Why are Teachers so important to SchoolRP?:
It's in the name— although the world of Karakura is expansive, SchoolRP is primarily a school-based roleplay server. Teachers are integral to maintaining realism in a setting where students (a majority of characters) spend many hours a day in a school setting. Many students enjoy participating in interesting and creative lessons during school hours. It provides a structured and supportive way for new students to get started with roleplay in a less-intimidating enviromment. Furthermore, teachers are important to maintaining school behavior that is true-to-life through discipline and faculty interactions. No matter how many students there are, a school wouldn't be a school without its cast of teachers.

Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you may lose your role?: Yes, that seems natural
Do you agree to undergo teacher training if your application is successful?: Of course! I would love to

₊˚⊹♡ In-Character Section

What's your character's full name?:
"My name? Himari Kuroda. You may call me Mari if we're close."

What is your character's nationality?:
"I'm Japanese, originally from Yokohama."

What is your preferred subject to teach?:
"Design Technology. My specialty lies in the workshop."

Describe your character:
A piercingly sarcastic temper set Himari apart from many of her colleagues. The woman had the quick wit needed to be considered charming but lacked the effort or desire. Rather than building castles with her words, perfectly placed and intentional, Mari built weapons. She was her own, unique individual and her words were hers to use as she pleased. Bluntness and honesty went hand in hand. However, she never strayed from her values. Himari held her concept of the “moral good” to high regard.

Himari’s willful disposition matched with her exterior. The Japanese woman stood at 5 foot nothing with a notably muscular build from working in the shop. Long, silky, bleach blonde hair cascading down her back— a typical Kuroda. Despite her status as the family’s adopted child, the 28-year-old woman bore the fortune of resembling those biologically related. Siren-like and hazy, Mari’s monolidded eyes were her most prominent facial feature. A delicately-lined mouth, eyebrows, and nose fell into place around them. Her sense of style was simple: modest and monochrome with a preference for dark colors.

Despite her hard outer shell, Mari was an incredibly loyal and sensitive individual towards those she cared about. Her family and those close to her can attest to it. However, the sharp-tongued woman was often afflicted by a haze of social awkwardness which led to her maintaining the same few relationships.

What is your character's outlook on students and co-workers?:
Himari’s opinions on her colleagues are surely a mixed bag. After all, the woman is an acquired taste. Her attitude towards her colleagues stems fully from her opinion of them as individuals. Although Mari is capable of maintaining her professionality in public, she choses those she associates with very selectively.

Himari’s demeanor around students differed from her regular attitude. Despite her age, the 28-year-old had few issues relating to her teenage students. She too held the desires for independence, personal expression, and the occasional instance of rebellion. Hence, for the most part, she took a relaxed method to classroom management. However, with her experience came the knowledge that one had to have some discipline. That was where her blunt nature came into play.

What is your character's motivation for teaching?:
IC: What brought this woman to teach children? It did not seem like an obvious choice for the woman who was more bitter than outwardly welcoming. Despite preferring her saws over humans, Mari genuinely enjoyed working with teenagers.

OOC: As a current senior in high school who hopes to become a teacher, the teaching faction on SRP is the natural fit for me. I have worked in a wide variety of teaching-related jobs available to people my age (camp counselor, tutor, volunteer makerspace teacher, robotics LEGO league team coach... You get the gist.) Although I intend to teach languages, not workshop, teaching on SRP would provide me the opportunity

₊˚⊹♡ Roleplay Scenarios

A student in class is struggling to understand the content, what would your character do?:
Himari scanned the classroom, her eyes landing on the confused face of a student. She slid over to where they were seated. Her introverted self did not want to cause too much noise as to draw unnecessary attention to the student. He was probably embarrassed enough already.

The first action Himari took once arriving at the student’s spot was to begin with a question. “About which part are you confused?” She asked, allowing them time to think and explain. Asking this allowed the student to take control of their own learning. It was good practice for the kid and would serve them well in the future.

Once Mari received an answer, she moved on to the next step: brainstorming. “What are some different ways you think you could solve it?” She provoked the student to throw out ideas. Even the most fantastical of ideas could be useful when making something new.

She listened attentively to the student’s ideas, jotting a few down on a piece of paper in front of them both. “Now, tell me more about these ones,” she spoke, guiding the student towards the answer. From this point, it was quite likely that the student would be able to find the answer on their own terms.

A student is continuously being disruptive in class, talking out of turn, and making jokes with classmates. What would your character do?:
Himari’s sigh was audible throughout the classroom. It was the sort that could make silent due to the sheer annoyance it held. The woman drummed her fingers on the table, giving the students one last chance to quiet themselves before speaking up. Would another chance work? She hated reprimanding students but, at a certain point, it was necessary. “As a reminder, this is a workshop.” The woman rolled her eyes. “It is not a barnyard. Don’t act like animals.”

She paused. Scary teacher mode was fully in action. “This is your last warning. Depending on the strike you're on, I might be seeing you after school. I can assure you neither of us want that. Don’t make it happen.”

Provide at least 2 interactive class ideas related to your preferred subject:
✧˖°. Crappy bots — A competition that’s been around since 2014, Hebocon (or Crappy Bots in English) is a robotics event originating in Japan where untrained civilians build “robots” out of trash or other reused items. Crappiness is rewarded here! Students have a short period of time to assemble cardboard boxes, tape, discarded mechanical toys, and other random trash from Himari’s scrap bin into an inventive creation that will compete in a sumo-style death match against an opposing robot. The first one to knock the other out of the ring wins! (Match results would be decided via a /roll 20.)

✧˖°. Simple machine scavenger hunt — What’s the main cause of student boredom? Being trapped in a classroom, of course! Hence, Himari created an interactive theory lesson where students are grouped into teams and sent off with a notebook to find examples of different simple machines around school. Any team that successfully completes the challenge will be rewarded with food!

✧˖°. Safety is… fun? — First-day safety lectures are always the most boring parts of any workshop class. Someone always ends up not paying attention to the rules and then getting hurt. Himari intends to spice up this lesson by gameifying it! The class will be split up into two teams with each team forming a line. A trivia question regarding shop safety will be called out and the two students at the front will have to race to answer it. Whoever raises their hand first has the chance to answer first. If their answer is incorrect, the chance goes to the other team. If they both fail, the answer will be stated and both students will move to the end of the line, the game continuing on with the next pair and the next question.

✧˖°. Solve that problem! — Brainstorming skills and creativity are IMPERATIVE in the workshop. In order to develop these abilities, Mari developed a fun game that could potentially also be useful to students in their everyday lives. Students form a circle in the middle of the room with one person in the middle. The center person gives an example of an either real-life or fantastical problem that they might be facing. Then, the class goes around stating potential ideas for solutions. The wackiest solution wins a sticker!
