Judge Application #1 [Denied]
Tutor Application [Accepted]
Describe your activity on the server:
With college taking up about half of my awake time, I spend the rest on activities I enjoy. SRP is one of those things. I’ve been playing for about 2.5 years on and off, recently coming back a little over a month ago. As for how long my entire roleplay journey has lasted, I started on Minecraft on the PS3 when I was around 8 years old and haven’t seemed to be able to let go since. Having developed multiple characters within the server, I use them to explore the different possible lanes that roleplay offers. Throughout my SRP playtime, I have led and helped lead a handful of families, and I co-founded a gang a while back. All of these roles required a significant amount of my attention, and I treated each with great importance.

If a time range is listed, it means I'm busy within that range. I should be free during times not listed, unless I'm asleep. As this college semester comes to a close, this schedule will soon be inaccurate. I should have most of December free before classes start again for the spring semester. My schedule will change again once those classes start.

APPLICATION INFORMATION
What position are you applying for?:
Judge.
What is your motivation for applying?:
If allowed the opportunity to join the government faction, I’d take the chance to polish my writing skills further than they currently are. SchoolRP has become a little less than just a hobby for me, as I am working through my degree plan for a Bachelor's in English (Writing). This gives me the excuse for the massive amount of hours I’ve invested into the server by saying, “It’s writing practice.” Hopefully, being part of this faction can not only improve my creative writing but also my technical writing abilities, as they could always use more work. Currently, I’m involved in four different D&D campaigns, being the DM of one, which does make my schedule busy; however, I don’t see it as a chore. Instead, I find myself counting the days till next week's session, multiple sessions in my case, because they serve as a time to socialize with friends and escape any anxiety of college. My goal when writing in social settings, whether in D&D or SRP, is not to affect a person’s character, but rather, the player themselves, as that normally leads to much more compelling and attentive roleplay. Upon my return to SRP, I’ve begun to crave more serious roleplay, where my character’s actions have weight, and making tough decisions is a common but accepted obstacle. Not only will serious roleplay improve the writing in my actions and dialogue, but it could also assist in storytelling and potentially open a chapter in the vast lore of Karakura for Naotaka to sit himself within. The reason I chose to apply for the government faction specifically is that I believe it offers themes and topics that interest me most currently in life. The issue of being a servant of the law is that the law itself challenges one to question morals, philosophy, sociology, and political stances. These are all largely wrapped within my studies and storytelling, so this faction understandably had a further impact on me than other factions when judging what I was looking for. A chunk of the friends I hang with in SRP have been in factions for a while now, and it’s shown me just how welcoming this server’s factions are. The government workers that my character has interacted with recently have also been quite open and open-armed; some were more intriguing than expected, however. Hopefully, my character Naotaka can add more dynamics to the town hall environment. He’s a workaholic, partly because I’ve become a bit of one oocly, and he has great plans for making his mark within the government roster. Additionally, I’m looking to make new friends within the server, as I have been around some of the same people for a good majority of my SRP playtime. Being in this faction allows me not only to meet new people in the government faction, but it also serves as an opening to connect with others in separate factions as well.
Do you have an understanding of Karakura’s laws & Constitutional rights?:
Yes, I do.
What are your goals for being in Government Faction?:
My primary goal going in is to carve out a name for myself and earn my place within the faction’s roster. I plan on accomplishing that goal by not only completing quota each month, but by doing more than what is simply required of me, such as working at the front desk past quota completion, assisting the public with legal questions, and providing assistance when needed to the other faction members. After studying the Karakura laws and the citizens’ Constitutional rights, I can see where potential changes could be implemented within those documents, and coming together to make a more just system for the Karakura community would honestly be awesome to participate in. Attending trials is another goal of mine, as they do not happen often, and give the government faction the ability to really show off their abilities. There is much information I am still ignorant of, but with time and assistance, I’m positive I will learn as much as I need to, and hopefully more.
In your own words, describe the different roles of the Government Faction:
Mayor:
Holding the responsibility to represent the public, the mayor is the keystone in keeping not only the town hall but Karakura as a whole united. The mayor manages government staff and can demote, promote, or remove anyone at any time.
Deputy Mayor:
As hand to the mayor, the deputy mayor assists when the mayor can not be present. The deputy mayor plays an essential role within the government faction by additionally overseeing the town hall, whether or not the mayor is around.
Cabinet:
Hold meetings to discuss matters within the government in order to improve the faction as a whole. The cabinet members work as the head of their designated branch. They help train new government workers to get the hang of things and settle into their new position.
Governor:
During the trial, governors can take up one of two roles. The first is the announcer, who introduces the ones involved within the trial at hand, such as the judge, the defendants, the plaintiffs, etc. They’re responsible for calling people up for questioning/hearing. The second role is the documenter, which acts as a sort of scribe, summarizing everything that happened during the trial. The documenter fills out the report of who was involved.
Outside of trials, governors mainly handle public relations and communicate with the public. When at the front desk, they give out IDs to citizens and heed complaints. Also, they are tasked with handling adoptions, officiating marriages, and conducting shop inspections.
Judge:
During the trial, the head judge maintains courtroom order and applies the law when necessary. The judges/jury must attend pre-trials to gather the required information about the case, as well as attend post-trials where the judges/jury will decide the final verdict and possible sentencing for criminal cases.
Outside of trials, the judge handles front desk work, such as handing out IDs, issuing restraining orders, and answering public concerns. Other official duties judges must take on are handling adoptions, officiating marriages, conducting shop inspections, and providing warrants for the police.
Lawyer:
During the trial, lawyers assist their clients by building a reliable case to present to the judge and jury. Typically, their thesis and main direction are presented through their opening statement.
Outside of trials, lawyers work the front desk, hand out IDs, answer public questions, and issue restraining orders. If someone is arrested, they can make an attorney call to seek legal advice from a lawyer. Most lawyers have a collaborative client list, where they can advise clients and guide them towards the best possible trial verdict. They offer their clients the ability to create lawsuits and write a will, if needed.
Do you acknowledge that upon being accepted you can be subject to removal at any given time?:
Yes, I fully acknowledge this.
Have you read & agreed to follow the Government Faction rules?:
Yes, I have read & will follow all the Government Faction rules.

