APPLICATION INFORMATION

What position are you applying for?:

Lawyer

What is your motivation for applying?:
In RP I have experienced numerous instances where my characters or other characters' constitutional rights have been violated ICly. These actions, while fun and all, spurred my interest in the legal side of Karakura. I wish to be "fighting" the good fight as it were; advocating for those who need it. I believe the legal aspect to Karakura and SRP on the whole is entirely fascinating to the point where I have memorised a majority of the Karakura Constitution and I frequently reference and my characters refer to the articles enshrined within with regularity. That aside, I've had a plethora of interactions with government members out of character having large and in-depth discussions about Karakura law and how it can be interpreted or enforced. These conversations drive me to want to join even further; an argument about this, with actual stakes and someone's future potentially on the line? It sounds like it could be some pretty exhilarating roleplay if others have the same passion for it. Beyond that, I would love for a chance to play another adult character that is not my professor and I think the government would be a delightful faction to test the waters of.

On another much more personal note, joining this faction would allow for me to take over a family that has long since been in decline. This is something I've been endeavouring to prevent for some time now and now, the opportunity feels ripe and I feel well prepared to give not only the family and character the attention I feel it deserves, but also use that to motivate faction activity in excess.

Do you have an understanding of Karakura’s laws & Constitutional rights?:
Wholly and completely, yes.

What are your goals for being in Government Faction?:
I wish to have a character who defends those who need it most, criminals, wrongdoers, falsely accused and all who fall in between in this city. I believe that the government faction would help bolster my activity on the server itself while also allowing me to have RP with many new individuals. The overarching goal being, to socialise and foster more unique roleplay opportunities.

In your own words, describe the different roles of the Government Faction:

Lawyers: Their duties are nothing short of exhaustive but every bit of it has its place and purpose. The simplest of tasks are done at the front desk, whether it be manning it, issuing ID cards, or coordinating with members of the public to ensure their voices and complaints are sent to the correct place, the front desk is where the world’s most mundane magic happens. Another venture of the lawyers is that of evidence collection and the filing of restraining orders when requested by an individual. Typically requiring 3 separate instances of harassment, or an arrest charge related to the victim. These are an underutilised but indispensable function of the lawyer. Beyond the Narnia-like realm of the desk is the personal responsibilities of lawyers, that of getting clients. Whether it be getting put on retainer or just distributing their information, lawyers are responsible for proactively client-seeking so as to manage their personal issues, often with discretion and an unrivaled efficacy. Beyond this, the pièce de résistance of their responsibilities is that of representing their clientele in court during trial proceedings. Whether it be civil or criminal proceedings, it is their responsibility to prepare and gather evidence, plan their arguments, and arguably most critically, plan their questions for cross-examination of witnesses.

Judge: If the lawyer’s responsibilities are considered exhaustive, that of judges could be considered weighty, consequential. Their largest burden to bear is giving the final verdict for the cases that make it to trial, which may weigh heavily. Beyond this, they approve or deny warrants requested by KPD, reviewing the available evidence and information to do so. From here, their duties simplify, varying from filing adoption paperwork and all of the necessary hurdles required to process one, such as verifying the eligibility of the parent, collecting the fee, checking that appropriate residency is had, and so on. There are other tasks which they execute, very similar in nature regarding a large amount of due diligence, officiating marriages as well as divorces, issuing of ID cards while working the front desk, aiding in the processing of restraining orders, and other general busywork tasks that may come with a day of desk duty. Most of these jobs require extreme prudence and attention to detail as there are multiple facets to most of them, all of which must be referenced and completed according to procedure.

Governor: Possibly one of the most under-represented members of government, in days past they were assigned to districts and maintained them while also conducting assessments of the shops within them. I do not believe they represent districts now, though shop inspections still fall under their purview. Now, their responsibilities are much less prominent, largely relegated to most of the desk work tasks that the remainder of the government undertakes, such as that of issuing ID’s, directing guests as requested, taking both complaints and suggestions from citizens alike, though the former is most prevalent in a city such as this. Additionally, with relation to the public opinion, they are responsible for surveying the public on public affairs. They also handle the standard bread and butter of adoptions and marriage filings, both of which while compared to an appetizer, are in-fact just as critical to the smooth running of the government as they are a meal. Bread-adjacent duties aside, they act as courtroom officiators, or are intended to. From introducing the case to maintaining meticulous record of it, onto maintaining the trials efficiency.

