A hospital in Cannes, France is where she was born. Born on a snowy day even in the summer of August. She was named after a family friend, Keiko Ishinara, who had died quite some time ago. The name 'Keiko' represents a happy and blessed child. Keiko's middle name, 'Jiyu' represents freedom.

In the Kimura family, Keiko's parents were always on business trips. Their trips were always roughly 4-6 business days or even months. After about 12 years of traveling her parents decided to settle back home in Cannes, where Keiko was later born shortly 3 years after. Although they had settled, her parents had to continue doing business trips in order to have a stable income. So for Keiko she mainly stayed with a French family who was friends with the Kimuras.

She stayed with the family up until she was about 14, during that time she did frequently get to visit her parents. When she turned 15 her parents had more job opportunities in Karakura, Japan. Because of these opportunities the Kimura moved to Karakura.

However, after three years in Karakura her parents had decided that she needed to live independently, because their work would just pile up and they would have no time for her. Keiko complied to this wish and lived independently to take care of herself.