IN CHARACTER SECTION
Full name:
The older gentleman sat with his legs crossed, his confidence tame and seemingly calculated.
“Naotaka Tachitsu.”
He spoke his name fluently and with pride.
Preferred title (Mr., Mrs., etc.):
Firmly stated.
“Mr. Tachitsu.”
Current age:
Narrowed his eyes in momentary thought.
“41. The years have started to blur, I fear.”
Date of birth:
“December 15th, 1983.”
Despite it being many years ago, he had no issue remembering his birthday, unlike his ever-evolving age.
Academic Background:
Taking a deep breath as his eyes glanced to the floor, Naotaka attempted to remember the correct sequence of events.
“At twenty-two, I began studying at the University of Tokyo. My goal at that age was to take a step back after leaving the JMSDF, but I still wanted to be productive. While majoring in economics and minoring in philosophy and political science, I offered assistance to other classmates as needed, serving as a tutor. After graduating near the top of my class, I earned my Bachelor’s of Economics degree at twenty-six.”
“At that point, it was time, I got into Chuo University Law School to receive my juris doctor degree and take my first step into the world of Japanese law. I wish I had more to say. It went about how I expected; I got what I came there for.”
Looking up in thought, he tried remembering more specifics.
“I believe I took some time to study for the bar, about a year and some change. It was worth it, however, because I thankfully passed my first attempt. So, of course, I went to the Legal Training and Research Institute for a year. It took about twelve years of my life, ending at the start of my thirties, but that concluded my academics.”
Academic Degrees:
Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics
Minor in Philosophy
Minor in Political Science
Graduate Degree:
Juris Doctor (J.D.)
Professional Credentials:
Passed the National Examination Bar
Completed Training at the Legal Training and Research Institute (LTRI)
Work experience:
Cleared his throat before explaining where he’s been prior to settling in Karakura.
“At the start of my potential-filled youth, I enlisted in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. I believed it would build a benchmark for future goals, teaching the discipline required for my path ahead. It proved to be quite valuable for me, as I learned many skills that have sharpened my insight into others. I left at twenty-two years old to pursue academic achievements.”
Fixed his posture, waving his hand to suggest the skipping of time in his story of events.
“Then, once I finished my academics and legal training in my early thirties, I became an assistant judge. Around this time, I began to grow an interest in the island of Karakura, but I couldn’t venture out because of work. Every three years or so, they moved me to a different major court, Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, until I gained about ten years of experience.”
Past Occupations:
4 Years in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF)
10 years as Assistant Judge
Nationality & born location:
Held his chin up as he answered.
“Japanese. Born in Tokyo, Japan.”
Criminal record:
Naotaka’s demeanor softens as he scoffs under his breath, a light smirk appearing on his lips as he seems to have genuinely forgotten this question would show up.
“No. I don’t have any criminal record.”
What makes you a good candidate for this job?:
“I’ve wanted to reside in Karakura for some time now. Unfortunately, I had other duties to attend to before claiming my stay here. This city is quite beautiful; it’s a shame others disagree.”
Felt confident with the experience he’d gathered up to this point. The Tachitsu sternly faced forward, providing a clear answer to the question ahead.
“Law is sacred, and those who believe themselves wiser than it are unfortunately mistaken. My life is dedicated to serving the law. In legal training, I ranked quite high and gained notice for my strict and unapologetic stances towards specific issues. However, it all came naturally as I learned from my service in the JMSDF, not to open oneself too long to others because of the risk of becoming misguided or too sentimental towards those in line for judgment. The real value I gained from all my years as an assistant judge was the connections I gathered with the senior judges and bureaucrats. They saw my short patience towards those who showed incompetence as my colleague, and seemed to appreciate my formalities. Perhaps I will give more guidance to those within Karakura’s government, rather than offering critiques and scrutiny.”
Snickered for a second before affixing his posture and holding a narrowed gaze as he began to ramble further into politics.
“I don’t need the years of study to justify my stance; I simply follow my moral alignment. The system is built not only to support the everyday man, but also those who spend their existence chipping away at it. The greatest kings and queens are not the ones who hold strength and holiness closest to their hearts. The ones who live the longest, are the most beloved, and collect undying loyalty from their people, are the ones who value wisdom over all. Leaders who let the system do its job, and sort matters out itself. Karakura is in desperate need of further cogs for the machine. I know my role in the government, and I intend to play it well.”
