[Grade 12] Reiji Kagami
[Grade 12] Ameno Kagami

Why are Teachers so important to SchoolRP?:
Teachers on SRP are important if not essential for many reasons as they play many roles from inside the classroom to the entire school as a whole. To start off, these teachers are there to not only teach their respected subject, but also teaching them certain skills to do well in life, but most significantly to create a new spark of passion for their students. In out of character perspective, it would encourage the player to apply for certain languages or joining a faction whether it’s reporter, doctor, government or teacher/Professor. In addition they also serve as legal custodians for the students. They set their priorities on not only educating their students but also making sure the students are well behaved and giving disciplinary actions towards students who break the rules on school grounds. The teachers also make sure their students stay safe while on school grounds, as the student’s safety will be their number one priority, and making sure bullying stays at an absolute minimum. Without teachers, the school will fall under absolute pandemonium and anarchy with students having no sense of discipline and direction in life.

Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you may lose your role?:
Yes

Do you agree to undergo teacher training if your application is successful?:
Yes

In-Character Section

What's your character's full name?:
"Reiji Kagami"

What is your character's nationality?:
"fully Japanese"

What is your preferred subject to teach?:
"Science specifically in the Physics branch"

Describe your character:
Appearance
Standing at 27 years old, visually, Reiji has long dark brown hair that goes down onto his shoulders, in which he would either put up as a ponytail or tucked into his hat or scarf. Reiji also stands at 5'10 and slim for a guy despite weighting 136 lb, which he’s normally insecure about, as he’ll normally wear long and heavy clothing, no matter the season. On close up, Reiji has complete heterochromia on his left eye, being a darker green on his left eye and an ocean blue on the right, and it becomes more visible when he wears glasses.

Casual Attire <-------------------------------->Teacher Attire

Uniqueness
One noticeable trope about Reiji is a workaholic. He would first pick up on this trait back when he first moved to Karakura and he would normally be seen at the library studying or doing homework. This is also due to his old job on mainland Tokyo which gives him no time to do his school work while he’s out of town so he makes the most out of his time studying as he knows he doesn't have the time to take a step back. Even after college, he would sometimes take time off his own freetime to complete everything that needs to be done at his middle school job, whether it’s grading assignments, preparing his lessons for several days, or making his own assignments. Some people who first meet Reiji and even his own peers find it a bit intimidating how much he works, which Reiji himself does his best to tone down his work load.

Personality
If there’s one thing that defines Reiji is that he's a passionate individual while also being very logical. One the outside people normally see him as the latter, being this very smart and socially closed off person who also works a lot. Hence why his old classmates and colleagues find him intimidating. But on the inside, he’s just someone who’s very passionate with what he does and would go all out with his work no matter the stress it causes him. And to those who’ve known him for a long time, he’s not just a very passionate and hardworking person. To them, he’s a kind and compassionate person, who knows his boundaries, and would always put others before himself. Whether it’s a friend, colleague or one of his students. People who recently knew him would normally relate Reiji’s soft spoken nature to his calm and logical side, but those who knew him for a while would also say he’s soft spoken because he’s a genuinely nice person.

Future plans
Having to move a lot throughout his life, he would decide to stay in Karakura, not only to be there for work opportunities, but to also be there for his sister Ameno and if he were to ever get married and have a child, then he would also want to look after them. As for the time being he would be looking after his younger sister who'll not only be attending high school but college at Karakura. But when the day comes when he finally has a child, then he would have them attend the same school. He believes that attending Karakura high school would enable his future child to have the necessary skills you wouldn't get while in a Tokyo or Hokkaido school district. Where as Reiji himself has developed certain life skills he's gotten while in Karakura.

Background (Optional)

Pre Karakura
Before stepping foot in Karakura, Reiji was born in Sapporo, the southernmost and largest city in Hokkaido Japan. Growing up he and his sister Ameno Kagami were expected to become as successful as his parents, with his father being a civil engineer and his mother being a locally known freelance writer, publishing several popular books local to Sapporo. Where there’s strict parents also comes forth huge expectations to do well in school, but to Reiji all he wanted was to live life without stress, not wanting to go beyond but rather do enough to live humbly and enjoy the things he does. Due to this mindset, Reiji’s grades would be within the A-B range; scoring overall above his peers. This strict policy of his parents eventually made him rebellious as he would come home after curfew despite the colder climate, and would hang out with friends more than seen studying. However the breaking point of Reiji’s and his parents' relationship would be when Reiji would be into a relationship with a girl in his school. Due to how strict Reiji’s parents are, being in a relationship could ruin the chance of attending a good school. Aware of that fact, Reiji kept his relationship with his girl a secret from his parents for 2 years until one fateful accident. One day Reiji and his girlfriend Akane had a bad argument and by impulse Reiji offended Akane which caused her to run away from him. On that same day, Akane would get into a car accident, passing away from the trauma, and leaving Reiji emotionally scarred. Word of Akane’s suicide eventually made it to Reiji’s parents where instead of berating him like they’d normally do, Instead they told him to pack up his things and move out. Even though his father no longer wanted anything to do with Reiji, his mother suggested he move to Karakura as it’ll give him a chance to start a new leaf.

