As a small child he struggled with social connection and interaction, making it hard for him to maintain his early friendships. Atsumori grew up shy and lonely, and intentionally avoided people. He spent a portion of his childhood studying, and quickly found enjoyment in arts and crafts. He moved to Karakura to attend a more diverse high school, determined to try and break out of his awkward, anti-social shell.
