Like Dylan said, you may use a mod for it. but another reason why the server can't use HD skins is because of vanilla minecraft that being, they only allow 64x64 skins.

-1 pretty much removing what KPD does in situations like these, making the roleplay for them limited when it's fair to begin with.

I think they are still planning on adding the compability of crossplay more players to join such as mobile users, console users to join in the fun. But if they ever find a way to fix that issue of version differences then that would be appreciated.