In Karakura
In Karakura, Reiji had a hard time fitting in as he knew no one and the fact he’s in grade 10 when he first moved made it much harder for him to fit in with a particular group. His heavy usage of Hokkaido dialect and habit of always wearing heavy winter clothing in the hot tropical Karakura would make him an outcast amongst rejects. Everyday he would be picked on verbally and physically for the way he's dressed and what little social time he gets to have would be shut down due to his side job as an actor recommended to him by Alice Kagami (Reiji’s Mother). Reiji originally didn't like his job as an actor and was forced to do it because he has no other work he can do in the city. Not being from Karakura Reiji also has a hard time being accustomed to the traditions as he would stick out like a sore thumb for bullying with one occasion he nearly died while in the sewers by himself. Reiji’s new life in Karakura then became a wakeup call for him to work hard both in school and in the studio in order to leave the island. Overtime life slowly became more bearable for Reiji as he would finish his contract with the studio and made friends with people who experienced their own hurdles in life. As for academics, Reiji would begin to take his education seriously and go above and beyond. All of his hard work paid off, getting accepted and enrolling into The University Of Tokyo alongside making enough money to pay off his tuition while also having some money left to spare. While in University, Reiji Kagami would work just as hard to earn his Bachelors in Physics and a minor in performance arts.

College Life
During his time in college he would have yet another new leaf in his favor, but to him the most important thing was he doesn't have to return to Karakura. But even then the problems of Karakura would still return to haunt him even while in Tokyo. His sister Ameno Kagami, would be at her worst state when it comes to her mental health to the point it would impact her physically. Additionally she would also have put herself in situations which jeopardizes her own safety and Reiji would be forced to visit her from time to time. fortunately she would improve in her health, but would later be met with another entire different problem. Reiji would become more stress from his acting job, that was lead by a different leading director who would not only treat his co workers badly but would also become physical with them. Whenever people make a mistake he would instantly cut and scold his employees to either get it right or they'll be replaced. This would go on for a month and people would grow tired of him. No longer wanting to deal with the director's antics, many people end up leaving their positions including Reiji himself as he would normally earn the sharp end of the stick. After that significant decision, Reiji would begin to have second thoughts about his career path. Originally he wanted to major in performance arts due to his experiences in the industry, but after that incident it left him with a really bad taste in which made him have a reason to not like acting to begin with. Therefore Reiji would dive into a backup major he would go into, that being Physics. For the longest time Reiji had a deep passion for physics more so then acting, sometimes he would use certain concepts in gaming to give him a lead, or just giving him something to quell his curiosity. Regardless he knew physics was something he should major it and has no regrets switching majors. And just so he doesn't put his credits to waste, he would barely have enough credits to for it to be a minor for performance arts. Despite it being something he liked, Reiji would underestimate the problems that'll arise once he switches majors.

Returning to Karakura
After graduation, a new set of problems arose for him. At the time Reiji worked at a space agency in Tokyo being the same agency he did his internship but due to budget cuts, he was laid off along with many others. As for the many other companies he tried applying for also rejected him, and he didn't want to go back into acting as it took a toll on his mental health. All of these circumstances left him no other choice to go back to Karakura for employment. For the longest time, he never really liked the place, and simply leaving the city was enough motivation for him to leave. However he’s back once more to see if he could find luck at jobs in the area along with looking after his younger sister Ameno Kagami who’s attending Karakura High School. But even then fate had other plans for Reiji as he was faced with more rejections for jobs that accepted his degree, to the point where all the built up anger and frustrations began to toll on his mental health. These sequences of rejections and having to look after his sister outside of work changed him from being a confident and compassionate person, to a irritable shut in with a broken spirit.

Redemption:
Not wanting to drag people more into his problems, he would move back to Sapporo without telling anyone except for his close friend Kaito Akiyama (A friend from both the acting agency and in university) and his girlfriend at the time Yuuka. Disheartened by his random change of heart, she ended up going along with Reiji to his dismay. From there he would take work as a high school science teacher near his area and the same one he went to before moving to Karakura. From there he would develop life skills related to education along with meeting up with familiar faces. But most importantly he would make enough money to go back to University, attending Hokkaido University to get his PHD in physics using the money he made as a teacher and his savings from acting. But even after getting his PHD, he still stuck with education as he would still be reminded of his darkest days of unemployment, as he would remain at his job as a high school science teacher scared that if he quits now he wont find any other job. However his now fiancé Yuuka, encouraged Reiji to go back to Karakura for round 2 and apply to become a teacher at Karakura. She believes that with his higher education along with his experiences in education, Yuuka has very high hopes for Reiji and is willing to go along with him to Karakura to do the same.

What is your character's outlook on students and co-workers?:
Having worked in education before coming back to Karakura, he would grow to have a new sense of responsibility towards his students. Reiji really cares about his students and really wants to ignite any kind of passion they could develop while in school. And because he wants the best for his students he would sometimes take hours out of his own time to help his students out whether it’s related to course material or to help ignite a passion related to his specialties. Additionally having been in a rough time in Karakura during his high school days, he’s also more sympathetic towards his students who’re having their own struggles outside of school. Thus he would extend the deadline on certain assignments or in some cases exempting it. In general Reiji would treat his students with the same levels of respect that they treat him.

