housing purposes. It's meant to look cohesive, and relatively close to a Japanese's urban layout. Moreover, even if staff technically "can" do it, it doesn't mean that public areas should be automatically privatized (besides, the builders put a lot of effort into these areas!).

Many players enjoy exploring and making use of Karakura’s public spaces, and taking that away from new players just to add a few extra houses could easily backfire. Even if more plots were added, what’s stopping someone from making this same suggestion once they’re all taken again? From my point of view, it creates a loop that's better if left untouched.

I understand that the builders worked hard on these builds, and I agree not everything should be privatized, however people aren't allowed in the estates - those are already privatized areas which don't get used... It's also not fair due to the size of these - the estates go all the way back into the mountains, having rooms inside of cave like areas. They have all of this room yet no one is ever there so wouldn't it be better to turn them into spaces people could actually used, i.e. houses, large houses, mansions? The convention center was just an example of a space not being used, maybe have it become more shop space or add a bowling alley there since people seem to be upset that the old one was removed.

As for the basements, they're not necessarily needed, just a thought. I agree with what Aircon said about the attics, they would be nice to have access to rather than just blocked off completely. This would solve the problem of space without causing issues to the sewers.

it would effect with the sewers, its better to just keep it the way they currently are

There are many places all around the map that have empty apartments or even sometimes houses that I see all the time. We have more than enough housing for the current player base since you can only own one property across all accounts
You can also argue it’s realistic for families to live in apartments as many, especially in Japan, live in apartments or small houses unless further out in the country (from what I understand with my research at least, but my point still stands that it’s very common to see families in apartment)
The basement idea would eat into the sewers for a good majority chunk as well.

I understand why the idea is there trust me I do cuz I own a house myself and like the extra room, it’s just not doable in ways that I at least come up with myself either other than maybe Loz’s idea of attic space

As someone who has access to the Saiky Estate, believe me they get used.
Your timezone is just not ideal.

As for the rest of the suggestion, -1
- Mansions are too big to justify anymore then maybe one or two more.
- I am actually +1 for more large houses but only if they expand the map.
- Basements would dig into the sewers.

We quite literally do not have the space on the server to make as many large houses and mansion plots as we can especially since there is no urgent demand for them. If there is no need to make more properties available (given the mass extra amount we have) then it likely isn't going to be prioritized. In terms of estate usage, the Saiky estate is used frequently by the family, and the Akihito estate is open to the public for anyone that wishes to roleplay inside and explore!

-1,

I’m one of the mansion residents. I don’t feel the need for more of them, since they’re meant to be elite and difficult to get

Thank you for your suggestion!

- Basements are only granted to special properties; typically permanent ones.
