Calculated and thoughtful, he puts his best effort in every word. He'd even trail off-topic or pause mid-sentence to think. He enjoys a conversation and can drag one on for longer than desired, he won’t know his companion is bored of him until they say so. He struggles with a Cluster B personality disorder. He finds that he often jumps to conclusions with an inherently negative outlook, and is difficult to prove wrong. He recognizes that he can be difficult to talk to, and feels guilty that people walk on eggshells around him — His intense and often unstable relationships lead him to keep his friends at an arm’s length, friendly and sociable as he is, as he fears hurting them with his uncontrollable mood swings and often erratic behavior. Most of all, he fears abandonment.

Jiāo only wears vintage clothing from his grandparent's era, and almost exclusively wears the color pink — Not only his favorite color, but also his mother's. He wears dance shoes, typical of those worn by male dancers of the era he dresses for. Sometimes he may wear gloves. He keeps the piercings he's obtained from his rebellious young teen years; Two lip rings, three helix spikes and one lobe heart for each ear. His eyes are often depicted purple for color cohesion, but are actually brown. |

SYNOPSIS "Said to you, 'Why did you do it?' Touch the glass, I feel you through it." Yū was a bright young woman with a talent for music. She had quit her studies to pursue her true passion for the radio in spite of her parents.
She'd meet a young man, and she'd fall in love. She'd find that she was pregnant, and they would scramble to get married — though a free spirit she remained. She'd have two children during her marriage, but the struggle of motherhood was no setback for her zest of life. Yū would find that she was sick with a condition that disabled her often. This would make her husband resent her. Yū would resolve that the life of a sad housewife was no life to die for. She divorced her husband with no dramatic goodbye, put her kids in her PINK CONVERTIBLE CAR™ and left to live with her parents. Though she still sang on the side, her new focus was enjoying the little time she had left with the loves of her life. Her death was life changing for Jiāo and Ayaka, who had already been grieving in their own ways as they watched her deterioration. Jiāo was rebellious, and would become a delinquent at a young age — often stealing his mother's car to sneak out with school friends, and get into bad habits. After Yū’s funeral Jiāo would leave for days at a time, and Ayaka would search for him for days at a time. Always he would be found a mess, and always he would leave again. Eventually, Jiāo’s mental state had deteriorated in his grief. He would pack his things, and run away. Ayaka wouldn't locate him until he'd eventually be detained by authorities. His grandparents would pay the fine for his misdemeanors, but were reluctant to let Jiāo move into their home again. Difficult as it was, they'd choose to move him to Karakura with their financial support, but Ayaka would tag along to ensure he wouldn't blow his second chance. | 
SYNOPSIS "They'd all be so disappointed, cause who am I if not exploited?" Jiāo meets his first partner Dante, and his first friends Graves and Lenz. His relationships start falling apart, with their collective bad habits and poor communication skills to blame. After a messy breakup, Jiāo invites Dante to his apartment in hopes of mending their relationship — but the conversation turns violent as Dante crosses Jiāo's boundaries, and Dante is sent to the Hospital. Jiāo is beaten without major injury and is blamed for the encounter’s outcome, but they keep it a secret between friends. He begins to self-isolate in fear of his actions. He becomes distant with all people in his social circles, But Graves remains loyal. Jiāo lashes out in confusion and rage, but Graves beats him until the facts are bleeding from his head. In the end, they swear to never leave each other, and to be brothers no matter what. Jiāo was unable to truly mend his relationship with Lenz, before he disappeared without a word. |
SYNOPSIS "Mama I'm chasing a ghost — Do I look like him?" Jiāo makes new friends in Sage and Hua. He's given a third chance in their friend circle, who are rowdy and social people that test his patience every day, but help him grow. They become lifelong connections. Hua teaches him Mandarin as he tries to connect with her in a meaningful way, but these lessons help him realize the disconnect between him and his mother. He begins to truly grieve his mother's death, and is able to relive her memory. Here is when he begins to feel peace for the first time. Hua's nephew Sage becomes a fast friend. Jiāo sees his younger sister in him, and takes him under his wing as his own — an often awkward complex for both parties, though eventually he learns to give him space and to see him as his own person. The boy melts his icy exterior and helps him come out of his shell. However progressive in his attempt to better himself as a person, someone new becomes the sole token of his affection — they are perfect to feed into his mentality that he's healed, and they are quickly pinned as his Favorite. Jiāo begins to isolate from his friends. | 
SYNOPSIS "I'd never treat me this shitty. You made me hate this city." In Jiāo's momentary absence, Sage’s older brother dies. A funeral is held, and Jiāo invites the token of his affection as his plus-one, but he causes a scene despite Jiāo’s protests. He's left to grapple with the loss of a friend, and the blame put upon him for the catastrophe.
The fear of abandonment creeps up on him, and he further isolates from his friends. He relies solely on his new lover for validation and attention. His partner convinces him to have a baby, a decision he's certain of in the moment — However, he's riddled with immediate regret. At his lowest, his sister Ayaka is able to find him once more and take him into her arms. With her convincing he's able to relent to his self-loathing and seeks help from the only people he has left — Sage and Graves. He’s told that they never blamed him for his partner’s actions, and they reveal that they had no idea why he'd left in the first place. They urge him desperately to reconsider his choices. Together, they do their best to support him as he tries to get comfortable in his new normal, but his loss of autonomy drives him mad as he no longer recognizes himself, and he eventually ends his relationship. With the love and support of his friends he decides to move back with his grandparents. He says goodbye for what should be the last time, and promises to become a better person and make something worthwhile out of himself. |
SYNOPSIS "Something new, something strange. Ten feet taller, I had changed." Spending time at home where his mother deteriorated awoke Jiāo from his nightmare. His temper was tamed as he grieved and reconnected with his Grandparents, who expressed how proud they were of him. They told him that he should go where he needs to be. Where he's happy — He's reminded of the dreams he and his sister shared, and their aspirations for the future. He purchased his mother’s PINK CONVERTIBLE CAR™ from his grandparents. He fixed her up with elbow grease and the little knowledge he could find from books, and brought the old friend to Karakura alongside a newfound resilience. Jiāo finds peace where he's meant to be. He gets into college alongside his friend Creon, and realizes his desire to become a Doctor through their long talks over study papers. He gains a caffeine obsession in his religious dedication to study for medical school — determined to hold onto his one true goal in life, his one chance to truly prove himself. He's able to reconnect with Graves, who becomes a rock in hard times. They move in together, with Ayaka an elevator ride away. Finally having moved on from his past with a focus on the future, his world is rocked by the reappearance of an old ghost, Lenz, and he struggles whether to push him away or make amends. |
