JSL Language Application ACCEPTED Describe your activity on the server: Pretty active, I try to get on the server most evenings (8pm to 12am Midnight UK Time). Sometimes on the weekends maybe during the middle of the day for an hour or two (11am-4pm), then of course I'll be on in the evenings. I work during the day Mon-Fri but finish latest 5pm, so after that till around 1am I'm always available to log on if needed! GuestGuest9 is my only account, and I’d say I spend 95% of my time on my Harry character, the other 5% being my favourite Racoon Beanie! List your accounts and roles on this server: GuestGuest9: [College] Harry K. Shima [Racoon] 'Beanie' Are you aware that inactivity can result in removal from the council?: Sounds obvious enough! Yes. TRIVIA QUESTIONS What is the student council and what do they do?: From my understanding, they act as an inbetweeen of the Teachers and Students. They aid the teachers in maintaining order, safety and a fun school environment. Being still part of the student body gives them advantages that the teachers do not, being able to be right there in the very situations where problems could occur, and being a first line of defence before teachers arrive. While this sounds rather serious, the Student Council is also responsible for helping out the faculty with any of their other needs like preparing classes, helping to teachers during class, helping with events, and all round just being a helping hand to any that needs them. Student Councillors can also act as a helpful guide for newer players, helping them get where they need to go, or aiding others in finding specific rooms or locations within the school. Long story short, they're there to be available for any task, and diligent enough to spot anything amiss. What motivated you to apply for council? (e.g. Interests, friends, etc.): As I've mentioned on a few previous applications, I've always wanted to make a name for myself and become part of a faction or a role. I'm currently part of the school Occult Club and an employee at 11/7, both of which I'm very happy to be a part of. But I want to increase my scope, become part of more things, meet even more people, just become a face on the server that people might atleast recognise a bit. I think being part of the student council will be a great first step into the next chapter. I do believe that my previous applications have fallen through just due to my lack of recognition, or the fact that I haven't proven myself yet. So I hope being part of the council will give me that opportunity! Are you aware that you’ll be having to use your creativity and teamwork ethic within the student council? (e.g. Coming up and helping with events): That's what I'm here for! I REALLY wanted to be part of the event team, as per my previous application. I remember being glued to the forums, refreshing it on the review date, and I got down to the last 3 applications of the 15 or so that were submitted! But unfortunately it fell through, so I'm hoping being part of the council team will enable to me to still pursue that passion, but through a different avenue. So by all means, I'd be more than happy to help out with any events that may occur, and enjoying working in a team with you guys to coordinate such an occasion. Can you list the roles in the council along with other roles that might be important to the council?: I'd say 4 roles/groups come to mind. The Council President, Vice-President, the general Council body, and finally the School Faculty as a whole, including the teachers, caretakers and SLT. The Council President of course is the big dog, they're the one who coordinates who is doing what and where. They, alongside the Vice-President are responsible for managing the council and ensuring everyone is doing their duty correctly and often. Which brings me onto the Vice-President. While being an assistant, they still hold as much, if not the same power as the President. They are the next in line should the President not be available and should be treated with the same respect as the President themselves, having virtually the same responsibilities. Next is the general council body, of course being important to the whole council. They are the bulk of the group, my fellow students all pushing towards the same goal of a safer and more fun school environment. Then the School Faculty, which includes all teachers around the school through which the Council should aim to cooperative with. Teachers and other staff are often the first people we should call should a situation escalate to where they're needed, therefore they're a very important role that all council members should be aware of. Then finally of course, the Senior Leadership Team. This one is obvious as they are the higher ups in the school, and will always have the final say in any decision. Therefore they must be treated with the respect they deserve. IC SECTION SCENARIOS While students gather for a school assembly, one student behaves disruptively, causing a disturbance. How would you manage the situation to restore order effectively while minimizing any additional disruptions to the assembly? Harry would itch his head for a second, humming. His eyes gazed to the ceiling as he began to speak, picturing the scene in his head. "Well uh .. you know firstly I'd look around and see if another council member wasn't there already, or if someone's a lot closer to them than me. You know it wouldn't make sense for all of us to rush over and make something more of a scene than it needs to be! But of course, if no one was around I'd make my way over, but firstly just try to understand what was even going on. Sometimes the student making the disturbance, might actually have good reason to do so. Anyway .. I'd understand what was happening, ask everyone to just lower their voices and try and a solution. As I've said, no point in dragging everyone involved out of the assembly hall, just making more noise than necessary!" Harry would chuckle before continuing .. "So .. if I can sort out the situation there and then, maybe moving a student somewhere else in the hall then happy days! But of course if I can't do anything about it, I'll politely ask the student, or students to leave the hall if they can. Now also .. I dont want to be an average Councillor who hands out detention threats whilly-nilly, but at this point it may be necessary failing other options. So I'd use that trump card, maybe even threaten to call a teacher too if they still haven't sorted themselves out. At which point hopefully it'll all be sorted!" A