have you tried doing /server? if not, perform that command and click on the schoolrp tag, or whichever server you're attempting to get to. as for why it's happening, the npc and/or the star don't work randomly for players. it's a strange thing.

the carry function isn't a mod, but a plugin. to my knowledge, some plugins used by the server are made by the developers for schoolrp and schoolrp only. i believe this could be one of those plugins.
