Backstory:
Megumi grew up in Nakafurano in the far-north prefecture of Hokkaido, with her parents, Harumi and Anastasia Nakamura, her little brother, Ivan, and her little sister Hina. She was actually her father, Harumi's brother's daughter, but both of her parents were killed in a car crash shortly after she was born. Harumi and Anastasia adopted her shortly after her parent's death, when she was still a newborn. The kanji for her name, Megumi, mean "beautiful blessing", and her adoptive parents chose the name because they felt it was a blessing that she had managed to survive the crash that killed her parents, despite only being a few days old.
She had a fairly normal childhood, as normal as it can be growing up in a small farming town in Japan's northern-most prefecture. Her parents loved her and her siblings dearly, and as the oldest she always felt the need to protect them from everything that might hurt them growing up, which could have been the stem of her desire to help people whenever possible. Her father, Harumi was born deaf, so he taught all of his children to speak JSL for easier communication. Her mother, Anastasia, was born in Turochak, Russia and moved to Japan to live with Harumi when they got married. She never taught Russian to her children, instead focusing on teaching them Japanese and JSL when they were at home. As she got older, Megumi started to gain more interest in where her mother grew up, and started looking into ways she could connect with that part of her culture. She eventually decided that the best way for her to connect with her Russian heritage would be to learn Russian herself. So, she took it upon herself to start using different language apps, watching videos online, and even hiring a private tutor to learn Russian. Eventually, she became close to fluent through lots of hard practice. She is able to talk with her and practice her Russian whenever she calls home or visits her family.
She moved to Karakura on her own when she turned 18, in grade 12. She oddly moved to Karakura after hearing of the city's high crime rate compared to other cities in Japan, but not because she wanted to join one of the city's myriad gangs. Her dream was always to help people in whatever way possible, and she thought that by moving to Karakura, she would be able to try and make a difference. Her plan is to go all the way through college until she achieves a PHD, and once she has acquired that, to apply to become a doctor at the Karakura Hospital.
