Would you let your kids play on SRP?

so this question interested me a LOT and was asked by _Xhast in OOC. If your kids say, are interested in roleplaying or maybe enjoy minecraft- would you let them play SRP? My answer was :

- ) I actually would allow them but - atleast at sixteen, or fifteen at best. SRP had greatly improved my writing skills as english isn't my first-language, and I met many great people through SRP and formed long-term friendships here.

What do you think? and to further this discussion, How do you imagine approaching the 'online-world' with your kids or maybe younger siblings??
The best response I've seen.

As a person who started playing SRP when I was 13, I wouldn't let my kids play on it until maybe 15-16 just for their safety since the internet is filled with creeps.

No, and I say that having been active since around 11 years old.

There are inherent risks to allowing children access to free communications in a forum like SRP. The nature of the server--being one in which, interaction with others is crucial and central to the gameplay--necessitates my hypothetical child interacting with people I'm entirely unaware of and leaves this hypothetical child at the mercy of their ideals and persuasions. There is, whether we like to admit it or not, a very real sense of anonymity allowed to those active on the server, and said anonymity has been used to manipulate several people throughout the server's lifespan into very dangerous situations. I do not believe that the server itself was complicit in any of these situations, as I'm of the opinion that the protection of children is ultimately the responsibility of the parents, however, the point exists to demonstrate my concern.

Furthermore, the integration of platforms like Discord which--argue what you like--have become nearly crucial to the server's ecosystem and individual involvement, skyrockets the potential for predatory issues.

I WILL SAY however, as a point many people fail to bring up; there's ALSO the fact that this platform is a two-way street. My hypothetical child may also not be ready for the degree of freedom granted to them by the server, and in this hypothetical, could also end up involving themselves in dangerous behavior, without the wisdom to perceive the full breadth of the situation.

Overall, I think SRP is at it's best when it acknowledges that it's player-base is late teens and up; and find the refrain that "SRP is a kid server" quite discomforting all together. SRP is a city sim, and as Erik points out, has crime, and violence, and quite complex relationship dynamics; which are themes often unnecessary for younger kids to navigate.

This server was detrimental to my development and mental health at a young age. I would sooner endorse bareknuckle street fighting strangers.
