Kainen is 18 years old who grew up in Dnipro, Ukraine.Kainen had always felt like he was living in a cage. Growing up in a strict household, he had to hide who he really was. He loved soft, cute clothes, painting his nails, and the feeling of pretty fabric against his skin, but he could never let his parents know. They were harsh, strict, and most of all, they hated anything that wasn’t "normal" in their eyes. So Kainen kept his secret locked away, pretending to be someone he wasn’t.
When he was 15, everything changed. The war took his parents, leaving him completely alone. At first, he wasn’t sure how to feel. He was sad, of course—losing them so suddenly was terrifying. But at the same time, a strange kind of freedom settled in his chest. For the first time, there was no one to tell him how to act, what to wear, or who to be.
Over the next few years, Kainen worked hard to survive. He took small jobs, saved up money, and planned his escape. He wanted a new life, far away from the painful memories. That’s when he set his sights on Japan a place that felt like a dream, where he could finally be himself.
Now, at 18, Kainen has started over. He lives in a small apartment, nothing fancy, but it’s his. He loves walking through the streets of Kara, feeling the cool air against his skin, finally wearing what he wants without fear. One of his favorite things in the world is fresh bread the soft, warm kind that melts in his mouth. He often stops by tiny bakeries, just to breathe in the smell and take a bite of something delicious. It makes him feel safe, like everything is going to be okay.
Kainen also loves affection. Hugs make him feel warm inside, and when he trusts someone, he isn’t afraid to show it. He loves little licks on the cheek, playful and sweet, like a reminder that he’s cared for. It’s the kind of love he never got growing up, but now, he’s learning that it’s okay to want those things.
Life isn’t perfect, and some days are still hard. But for the first time, Kainen is free. Free to be soft, free to be happy, free to be himself.
