Describe your activity on the server:
On a scale of 1-10, I would love to consider myself around a 7 or an 8. During the summer my activity definitely reached its peak, but with classes having started back up, it’s definitely dwindled down a bit. I’m certainly not inactive though, on any given day I can manage anywhere from 2-8 hours. . It really just depends on what I have going on that day!

Above is my general week-long schedule. I do want to note that my free time listed isn’t set in stone; I will not always be online during these hours. Life happens, plans pop up, and, sometimes, I just want to do other things. But, these are the hours you can typically find me online. Obviously, inactivity logs may be submitted should I need them, and any changes to my schedule will be brought up with the faction lead.

Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you will be demoted?:
Of course! You need active shopkeepers that complete their quota – I completely understand!

What shop are you applying for?:
I’m applying for any open restaurant spot! My preferred location would be somewhere in either the business or shopping districts, but I’m fine with any space currently open or created.

Whatever the case, I’ll be re/naming the shop to ‘Daini no ie’.

Why do you want to become a Shopkeeper?:
In short, the Shopkeeper role is the one role I’ve taken the most interest in within the server; the jobs, duties, and responsibilities within the role are entirely unique, and completely different from most other jobs.

But, we don’t want a simple or short answer, do we?

Outside of the many school factions, because everybody interacts with them, the shopkeeper faction was the very first faction I’d ever properly interacted with. As a new player I would constantly see a variety of shops opening and made it a personal goal to visit as many as I could. Whether that was to simply bask in the environment of the shop, or to hunt shop customs down for my collection.

Once I’d given myself a month or two to adjust to the server, I began to apply to a few shops – and to my luck, got accepted! I split my time between restaurants and accessory shops alike, with the main goal being to make a crap ton of money. Which happened, believe me, but I also began to develop a different goal as I worked.

Now, I want to focus on one shop in particular. Yes, I’ve worked in a variety of them and enjoyed my time in each, but one stood out far more than the rest.

For the sake of privacy, I won’t name the shop in full. Within this shop, I’d put in an awful lot of work; up the ranks I rose, holding the rank of manager by the time the shopkeep had chosen to leave. This is where I think I learned a lot about the faction, of the different duties and jobs needed to run a shop. I helped to manage inventory, trained rounds of employees, opened and supervised when the owner couldn’t… A lot was learned. And don’t even get me started on the employees within the shop! Throughout my time working, everybody proved to be incredibly patient and understanding – amazing people, truly.

Within this shop, my admiration for the faction blossomed, and my interest grew.

But not just for the easy and fun parts, no, I want to experience the challenges full-force, too. Being a shopkeeper, in itself, isn’t an easy task; there’s plenty you have to manage, people to keep in line, a certain focus you have to have… But those are things I look forward to experiencing. I want the challenge, the chaos! I want the knowledge that I have to work hard and yet still find it in myself to have fun. Something I think I can do.

I have two previous applications for this faction, both of which were denied. I’ve reached out, learned how to improve, and implemented things I’ve learned from previous rounds. If you go back and read my previous applications, most things still stand: I’m excited, I want to experience shops from the shopkeep perspective, I want to offer the server a type of roleplay we haven’t had for a while. This time, I hope it sticks.

What do you plan to do with your shop, and what makes it unique?:
Karakura is lacking – three words I said on a previous application, and three words that are still completely accurate. As we all know, Karakura is located off the coast of Japan. . And yet, despite the fact that Karakura is a Japanese island, we don’t have anything traditional! Nothing native to the culture, nothing important to the country. . Okay, sure, we have the Shrine and various landmarks around the town that are traditional. But that’s not what I’m on about here – I’m on about traditional restaurants! This is a shop application, no?

So, you may be asking yourself, “Well, Bee, if you have such a problem with it, how do you plan to remedy it?: Easy: I plan to open up a traditional, Japanese tea shop.

Throughout Japan’s many provinces, you’re bound to come across a tea shop or two. They’re important to the overall culture, and have been around for quite some time. And yet, Karakura doesn’t have one – the one we had went up on the application market ages ago. But it’s not enough to just up and open one, right? While a tea shop is unique in itself; what do I plan to do to make it just pop?

✿. Roleplay
In most shops, money is the main factor that people crave. They want the thrill of making money, and the thrill of being rich on the server. Not me! Within my shop, I plan to value roleplay far more than anything else. SRP is a roleplay server, is it not? The role of a shopkeeper has so much roleplay potential, and I plan to harness as much of that as I can.

I want the vibes of my shop to be as follows: warm, cozy, homey. I plan to build a shop that people come to to roleplay, with an atmosphere that encourages people to stop in and stay a while.

Outside of that, I’ve toyed around with the idea of unique roleplay experiences. In most tea shops IRL, there’s a ceremony when it comes to serving the tea. This is something I think would be interesting to add! Those I hire will be trained and versed in this sort of thing, alongside other different experiences. Those that work at our singles’ bar will be expected to roleplay with customers, and do mundane tasks around the bar. Those that serve people in booths will be expected to roleplay with customers, and detail out handing over orders. That sort of thing!

