What position are you applying for (Maiden or Priest?
Priest

What is your motivation for applying?
While I do enjoy spending time at the shrine OOCly, it's mostly about driving my character's development further forwards. I want to see her come to terms with herself, others and find a place in Karakura, that she can be proud about. While I did receive encouragement from others, it's mostly about my character's story, and future potential characters. Nonetheless I also want to involve myself with others, be it within the faction itself, or outsiders visting the shrine. And I have too much freetime.

What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?
Shintoism, also known as Shinto, is a religion that originated in Japan. It involves worshipping kami, which are like spirits or deities that influence various aspects of the world. Unlike other religions, it doesn't have any strict doctrines or holy books. It is often seen as a way of life and tradition, while being often practized alongside Buddhism. Important factors are rituals, purification, festivals and a balance between nature and the spiritual world. Monasteries, shrines and temples are often known as tourist hotspots, but they're also popular with the local people. They're sacred grounds, reserved for tradition and worship. However I don't really know much about how a shrine is set up inside, how the rituals and rites are practised, or what the spiritual world is all about. But I'm definitely curious and eager to learn more.

Backstory
Her early childhood was pretty normal, really. She was born to her mother, Ume, in a town in Russia she didn't know, but at least her family was pretty well off. She was one of many children the family had. There was a lot of competition and things were sometimes a bit messy, but when she was young and 'innocent', life was really good. But everything changed after she lost her memories. Around that time, a lot of the family moved to Karakura. But everything changed after she lost her memories. It was around that time a big part of the family moved to Karakura.

As she got older, she became more aggressive towards others. She saw other people as inferior, as less than human, and this caused her a lot of problems. This led to her often getting beaten up, and even being resented and excluded by her family. She got violent towards her own family and innocent people. It was a self-destructive behaviour that she didn't realize at first. After pushing her luck several times, she received multiple ultimatums from her family, which made her tone down and behave better, for a short period of time. However it did not stop her from causing trouble. resulting in her being tortured and having her left pinky chopped off. This event shocked Daria greatly, causing her to become more reserved. She did keep her violent, hotheaded antics, but she learned to keep them in check. It was only after months in a cold jail cell for crimes she did not want to disclose to others, that something changed inside her. The realization that something was wrong with her and not the others was, somehow a shock to her.

It was then that she found the shrine, which made her feel calm. It helped her to keep herself under control because there were no things that would make her lose her temper. It was also the first place outside of her family that she showed respect to, mostly because she was afraid of going back to her old self and possibly getting even worse. She had several relationships at that time. One of them made her think she could care about someone, which she didn't think was possible. But this relationship didn't work out either. This made her feel empty, so she left Karakura for a while.

During this time she began to enroll at Kokugakuin University to acquire a Bachelor of Arts in Shinto Studies. It was a bit of a spontaneous decision, based on her interest and time she spent at the shrine. Her life in Tokyo at the time was pretty quiet. She kept to herself, not wanting to cause issues. After barely passing the necessary exams and getting the certificates, she returned to Karakura, wondering if life would be any different after a few years. She enrolled at Karakura College for a course with the lowest requirements, not taking it seriously. She just needed time to find herself.
It was also then when she got encouragement from others to apply to the shrine, because of how often she was there. But she wasn't sure about herself or her issues with other people, so she hesitated at first. But she was encouraged to go for it in the end, and ended up filling out an application. She didn't really care if she got in or not, it was just one of many options in life and she had plenty of other options if she didn't get in. Plus, the people she cared about were not going to disappear, if she didn't get in.

CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE / SITUATIONS

How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?
Daria is reserved around people she doesn't know well, however has a tendency to drop comments, often harsh ones. Her pride makes it difficult for her to approach others for advice or general conversation. However, she would always be willing to assist guests and other staff with any questions and/or requests they may have. Not only because it feeds her pride, but also because it is one of her responsibilities. In quieter hours, she'd be tending to the grounds or other facilities, perhaps taking a walk in the woods or simply meditating. She enjoys the scenery and atmosphere and is willing to take care of her new home.

You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?
Although she has a way of dealing with things using force and negative, harsh comments. In recent years, however, she has become more reserved, showing more respect for those around her. Having spent many days at the Shrine, she had broken her fair share of rules, but rarely did the same thing twice, showing respect for the place that meant so much to her. Therefore she'd react accordingly, with a step by step basis.

Innerly she would judge the troublemaker, laying a sharp, yet reserved gaze upon them, as she calls out.
Her words would be something along the lines of [Insert Sigh] "May you please remove yourself from the roof? This is sacred ground, nor can we guarantee you won't come crashing through it." While speaking politely, a certain edge would remain in her voice, disdain. If they don't comply, she would very well get them down herself, issueing a stern warning. Depending on how often they disrespected the grounds in a certain amount of time, or what rules they've broken, she'd ban- blacklist them for a period of time, while also reminding them of the existence of the KPD. Afterwards she would head to the dojo to let off some steam, because she still has certain anger issues.

Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?
The shrine always has been a place of peace for Daria. It was a refuge during difficult times for her, away from all the troubles in her life. While the atmosphere and scenery is calming and beautiful, so are the people there. Be it guests or staff, they are always eager to talk, listen and share advice, which helped her greatly. Over time it became her second home, a home which she cherishes and wishes to protect. She wishes to be even closer to the place that has drawn her close. She wishes to give back to this place and its people in some way or another. For Daria Shintoism is less about belief and more about a way of life and tradition. Something she hopes will help her to rediscover herself and help her with the many flaws she has. Her interests relies mostly in self-improvement and a lingering feeling to give back to the place and people that helped her through difficult times.

What are the core values of your character?
Pride - A double edged sword, recognized by many as one of the seven deadly sins. On the one side it represents; Self-Respect, Origin, Accomplishments. While on the other side it represents; Egoism, Arrogance.

Daria takes pride in herself - The long way she has come to be the person the is today. Self-Respect has been deeply anchored itself into her very being, but it also gave birth to a sense of arrogance, a form of egoism. Her inability to give way to other people's opinions and her flaws are beginning to corrupt pride as one of her core values. She began questioning a lot about herself and the life she has lived. Maybe it is due time to rediscover herself and the pride she seemed to represent. Possibly it will give way to a new core value one day - Humility.

Loyalty - Deeply intertwined with the likes of pride and honor, a value many strive for and want in others.

Loyalty was not always a value of importance to Daria. It was only when she was all alone; no friends, no family she could rely on (in her eyes), that she developed a need to keep those important to her close, but also safe. She takes pride in her loyalty towards the people she cherishes, enjoying the feeling of being needed. However few deserve her unwavering loyalty and the sacrifices she is willing to make, which often conflict with her pride.