student refuses to take their mask off after you’ve brought up detention and they’ve run away! What do you do? "Huh .. Well I must say I don't see too many students running around with masks these days so you guys seem to be doing your job very well so far! A-anyway .. well the first thing I'll do is see if I can grab a teacher and let them know, then they hopefully will be able to radio in and tell other faculty members to keep an eye out for a masked student. I'll try my best to say what they look like, clothes mostly .. as they might just end up slipping off their mask around the corner and trying to blend back in again". He would go silent for a moment before a thought seemed to pass his mind "Wait ... will we have radios too? I-i mean I'm not sure but it would make sense .. well if we did have radios then I'm sure I'd be able to call it in myself no? If a teacher was still nearby I'd of course let them know either way. But I think the most important thing is just getting every council member and faculty member aware of this student and to just keep an eye out for the rest of the day." A teacher observes concerning behavior from a student, including the creation of disturbing artwork and verbal threats toward peers. How would you collaborate with the teacher to evaluate the situation and intervene appropriately to address potential safety concerns? Harry would squint at you, raising an eyebrow .. "Disturbing .. artwork? Wow what a question um ... well I guess firstly I'd ask who this person was. You know if it was a student I'd never heard of, then it would hopefully be a simple telling off and a detention may be in order depending on the severity of ... the uh .. disturbing artwork. But then of course if it was a repeat offender then a more sever punishment may in order, potentially raising the issue to the SLT if these ... verbal threats did you say? Yeah if these threats truly were something to be worried about. Overall yeah just, I'd wanna get the full story from the teacher before addressing this, of course their word is final as they'll have more power than me, but having all the context is important. Then after that .. well yeah it all depends on how severe the teacher really thinks these actions have been, if it is just a simple detention or we really needed to get SLT involved. A group of students asks for your permission to stage a protest on school grounds. Would you allow them to protest? If so, how do you ensure that the protest does not disrupt the school environment while upholding their freedom of expression? "Well ... ah that's a difficult one ... because a school isn't really the best place to like .. protest ya know? Like of course a right to protest is very important, but during a busy school day .. yeah the crowds could get pretty wild" He'd think for a moment, leaning forwards in his chair and placing his hands together before proposing .. "Well firstly I'd just double check that they've already voiced their concerns verbally to the Senior Leadership Team. No point in jumping straight to a protest if they haven't even told anyone about their issues. So then .. if they truly are dead set on protesting, oh and also .. of course if it's actually for a good reason to protest, not something like 'We need more burgers for lunch!'. If it's a bigger issue then I'll give them my number and ask for their patience as I go and try to contact SLT. I do believe in peaceful protests really! Everyone has their right to protest, hopefully for a good cause. But it should be approved, planned, and safe." "If the protest is given the go ahead, I'd recommend a protest first thing in the morning, around the front of the school gates. This is advantageous to the protestors as they're likely to reach the biggest audience, and good for students as if they wish to avoid this protest, they can do so through the back entrance of the school if they really want to avoid it. This protest should last right until Period 2 starts, allowing all students taking part to still get to their scheduled lessons. During this protest, various faculty members and councillor members should be around just to make sure things are all going safely and orderly. One thing I always think about with protests, is that they're not necessarily about causing disruption, but rather raising awareness. This will be perfect as the protestors can raise awareness of their cause peacefully, while disruption to school life remains at a minimum. Then once the protest is over, the crowd will be dispersed, and more students will be aware of the message behind it, hopefully being within their right to voice their concerns to the SLT and see that things are changed for the better!" A teacher/receptionist has told you that you are doing something that goes against what you were trained by your higher-ups. How would you react to this? He'd sit upright, biting his lip at the scenario. "Eek okay uh .. well that wouldn't be good. Firstly I mean, I'd just apologise. Hopefully in this situation I would've just done it by accident! Of course I'd try and take it on the chin you know .. if I've done something wrong and a teacher's pointed it out then surely they know best. I'd try and like .. you know understand what I did wrong? Learn from it and all that? But yeah .. I'd be a little afraid I'd lose my councillor status already!! Either way yeah, apologise, learn from it, move on I guess." Please provide at least one detailed event that the council can use as a future event to showcase your creativity! (Must be 300 words or more for one event): Parent Day! General Premise The general idea for the Parent Day will be to allow, for one day only, those with adult characters the ability to enter the school grounds. This will mostly be for the ICly parents of students who are still in school to have the chance to show their parents around the school, to eat lunch with them and even if certain teachers allow it, to sit in on classes. This, I think is very realistic, in the sense that school I've attended in real life has had a similar Parent Day or Take-Your-Dad-To-Lunch day. This will allow for adult characters to act out the idea of visiting their child's school to ensure that they're having proper education, and to verify that they're sending their child to a good enough school. All adult chararacters will be allowed on school grounds as it can also allow for new visitors to Karakura to check out the school and see if it's worth the time and money to send their child to this school, and other role-play scenarios. Then of