Special events I do will also add unique roleplay experiences. . But we’ll get more into that later!

✿. Music
I spoke about the atmosphere I want to foster, but how do I plan to achieve it? Outside of builds, I plan to put a watch2gether together for each opening. I’ve already begun to compile songs in a playlist to play; most will be instrumentals, though some lo-fi or traditional songs may be incorporated, too.

✿. Uniforms
While the idea certainly isn’t unique to my shop, I do plan to enforce an employee-only uniform. My planned uniforms are included in the image below.

3.png

Featured are two kimonos, one masculine and one feminine. The feminine kimono is green with a floral print at the bottom, a tan obi, and a white obijime. The masculine kimono is similar, being green with a floral print, but features a lower, tan obi, and a white haori.

✿. Events
Why not take my shop one step further and do special events every so often? They won’t be anything crazy, just something fun to switch things up every now and then; too many repetitive openings gets boring!

  • Traditional Attire Day: While this idea speaks for itself, I will explain it. Should I plan to do this event during an opening, customers will be invited to wear some sort of attire traditional to their culture, and receive a certain discount off their order. This offers the community a chance to wear something they may not normally wear, and to show off their culture.
  • Holidays: Holidays are something I would love to do something special for! Whether that be traditional holidays we celebrate nearly around the globe, or smaller, niche holidays that may be celebrated here, I plan to do something special. I may offer a certain discount during a certain holiday day, or offer a discount to those that show their love for something during a national day.

What will your shop look like?:
As stated earlier on, I plan to re/name my shop ‘Daini no ie,’ which roughly translates to ‘Second Home.’ The goal for my shop is to maintain that vibe/design of a traditional tea shop, and for the shop itself to have a homey, welcoming sort of vibe. Something that encourages those who visit to stay a while, and soak in the atmosphere and experience of my shop. A place people want to stay and RP in.

That being said. .

What kind of adverts will you use?:
Well, I’m so glad you asked – no shop here on SRP is complete without its adverts! Below are a couple examples of adverts I may use, both for normal days and events.

  • [ADVERT] Greetings, Karakura! Daini no ie is holding its GRAND OPENING! Stop on in for a delicious cup of tea, or a sweet treat off our menu. [X, Z]
  • [ADVERT] Daini no ie is now OPEN! Hungry for an after school snack? We’ve got a variety of treats on our menu, and plenty of coffee and tea to go around. [X, Z]
  • [ADVERT] Guess what? Daini no ie is now OPEN, and offering a 10% discount to those who come dressed in something traditional! Whether it be a kimono or hanbok, come showcase your love for your culture. [X, Z]
  • [ADVERT] In honor of the autumn equinox, Daini no ie is offering a 10% discount to everybody who stops in today. Grab a delicious cup of tea or a scrumptious treat, and savor the start of autumn. [X, Z]
  • [ADVERT] Happy Greenery Day, Karakura! In honor of Daini no ie’s love of plants, we’re offering a 10% discount to those who come to show their own love of all things green. Dress up, bring in a plant, or find some other way to celebrate Greenery Day! [X, Z]

What will you sell in your shop?:
Ideally, I want a menu that reflects my shop idea described above. I understand that a few items on the list below vary from what would normally be sold in a traditional tea shop, but as of current, we’re kind of lacking in a tea shop-y variety…

✿. DRINKS
Green Tea - ¥3,000
Sakura Tea - ¥3,500
‘Cub’accino - ¥4,000
Totoro’s Latte - ¥4,000

Pink Boba - ¥5,000
Water Bottle - ¥1,000
Milk Carton - ¥1,000

✿. ALCOHOL

Shochu - ¥10,000

✿. FOOD
Mochi Icecream - ¥3,000
Checkerboard Cookie - ¥1,000
Dango Stick - ¥3,000
Bento Box - ¥6,000
Sushi Box - ¥6,000
Onigiri - ¥2,000

✿. POTENTIAL CUSTOMS
Kombucha
Cha-Sen
Hojicha Cup
White Tea Cup
Flavored Tea Cup

Upon my acceptance, I plan to look at the list of public items shopkeepers are permitted. My menu may change depending on my findings!

How many employees do you plan to have?:
I plan for my roster to look as follows:

Owner: bmblxbee [1/1]
This is the role I would be filling, should Daini no ie become a reality. The Owner is, quite frankly, the most important role within a shop. I won’t bore the readers with every single task the owner gets to do, but it combines all

Manager: [0/2]
A role below the owner, but with more authority than a regular employee. The two individuals that find themselves within this role will have the following duties:

  • Assisting in application review
  • Assisting in training; taking place of the owner when they’re unavailable
  • Supervising shifts and ensuring things run smoothly

At the time of this application, both positions remain open. While I have people in mind to fill the slots, I do want to offer myself time to make sure I select the perfect people for the role.

