Backstory:
Luis essentially had a basic childhood, growing up in a small suburban town not too far from Karakura. The only difference between him and his grade-school peers was the absence of his father, who had left two years after Luis' birth. There had been a long-standing marital struggle between his parents, though the fall of their relationship is often accredited to "creative differences," by his mother's perspective.
At age 12, Luis' mental health seemed to falter under his parents' pressure; His mother wanted him to pursue law, despite his wishes. Soon after, he was diagnosed with clinical depression after two months of experiencing severe symptoms, and began treatment. He continues therapy in his older teens, albeit sporadically as he denies there's still a problem.
The rest of his school years were relatively easy, until a certain health physical at Karakura High--It was discovered that Luis had a lump inside of his breast tissue. As it turns out, he was experiencing the early stages of breast cancer. If it hadn't been caught then, it could've quickly turned irreversible; fatal. It being uncommon in males, not to mention his young age of 16, he felt alone as he went through his treatment and missed classes. Luckily, his mother was barely able to scra.pe together the finances, and was able to get her son's breast cancer sent into remission and removed within the next two years.
Luis and his mother now are unable to cover some basic needs, and are required to rely on food stamps; all of their money was spent on Luis' lifeline due to lacking insurance. He tends to resent his father for the neglect of the family, knowing that child support bills would work wonders for the two of them, but they still received no money from that chronic tax-evader. His mother is now older and mentally worn, Luis often resorts to caring for her instead of himself. He's currently searching for a job, just to help him and his Ma out of this mess he contributed to, yet has found no luck yet.
It's the least he can do, in his eyes.
