Tutor

In as much detail as possible, describe the employee role you are applying for:

The primary responsibility of a tutor is to conduct one-on-one or small group sessions with students to assist them with their academic needs. They are tasked with identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each student and tailoring their approach to address these specific needs. This involves maintaining a calm and patient demeanor, providing the appropriate learning materials, and ensuring that students comprehend the topics they find challenging. In addition to academic support, tutors also serve as mentors, addressing students' emotional needs. Many students who seek tutoring services struggle with anxiety or lack confidence. To address these issues, tutors adapt their teaching methods and offer reassurance and encouragement to help students overcome their emotional barriers.

I have been portraying a high school student in roleplay scenarios for over a year now, and while there are numerous opportunities for roleplay in this setting, I am seeking a change of environment and pace. I am interested in joining the Employee Faction to take on the role of a Tutor and experience a different aspect of roleplay.

Situations

During a work-shift a student starts cursing at you for being pathetic, how does your character react?:

Contessa would remain calm always keeping a straight and respectful posture as she stood. She’d respond to the student to mind their language, this would be their first warning, she would then quietly and calming talk with the student about how they see her as pathetic and what she may have done to upset them, keeping herself patient and calm. Once an understanding has been shown she’d ask the student to apologize and let them go on their way with no further actions.

However if this situations had escalated and did not remain as calmy, Contessa would remind the student about their language, second warning, and how they should respect others among themselves. Remaining patient, she’d try and ask the student to explain why they feel this way, assuming the situation escalated further she would do no more than hand out a detention slip.

You notice two students are physically fighting in the hallway, – multiple punches have been thrown – how does your character react?:

Contessa would quickly approach the situation before sternly yelling out to the students to separate from each other. Once the situation had calmed down she would check them both for any serious injuries before asking them to follow her into the council room or to a quiet area where they could talk without a crowd, asking for another member of the faculty to assist with this in case things got out of hand. Once in the quiet area, she’d ask each of the students one at a time to explain the situation and why they were fighting, also ensuring there was CCTV in that area that could be checked. Once getting both sides of the story she would give them both a detention slip for fighting and calmly inform them of the reason.

Another school employee is clearly acting inappropriately, doing something very dangerous on the job, how does your character react?:

Firstly Contessa’s immediate concern would be to safeguard any students nearby, she would remove any children from the situation calmy but urgently ensuring they got to a safe area. Contessa would confront the colleague; her approach would be firm but professional. She would voice her concerns directly, pointing out the danger and inappropriate nature of their behaviour. In result of this if the colleague continued to act dangerous and refused to see their mistake, she would inform administration immediately.

When in the employee break room, how does your character act?

Contessa is such a lovely person! In the break room, you can often find her sitting by the window with a book or notepad, taking a few quiet moments to reflect on her past lessons and come up with creative ways to help her students. She's always so thoughtful and observant, picking up on her colleagues' moods without getting involved in gossip. Contessa is always welcoming, offering a warm greeting to everyone. Her own life experiences have given her a deep understanding of hardship, and she's always ready to offer empathy and insight without being intrusive. She might even share her own personal story if she feels it would comfort someone, though she rarely does so unless asked. In the employee break room, Contessa is always there; quiet, calm, and ready to chat when you need it. Her colleagues think she's great at her job, but they also like how kind and wise she is.

Provide us with at least three detailed /me's of your character whilst on your chosen role:

/me
upon gazing at the arrival of the student, Contessa stood up, dusting her clothes off swiftly and with a warm and wide smile, she gave a nod towards said student, parting her mouth to say "Good morning! Here for tutoring, or are there any questions you have overall?" She asked, filled with the thrill of helping one out cause her adrenaline to increase it's level at greater heights. She soon made her way closer to the student, and by crossing her arms over her chest, she awaited for a soon-to-come response.

