Why are Teachers so important to SchoolRP?:
Teachers are one of the single most vital parts of SRP. For starters, they are the one's who host classes. This allows other people RPing as students to actually be able to RP in a classroom setting. These classes have a large amount of information, from history teaching the past of Karakura to an english teacher making students learn how to write properly. Especially preformance arts, they give a host of oppurtunites for detailRP in the classroom. All in all, they flesh out the roleplay experience with the School part of School roleplay. Furthermore, they are the authority of the school. Giving out detentions to those who need it and generally maintaining stability. They aren't just limited to inside the school, they are fathers and mothers, they are confidants and mentors. They are people, who in their own time have their own personalities and hobbies. This allows for a more fleshed out RP, with significant ways to show this.
All in all, SRP would be incomplete, and just generally lacking without teachers.
Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you may lose your role?:
Absolutely, i'd expect nothing less of myself
Do you agree to undergo teacher training if your application is successful?:
I'd absolutely love to
In-Character Section
What's your character's full name?: Antonio Alejo
What is your character's nationality?: Mexican/Japanese
What is your preferred subject to teach?: History
Describe your character:
Antonio would have a rather intimidating stature at a height of 6’1 and has dark, brown eyes. Antonio’s Latin accent lends a uniqueness to his firm voice. His dark, curly hair frames a face marked by the weariness in his tired eyes, while his unkempt face shows a great deal of exhaustion. Despite his usually emotionless expression, he tends to have a calm and collected attitude. He's relatively seen with fine clothing, making sure he's good looking ... most of the time.
He remains calm and collected in conversation, having a responsible and professional attitude to all things in life. On top of that, he takes great pride in his duties. If it's educating his students or raising his family, he will always act with a sense of refinement to all his actions. He remains a very headstrong individual, yet remains humble and considerate. He's passionate about his work and hobbies, showing a great deal of joy when conversing with someone about them. He's also a very effective speaker, stating that he's won several LD debate matches during his stay in the states. He's traditional in all things, but still tries to remain open minded about new things to him.
What is your character's outlook on students and co-workers?:
He is neutral towards co-workers, opting on basing his opinion on their actions rather than anything else. He thinks respect is earned, not given. Just because they are teachers doesn't mean he likes them, but at the same time he decides to ignore any rumors and base his opinion solely on his own view.
With students, it's fairly different. He sees them like a shepherd would see his sheep. He sees them all with a sense of responsibility, instead of being a simple authoritative figure, he wants to be seen as a confidant to these students. He wants to assist the needy, teach the uninformed, and help the downtrodden. The trouble makers aren't difficult to him, they are merely children who've been given a hard hand in life and are forced to play strong. He strives to build professional relationships with students, helping them on their journey to the future. For if not him, then who?
What is your character's motivation for teaching?:
Antonio has a passion for education, wanting to make sure his students know the past and present. From the current government in Karakura to the overall situation of the world. He knows an uneducated youth easily plays into the hands of people in power trying to abuse their authority. Ever since he was young he saw abuse in power with the Karakura government. Even some of his family members fell victim to an overreaction by the KPD during a protest. From the beginning, he had spoken about the inaction of the population and overreaching by the government.
"Even at the start, Karakura was always heavily under the control of the powerful families living in the estate, yet we don't realize just how much they hold over us. They use fear as their weapon, harnessing it to deter all forms of aggression against their tyranny. Not only that, they use the lack of education in our city to help keep them in control. I see it in the streets, where young people no older than me are arrested and don't know what to do because they've never been taught their rights. I see it in our courts, where people wait months upon months for a trail which they were never given a date for. I see it in our classrooms, where people are to think not for themselves but for the machine that this city is created for. A machine that only seeks to fill the pockets of those in power while feasting on the suffering and cries of who they oppress. I am tired of being a cog in this stew of corruption, I wish to educate and fight for greater freedoms not only for our brothers and sisters but for the future generations! For if we don't fight, who will?"
Still, he was unable to make any difference, so he decided to go to the root of the problem. As a teacher, he wishes to help educate his students to realize that they do not need to stand for injustice or suppression. He wants to help them think for themselves, not only making them better students but people over all. With his teaching, he wishes to let students know what the past was so we can avoid it in the future. He wants to see his students become fine men and women someday, in a society free of oppression.
Roleplay Scenarios
A student in class is struggling to understand the content, what would your character do?:
he'd give them time to think, all of his students deserve help to flourish. He truly believes in no student should ever be left behind. He'd carefully go over the work material, giving him hints but never outright giving him an answer. Step by step instruction with patience is an important thing, as this is the new generation and he should teach them to the best of his ability. If they are still struggling, he might try an interactive lesson in a later class, inviting the student to attend if he'd like. Antonio wants to help, without force, because if he does they might as well not even be in his class in the first place.
A student is continuously being disruptive in class, talking out of turn, and making jokes with classmates. What would your character do?:
To begin, he'd try to identify the root cause of the student being disruptive. Maybe they're bored or seeking attention? He'd want to identify these before any action is taken. Secondly, he'd calmy attempt to redirect them to the topic at hand. He doesn't want to escalate the situation when there is no need to. If it does not work and he continues to be disruptive, he'd simply walk up to him calmly and explain his expectations and consequences. Simply saying that students that do not wish to participate and listen in his class, have no place in attending. Thus, he'd simply kick the student out if they refuse to cooperate. He is not rude with the student, remaining calm and collected no matter how the student acts. He gives them a sense of dignity, for he does not know how hard of a life they have.
Provide at least 2 interactive class ideas related to your preferred subject:
To begin, Antonio likes to host classes that get the students interested. He loves to do mock trials or sort of role plays to get their gears turning. One being a debate of the ages. Simply put it's a debate between two opposing perspectives from history. Such as imperialists and anti-imperialists. He'd set two teams, give them half the class to come up with arguments and pick speakers, then the rest to debate on the topic. He'd allow them to research on their own, and whoever he feels gave more of a contribution he'd reward. This would allow students to learn their side, not only the facts but the reasoning and emotions behind such
historical events.
He'd also love to do mock trials, such as from an event. He'd assign roles of historically important people from a specific event. (Such as the Congress of Vienna) After assigning roles, he'd let them research their historical figure before he lets them loose. Allowing them to flesh out their minds as they imagine themselves as the people they are playing as. He wants them to play into their roles, feeling the emotions and beliefs they felt.
To him, learning is important but they won't remember a boring history lesson. They need to want to learn, or else all his teaching and lessons are for nothing.
