Basic Information

Gender:
Female

Age:
18

Appearance
This well built woman seems troubled. Behind her flowing red hair lies a sullen face, which she tries to remedy when in public; but it seems a meager attempt. Her hair reached a little below her shoulder, it seemed meticulously well kept. Green eyes seemed to be filled with many unshed tears, but with a fiery determination to keep moving forward… Perhaps away? Very little makeup adorned her face, a little blush, and some discrete lipstick. Freckles seemed to spread around her face with the highest density on her cheeks. She is often found wearing clothes with shades of green to compliment her eyes. If she wasn’t wearing green, it would be browns and blacks.

Backstory:
Maeve’s upbringing was actually quite nice in Belfast; for a time at least. She moved around from school to school, though mainly because her parents wanted her to learn to be comfortable with both Protestants, and Catholics, and also get a broad education. Thus, every year Maeve would attend a different boarding school. Her parents insisted she pick up Gaelic as a language because it is a part of their culture which was slowly dying out. She was mainly learning this whenever she was in a Catholic boarding school, as they were more likely to teach it. However, Maeve is an avid reader and also taught herself at home. This stirred into a love of writing. Maeve ended up submitting poems to local newspapers, along with helping out with any school newspapers from her yearly boarding school. She found interest in Japanese culture during her education, she was enthralled by stories of the samurai, and the truly unique shift of their culture during westernization. She started to write a fantasy novel based upon the Sengoku Jidai period in Japanese history- It wasn’t finished though, as the world had other plans.

Belfast was the breeding ground for many conflicts between Catholics and Protestants; along with Irish Republicans and Loyalists. Belfast to this day has some “Peace Walls” which separate Catholic streets and neighborhoods from Protestant ones. While Maeve’s family hadn't partaken on either side of the troubles; they weren’t immune from persecution mainly due to the fact that her father was Protestant, and her mother was Catholic. To this day she is unsure which side was the culprit; all she knows is that on one faithful night a Molotov came crashing through their window. Maeve and her mother were told to get out of the house while her father went upstairs to get her brother… That was the last time she got to see her father. Having been trapped upstairs by the raging inferno, her father and brother were unable to escape the house. This memory lives in Maeve’s head nearly constantly.

Maeve and her mother only stayed in Northern Ireland for about a month afterwards before moving to England; for both of them were haunted by the partisan violence and conflict whenever they walked the streets of Belfast. Maeve lived in England for some time, but her mother was just making ends meet for the two of them, especially with the fact that Maeve really needed to be in a boarding school with her new PTSD, public schools did not work for her. Neither were able to afford therapy. Maeve, however, was given the opportunity to finish her schooling abroad due to an award for writing she had done for a large newspaper. She took the opportunity with open arms, hoping to find some escape from her past and better herself; she also secretly hoped that her mother would have it easier and be able to get help if she didn't have to support Maeve, even if she herself couldn’t get help. It didn’t take long for Maeve to decide on where she wanted to go, Japan. She had picked up basic Japanese in research for her currently shelved novel, but in the lead up to her next year she was able to get tutoring in Japanese at her boarding school in England. She landed on the decision for Karakura because its unique history intrigued her, perhaps it could provide further inspiration to her novel. It seemed like no time at all, and she was packing her bags and on a plane for Karakura, a forced smile on her face. She hoped this could be a new beginning.