Employee: [0/10]
An essential role of any shop; this is the role that has the most direct interaction with customers, and that builds the body of the shop itself. But, what specifically will my employees be doing? Their duties will be as follows:

  • Greet and seat customers as they enter
  • Serve the customers THEY seat in booths; those bartending will serve those at the bar
  • Roleplay: they will be expected to roleplay out serving foods/drinks, serving tea, mundane tasks, etc.
  • Uphold store rules and expectations; if assistance is needed, a manager/shopkeep will assist
While it isn’t entirely important to mention here, I will add that, in my shop’s discord, there will be an employee sub-type labeled ‘Trial Employee.’ This will consist of any freshly hired employees, and ensure that they have an eye kept on them, and make training easier.

How do you plan to hire your employees?:
Throughout my time on SRP, I’ve had the opportunity to interact with a variety of shops, and witness many different application waves. Each shop does the hiring process a little bit differently! So, how do I plan to do this?

  • Applications: For the first part of my hiring process, I plan to do some form of application. They’ll likely be done through Google Forms or the Tickets bot on discord, whichever ends up being easiest in the long-run. The application itself will be split into two parts: an IC portion and an OOC portion. For the OOC portion, I’ll ask questions like the following: IGN, discord tag, timezone server activity, how many shops a player is currently in, and OOC motivations for the application. Nothing too personal. As for the IC portion, I’ll ask questions like the following: RPname, IC age, phone number, IC motivations, what a character can bring to the job, strengths, weaknesses, and IC expectations. Anything I find relevant to the character a person is applying with.
  • Interviews: For the second part of hiring, I’d love to do some form of interview! While they may be a bit difficult to schedule, I do think they’re important to have as an RP-based restaurant. Interviews offer players a chance to participate in some interesting RP, and have the opportunity to show off their character and IC personality. Interviews will take place AFTER applications: after the application deadline, my managers and I will review the applications, and determine which ones we’d like to bring to the interview stage. Those that, for lack of a better term, ‘pass’ the interviews will be accepted as an employee.

What rules will employees follow?:
Like all shops, my employees will have a set of rules to follow. This ensures that their customer service is at its peak, and that my shop doesn’t face any lawsuits…!

So, what rules will I have?

  • #1. RESPECT!: All employees are expected to treat both eachother AND customers with respect. Got some long-lived beef with somebody? Cool! Keep it OUTSIDE of my shop… Respect goes both ways, though; service can be refused if a customer is being RUDE!
  • #2. STEALING!: We have a zero tolerance policy for people who steal here at Daini no ie… If an employee is caught stealing from our stocks, they may be FIRED! Do you think a coworker’s stealin’? Tell Nami… Your report will remain anonymous.
  • #3. REPUTATION!: While background checks WILL be done onj applicants, all employees MUST maintain a good reputation whilst employed. If an employee is arrested, or develops a bad record, they might be fired.
  • #4. ACTIVITY!: Upon your acceptance, you gotta keep yourself active! While the higher-up team understands that life happens, if you fail to show up to a minimum of TWO shifts per month without a valid inactivity notice, you’ll get the BOOT! Don’t want a strike/the boot? Put in a log!
  • #5. BEHAVIOR!: Here in Karakura, common sense isn’t very common. It’s as simple as this: BEHAVE! Don’t be runnin’ around Nami’s shop like a fool, and don’t be insensitive.

Obviously, this won’t be all of them. But it’s a good start.

One Fun Fact:
“ Let’s see… Oh! I did volleyball in secondary school. Don’t ask me to play now, though. I think I’d break something…”

Backstory:
“ It may come as a shock, but owning a small business wasn’t actually what I’d planned during my long(sh) life…

My childhood doesn’t really need touched on, I don’t think – it was fine, we survived, that’s that. University is where my life actually gets interesting … See, I’d originally gone for a Journalism major; it’d been my lifelong dream job, and my passion. I went through my university years, scored my dream job at a magazine company in Tokyo, and lived my life!

Ah… I got rather far, didn’t I? Anybody close to me knows that. But when I heard my grandmother was going into retirement, I had a bit of a change of heart. Obaasan had owned this little tea shop for years – I mean, she and her husband had opened it up before my own mother was born, so… Decades. I practically grew up in the place, most of my childhood memories were formed there. Working the floor, doing my homework, chasing away those pesky alley rats… It was a cute little shop. In our family for ages, clearly. But she’s retired now, and there’s nobody left to remember the legacy the place has.

Well, there wasn’t. Karakura’s a cute town, and while I think it has a bit of a crime problem, it’s a decent enough place to settle, no? My grandmother and family legacy is what brings me here today, sending this little application in to the town’s shop-coord. Perhaps Obaasan’s legacy will live on, no? “
