The Hair Items: People with these hair types usually have the following. I’ll even add what they are usually used for.

2. Detangle comb - The Godsend for Curly Hair. Unlike the pic, it will keep those curls a the pic will make the hair more poofy !
3 - 4. Rat Tail, Styling Combs - The rat tail makes the parts in the hair NIIICE and Crisp, same with the styling combs but added on features to comb the hair into a certain direction you are trying to go.
5. Edge Brush - Ever wondered how those baby hairs would SLAY? This is the weapon right here yes ma’am yes sir. With a bit of Edge Gel and preparing this weapon for months. Them edges are edgesing
6. Slickback Brush - Hard to explain but with gel this comb makes it easier for the hair to stay down and make it look realll nice.
7. Wide tooth Comb - Used for LOCS! Helps put LOCS into different hairstyles and help it keep form.
Now, time to get the Show started! Stretch your characters arms.. they gonna need it.
the main ingredient moisturizer. You don’t have to type the specific brand in Roleplay, these are here for informational purposes!

I’ll be saying we cause it’s easier for me to explain.
DETANGLE & MOISTURIZING PROCESS
Firstly, we would usually spray detangler, leave-in conditioner, water to make our hair softer. As combing/picking hair straight up dry is absolute torture or honestly psychotic (sorry, I personally cannot). These sprays can make the hair curl up nicely, soft and easy to detangle running a comb through it,
Secondly, We will use moisturizer of choice to the scalp up to the end of the Hair. Putting in a lot is necessary as these hair types usually need more moisture to keep from getting dandruff. Some people like to scrunch the hair up to make it super curly, some people’s hair naturally becomes more curly from the product itself, btw wouldn’t recommend touching anything. Those hands are greasy!
Lastly, This is the perfect moment for a Hairstyle. Here! Choose one (I picked these SPECIFICALLY for srp that will work with bases!)

Get them rubber-bands, prepare for that comb and get to styling. Here’s a couple of videos as well to take inspiration or tutorial from! We would use Gel, to keep the hair in style from frizzing up or making the hair become puffy when it dries.
55min video of natural hairstyles ! (CLICK)
Some will even show you technically a mini tutorial and products they’ve used!
If you choose to keep those beautiful curls down, make sure to carry around a moisturizer spray as some hair will lose that nice curly look once dry.

HAIR CARE
We do NOT wash it all the time, although some do.. usually we don’t. We would wear hair caps to keep our hair from getting wet in the shower. At night, we wear bonnets/durags to keep the hair moisturized and keep it neat if it’s in a style! Satin pillowcases and Bonnets are S+ Tier. (Bonnets & Durags are Gender Neutral!)

And yes we moisturize before bed aswell.
How can hair become damaged?
Heat is not our best friend in the curly hair community.
To get that sleeek straight hair we have to get press downs, with enough carefulness and the right use of heat protection. The hair is perfectly fine, but doing it wrong it can damage the hair
(Had to do a big chop due to heat damage.)
Heat damage after a couple of times straightening the hair can leave it well.. straight forever.. even making the ends break. Losing all the curly hair fun! Sometimes, the heat damage can cause hair not to grow properly and that’s where sadly the big chop happens..
Not properly moisturizing, detangling the hair everyday can cause the hair to fall out! Gotta keep that glorious mane tidy to keep in it, this is real curl baby No touch!

MORE HAIRSTYLES
beautiful LOCS, Braids & Twists.

LOCS are hair that get locked together into a form of hairstyle, there are MANY hairstyles that even go rooted down to different cultures.

Oh lovely braids.. also comes in various hairstyles and keeps the hair together for .. Depending who you are 1-4 weeks or 1 month. No washing! All that product will wash away and the hairstyle will wash away with it!
And lastly.. TWISTS MI AMOUR.. (I love twists)beautiful LOCS, Braids & Twists.

Another style and a PROTECTIVE style. A hairstyle anyone with curls can put up and don’t have to worry about especially with mini twists.
END OF THE LESSON
Of course, play your character how you want. But, if you always wanted the natural hairstyle look and never knew how to actually Roleplay, character design it, etc.. This Guide is for you!
What I will say now should be common sense, but remember these hairstyles/type is a Culture! There are those of you will .. be a bit offense but remember hair does not equal with personality or background! We’re all different just like you are, This is me sharing a bit of my culture to you! As I know MANY of you want to be respectful, and choose to not have characters with these hairstyles/type because not enough of information about it surfacing around. You do not have to Roleplay everything about the hair, it’s completely optional and to be fair i can agree. It’s easier to not to Roleplay about ALL of it :). This is to make it easier, and understand YOU’RE characters hair a lot more, not to full on Roleplay it all the time.
Like I said before, everyone in the curly/kinky hair community is DIFFERENT! This is the basics of how to properly Roleplay/understand this hair in the most simple way.
Thank you for reading and taking the time to indulge.
Lastly..
Happy Black History Month!
