My screen is just black???

Hello! I have been playing this server since early 2019 but I stopped after a month or two. Recently, I wanted to go visit the server and check out the new updates. But as soon as I entered the server, all I saw is black. I could still see my health and inventory bar, but my surroundings were black. Was I banned during my period of inactivity? Or is there something wrong? Please give me some insight on my situation T-T