Deputy-Mayor: The second-in-command, or right-hand person to the Mayor themselves. They oversee not only the lawyers, judges, and governors with their respective cabinet members where necessary, they often execute mayoral duties in the absence of the mayor herself. Whether it be advising or assisting with the implementation of new administrative policy, or just managing the remainder of the local government, their role is not only an important one but an integral one. They are also responsible for ensuring that documentation is kept orderly and perfect, that nothing goes unseen or unheard. The Deputy Mayor, or DM, may also be called on to represent the government in matters of public affairs; from attending and carrying out official ceremonies when called upon, to coordinating with other city institutions, such as KPD. Their role differs from that of those beneath them in that they are intended to be an executive role, instead of the service based one that those they oversee consists of. That said, they are still capable of carrying out the work of their underlings if so needed.

Mayor: The Mayor's responsibilities include all of the above and beyond, from being able to do anything that her underlings may to dictating which way the government operates, responds to issues within itself or the city, set the direction for future policy and legislation made within the city, as well as setting the priorities for the government itself. Not to mention, being the public's punching bag when it comes to perceived injustices or systemic issues, unfortunately so. They are to handle all of the major administrative decisions undertaken within the city, tasked with the unrealistic expectation and burden of maintaining order, all while acting as the face of the government. An immeasurable burden that often necessitates grace or a glaring lack of it to sufficiently perform.

Do you acknowledge that upon being accepted you can be subject to removal at any given time?:
Yes

Have you read & agreed to follow the Government Faction rules?:
I have read and agreed.

IN CHARACTER SECTION

Full name:

Ivanna sat prim and proper, shoulders squared away and her face unreadable. It cracked slightly for a cold but courteous smile as she spoke. "Ivanna Nihalkova, a pleasure, I am sure." Her tone was flat, with a barely-there forced level of enthusiasm.

Preferred title (Mr., Mrs., etc.):
Ivanna spoke with a modicum of authority. "Miss. I will hear nothing other than this." The words sounded as if they were dragged through gravel before they were spoken.

Current age:
A solid exhale left her lungs as she rolled her head over her shoulder to the left, entirely unamused by the question, before rolling it back forth. Perhaps her age was a somewhat touchy subject? "I am a youthful forty-three years old. Is that all?"

Date of birth:
She muttered to herself in Russian before replying to the question. "Of course that is not all..." Her response was given in the same professional tone as she began the interview with, proper and without a hint of dissent. "I was brought into this world on the 12th of March 1982."

Academic Background:
Finally, a question about my capabilities - Ivanna thought to herself, growing weary of the questions that had little if not nothing to do with herself. Pride radiated through her words as she spoke them now, a distinct shift from her initial demeanour. “I graduated at the top of my class from St. Petersburg State University, earning my Specialist’s degree in Jurisprudence.” Ivanna looked around the room for a moment, flicking her eyes unusually in a certain direction. “My parents would have no less than the best.” Her reminiscing ended as quickly as it began. “Beyond that, I went on to study and complete my Master of Laws (M.A.) in Practice of Law from the same school. Some may say this was unnecessary, though it was rather simple. Besides, my degrees don’t look so lonely as a pair, now do they?”

Work experience:
While the thin line she called an expressionless mouth cracked barely, seemingly from what could be perceived as excitement, or just a crack in a stone-cold visage, she quickly covered it up with her response. “I cannot share the specifics but I can tell you that I was quickly taken on-board for a middle-level municipal worker’s family in Saint Petersburg.” A small pause broke as she visibly fished around for the correct words in her mind. “I do miss them, they were… always interesting, we can say.”

Nationality & born location:
The Russian woman before you, who had only spoken of her time in Russia, in Saint Petersburg gave a vacant blink, almost impressed that this question still needed asking. Not just because of the readily apparent nature of the answer but also as it marked a regression in her interest for the subject matter. “Russian. Saint Petersburg.”

Criminal record:
Ivanna let out a small chuckle and filled her chest with air, much like a prideful bird may when showing off. “Do you really think a woman of my disposition would soil myself with such a vile... hobby? No. No criminal record to speak of.” While the deflective nature did not do her any favours, the fact it was true did.

What makes you a good candidate for this job?:
Yawn. Do they still need convincing? Ivanna thinks, does she really want to beg for this job? No, but her family needs her there, and the structure she will give to them. Did they want this structure? Unlikely, but she’d seen the arrest logs, two within two weeks of one of her nieces. Unacceptable.
“I am not only a good candidate but the best one you will receive on an island like this. My attention to detail combined with my inability to-” She air quoted here, a term somewhat unfamiliar to her. “‘Let things slide’, already put me a cut above the rest, or at least it did at home. Aside from this fact, I believe my experience speaks for itself as far as my qualifications go. Lastly, my family requires that I be here. Excellence must be given and shown to ensure that I can continue to provide for them, both morally and financially. I offer nothing less than excellence.”