course, ex-students can come and visit, maybe as a group of friends to reminisce of their time at Karakura High! What will this solve? I've heard many people complain about how during school hours, there's almost no point in using their adult character. One person in /ooc jokingly said "Being an adult during school hours is pretty much a running simulator". This event could entice more variety in the school grounds atleast for a day and give people a reason to use their adult characters during school hours. It would allow for many more family focused role-play opportunities to expand on that integral part of SRP for many players. Acknowledgments Now of course this would involve talking to the moderation team about lifting the Adult Character Ban on school grounds, but I believe that this event will go smoothly. This is because those with adult characters are more than likely to have the game knowledge and respect towards such an event. Those players with adult characters have gained, said characters, either through applications on the forums or through graduating school, both of which require time, effort and game knowledge. Therefore I'm certain that those participating will understand the privilege and will act responsibly. School Club Fair General Premise What this event will be, is a chance for the various clubs around the school to advertise themselves, what they do, and even recruit new members. As a member of the Occult Club myself, I've noticed through talking to other students that there are other clubs that I'm simply not aware of. These clubs are still just as active as they should be, for example the Nap club, where I regularly spot the Nap Club Leader in their clubroom waiting to greet new guests. I believe that one way to raise awareness of these clubs is to host a fair! Much like sports fair and the halloween even of the past, this will be hosted in the basketball courts and even leak outside to the running track if extra space is needed. Each club will be able to have their own space where they can have a stall, show off custom items, sell a few souvenirs and tell other students what they're about. This will be a cool event to break up the regular school day and raise awareness for an important aspect of the school. What will this solve? As I've said before, I don't think enough people are aware of the clubs in the school. There are a few clubs that I've seen whenever I wander around school where I've never seen people inside. I've never heard of any activity or field trips or recruitments going on. Therefore this can help some of those Club Leaders to raise awareness of their clubs and recruit some new active members. It can also identify certain clubs that are inactive and give some students the possibility to apply and take over those clubs and rebuild them. Acknowledgements One big issue with this is coordinating a good time to host such an event. As best case scenario, we'll be able to get every club leader and active club member to attend this fair to best advertise their club. However this may simply not be possible. But hopefully atleast 2-3 members of each club should be able to man a stall, however big or small. And yet again, much to the annoyance of the Basketball teams, the courts will be unavailable for the duration of the event. But overall I think this will be a positive for the school! Providing an activity for the average student to wander around, while also letting those smaller clubs have a reset and grow their numbers. Personal Information (in character) Name: Harry K. Shima Gender: Male Age: 20 Phone number: (030)-237-3572 How would you describe your personality?: "Oh god I hate these questions ... uh well .. you know I'm enthusiastic? I guess? God I feel so awkward talking about myself like this but uh .. yeah I feel like I'm determined too. I've applied to a few things so far with varying success ... I've had a few .. bad experiences in life so far but I'm still here! That and diligent? You know I feel like I always wanna do the right thing. I mean .. I really just want to become part of a bigger thing! Meet new people, I'm a very social person so becoming part of a bigger club just sounds really great. I'm fun at parties too! If you guys um ... have .. parties as a council .. I-I'm sure you'll get to know me and become a better judge of my personality!" Appearance/attire (Please provide a picture): What separates you from other applicants seeking your position?: "Oh god these are really harsh questions um .. well this feels mean! I'm sure there all really nice people too but uhh .. well I want to say .. potential? If that's not corny? I want to grow more as a person, like .. I feel like I can provide an enthusiasm and eagerness that others may not provide as much. I'm excited and ready to work with all you guys, and to just be part of a fun team all working towards a good cause! Why do you want this position?: "Well .. I feel like I'm repeating myself a bit! But uh .. yeah like I've said, I wanna be part of something bigger, and the council just seems like the perfect start for me. I am a student myself of course so this of course is close to home, to help out other students like me, and also to help out the school! Ever since moving here to Karakura, the school of course has been a big part of my life so .. yeah it's just important to me really." What interests you the most about student council?: "I think the atmosphere and community aspect. I think being able to meet some fellow people who share the same goal as me, become part of a group that is accepting and also fun. I think acting as a collective too, working together just sounds like a good time. So yeah .. the people really, and also being dependable too. Like imagine people saying 'Oh yeah get Harry to do that, he's good at that stuff' ya know?" He'd chuckle a bit. "Yeah that'll be cool" What could you contribute to make the school a safe and fun environment?: "A safe and fun environment? Well fun I guess I want to be ... well just nice to people. Like if someone's just misbehaving or being disruptive, I want to treat people with respect, be mature and not just throw out detentions and stuff. I think that way people feel less forced to behave and more like they want to behave out of respect you know? That'll just make things better for everyone and more enjoyable. Oh and another thing too, it sounds like you guys are responsible for a few events around school, so that of course is a very fun thing to do! And I'd be more than happy to help out with all that stuff too!" |