When it comes to his colleagues, Reiji has a lot of respect for them. He understands that being a teacher can be a very stressful yet rewarding jobs and is aware of the amount of work needed in education is very high. Because of this Reiji tends to be more helpful towards his fellow teachers, whether it's to sub in or assist in a class. Regardless Reiji still treats his colleagues with the same level of respect as they would give to him. But one thing that is different with how he perceive his fellow teachers is maturity. Because every teacher in the high school are 25+ he would be way more civil and formal towards them versus the way he acts towards his students. He not only wants to make a good example towards his students but also towards his fellow colleagues who'll be working with him in the high school.

What is your character's motivation for teaching?:
Reiji has many motives in working as a teacher. Back in his university years, the only real time he could hang out with friends was when he would be helping out with studying and tutoring. Even though it was something he originally didn’t think too much about. After he’s been laid off from his old corporate job in Tokyo, he would resort to teaching math and physics at his old middle school in Sapporo. Not only to make money and later get his PHD but to also relive a part of his past that was significant to him. Having worked in education for some time went from a way to be praised by his peers in university to a job he would begin to become passionate about. And sometimes he would try to act a bit more casual towards his students to make himself easier for his students to talk to him. Additionally, he’s also aware that in the future if he and his fiancé were to ever have a child, he would want them to attend school in Karakura, and is motivated to be there for his future child’s school life from middle school to college. He wants to be there for his future child which is something he never had while attending school in Karakura and Tokyo. Because this would be something that would happen in the future as of now he would want to be a teacher so he could get closer to his sister Ameno, throughout her own high school and college life.

Roleplay Scenarios

A student in class is struggling to understand the content, what would your character do?:
Reiji understands and is completely aware that the subject he specializes in being physics, tends to have a bad reputation of being either a difficult or overall boring subject. Because of this, if he ever finds one of his students struggling to understand the course material, he will do his best to take extra time making sure they understood the topic. He would say something along the lines of "You seem to be having some trouble, would you like me to go over the concept again?". And in some cases he would also provide his students an optional packet which he made himself and would let them either work on them off their mean time or have them go over the problems with Reiji himself, guiding them. To students who asked him for extra help, Reiji would say amongst the lines of "Thank you for asking, what would you like to go over at this time? Perhaps you would like a packet for any extra problems?". In his eyes no one should be left behind and would want all his students to not only pass the class but thrive in general not only in his class but in general within their school life.

A student is continuously being disruptive in class, talking out of turn, and making jokes with classmates. What would your character do?:
One of Reiji’s pet peeves is when people disrupt class or are distracted through any means. Whether it’s socializing with others while he’s teaching or going on their phones without it being on silent, many of these actions can slow down class, and cause more people to be distracted. Therefore whenever anyone is being disruptive or is distracted off of other things, he would warn them asking them to pay attention to class and not to talk while he’s talking. Thus he’ll say something along the lines of “In this class we’re here to learn not to goof around and be on your phones. So I suggest we all pay attention to class and keep side conversation to a minimum.”. If the student continues to be disruptive, he warns them again, as a final warning. After that final warning, he’ll give them a detention slip. “I’m sorry but I'll be seeing you during detention at 3:00, I was hoping this doesn't happen but you’ve gotten to this point.”

Provide at least 2 interactive class ideas related to your preferred subject:
1. Egg drop:
This class revolves around the students not only learning, but also applying the unit of Kinetic and Potential energy. And a fun way to apply this concept is by doing the classic egg drop challenge. What the students would do first is build a vessel which would house a raw egg and in theory protect it. First the students will be given an assignment in which they would describe the design they want to use for their egg drop project, from the shape of the vessel to the materials used to make it. On the second half the students would actually begin construction of their vessel in which would house the egg and in theory protects it from the Earth's Gravitational potential Energy.

2. Interactive Newton's law:
Rather than demonstrating all instances of Newton's law, during lectures, the students themselves get the opportunity to come up to the front as the students will help Reiji with performing certain tasks. As the volunteering student goes up to do the action, the students watching would also

  • Law Of Inertia: The volunteering student would be a tablecloth over a desk and the student who’s been called out would try and yank the table cloth without moving anything on top of it (Being a textbook and a pencil cup). If the student is successful the inertia of the book and the cup would keep it on the table without it being tugged off the desk.
  • F = MA: The volunteering student would come up and take a toy car and nudge it across a teacher’s desk. As time moves on more and more weights would be added onto the toy car and taking into consideration the student would be nudging with the same amount of force, the car would slowly cover less distance and require more acceleration to move.
  • Action Reaction/Normal Force: The student who volunteers, would blow up a balloon and attach it onto a straw which is further connected to a string. Once told to let go of the balloon, the balloon would propel itself along the string. The students would learn that the action is the air escaping from the balloon while the reaction is the balloon being propelled using the straw as a guide.