/me Contessa would've opened the staff room's door, closing it quietly behind her, as a desperate sigh had just escaped her lips. Her head dropped down and her eyes closed shut. After taking a deep breath or two, she opened her eyes once more and made her way to the coffee machine, taking the exact ingredients she had needed for her coffee, she brew it and made sure to take her time with it. Once done, it's pleasant scent ran through Contessa's nostrils. Pleased by her effort, she made an extra just in case anyone would barge in. Had some time at last passed, Contessa finally grasped onto her mug firmly, bringing the warm cup of coffee close to her lips and with a smile, she at last took a sip, only to finally meet her relaxation point reach it's peak. "Mm, nothing to start a day off with some coffee."

/me Walking up to her desk, she’d begin to tidy it up placing everything back where it belongs in a neat and nice-looking pile. Afterwards she’d grab her coat and her handbag from behind her chair before heading for the door.

Backstory

Contessa Caterina Axiotou was born into a noble yet troubled family in Rome, Italy. Her mother, a passionate artist, passed away when Contessa was only six, leaving her with her father, a stern businessman who was emotionally distant and often away. Life in the Axiotou family mansion was lonely, and Contessa spent most of her childhood in solitude, finding solace in books, particularly in stories of foreign lands and great teachers.

When Contessa turned 15, tragedy struck again. Her father, suffering from deep financial and legal troubles, was arrested, and the family’s wealth crumbled. With no immediate relatives willing to take her in, she was placed into the care of a kind Japanese couple who were visiting Italy and took an immediate liking to the shy, intelligent girl. Though it was a difficult decision, Contessa’s father agreed, and soon, she was whisked away to Japan to begin a new life.

Her foster parents, the Yamamotos, were gentle and nurturing. They introduced her to Japanese culture, and Contessa, despite the initial culture shock, fell in love with the country. She learned the language quickly, attended a prestigious school in Karakura, and developed a deep interest in education, determined to one day become a teacher or tutor who could help other children feel less lost than she had.

However, at the age of 22, life took an unexpected turn when Contessa fell in love with a young artist, and soon after, discovered she was pregnant with twins. Her partner, unfortunately, disappeared upon hearing the news, leaving her overwhelmed and heartbroken. The weight of single motherhood at such a young age, especially while still trying to build her career, felt crushing. Torn between her dream of becoming a teacher and providing the best life for her children, Contessa made the painful decision to give her twins up for adoption. She hoped that by doing so, they would have a stable and loving environment—something she felt she couldn't offer at that moment.

The grief of letting her children go was unbearable at first, and for years, it lingered in her heart, but Contessa poured her energy into her work. With relentless determination, she pursued a career in education. She became a tutor, renowned for her ability to connect with students from various backgrounds, using her own life experiences to inspire them. Her empathy, patience, and dedication made her a beloved figure in the education world.

Now in her 40s, Contessa is a successful tutor, known for her deep knowledge and even deeper compassion. Though she occasionally wonders about her twins and how they’re faring, she takes solace in the idea that they’ve been given the best life possible. Contessa remains hopeful that one day, they may cross paths again. Until then, she has dedicated her life to helping other children, guiding them to a future full of possibilities, just as she once dreamed of doing.

In short, I want to join KHS because it represents the ideals I have long aspired to embody: a nurturing space where every child can thrive, no matter their background or challenges. I believe this is where I can truly fulfill my calling as an educator, ensuring that no student feels the isolation and uncertainty I once did.

Motivation for Joining KHS (Character perspective):

KHS offers me the opportunity to be a part of a learning environment that fosters diversity, creativity, and empathy—values I hold close to my heart. I see this school as a place where I can give back, providing students with the guidance and care that I, at one point, so desperately needed. The diversity within the student body mirrors my own journey of adapting to life in Japan, and I know that my experiences will allow me to connect with students who feel like outsiders, helping them feel seen and understood.

Why should you be accepted over the other applicants?:

I know what it feels like to struggle, and this makes me uniquely qualified to support students who face personal or academic hardships. My compassion is genuine, and I’m able to connect with students who need not only a tutor but a mentor who truly understands their struggles.

Im not just applying for a position at KHS im seeking contribution to a school community where I can make an impact on students lives, students who may be searching for guidance, and inspiration.
