Somehow, throughout the several years of playing this server, this is my first application to be made! Shocking!

What position are you applying for (Maiden or Priest)?

This is my attempt to applying for Priest.

What is your motivation for applying?

While I carry several reasons for applying, there are a few that may stick out. With a character who basically lived at Shinsei Seinaru Monastery, cough Hoshiko Tachitsu cough, I have had many different interactions - and I learnt, that both Maiden and Priests, are the walking definitions of Godsent, icly and oocly. Each member I have met there are unbelievably friendly and understanding, and, not to get sappy, I have made so many incredible friends from the Monastery who have also became my motivation for applying. And, being known as an absolute sucker for lore, I of course would love the chance to become involved with a lore-centered faction. The first spirit my character Tachitsu has met during a visit to the Shrine, was a silly Kami named Tamashi Tankyu 'Kitsa,' played by the wonderful Customable before their departure. While I am aware I will probably not get any more interactions with similar spirits, I will state that the many things I have learnt from said spirit, was what interested me to begin with. The interactions I had with Tamashi Kitsa left me completely fascinated with the servers lore as a whole, and I believe the Shrine Faction will give me more chances to connect with previous stories, alongside the community in general. Lastly, with Shinsei Seinaru Monastery following Shintoism, it will act as further motivation for me to study the religion itself. This is a big part for me, as I, admittedly, struggle to get seriously invested enough to teach myself about a lot of different topics.

What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?

I do not know all details about Shintoism, though I will always be willing to learn more about the layered religion.
Knowing most of the basics, I can say that Shintoism is one of the more common native religions in Japan, also being a key feature of the countries' traditions. Shintoism would definitely not be considered a strict religion, as it is, for the most part, about harmonizing with nature. This beautiful religion follows virtues, such as Loyalty. While there are plenty of beings the people of this religion may worship, the being typically followed, is the Kami! Though we must not forget, with traditional religions, come various practices. These practices contain the stunning Shrines, Rituals, Home altars-otherwise known as Kamidana, and Japanese Festivals, lastly known as Matsuri!
· · ─ · ✶ · ─ · ·
What are the Torii Gates? The Torii are gates marking the entrances and exits to sacred areas, specifically being the passing to a Shrine following the religion Shintoism, in this case, being Shinsei Seinaru Monastery. The Torii are generally a vibrant hue of reds and orange tones, used to both offer protection against dishonorable things, and to act as a guide for citizens throughout the building. While passing through a torii, you would normally stop to bow, doing so to show respect to the Gods.
What is a Kami? Well, the Kami are deities involved in Shintoism itself. These whimsical beings are spirits, typically found in elements of nature. These spirits usually reside near mountains, rivers, and simple forests. The Kami can also bare the forms of living beings, including critters!
How does a Kamidana work? Simply imagine a miniature shrine, except it carries a little twist - it rests comfortably in your own living space! Commonly used to hold sacred charms, these home altars are treated to daily with offerings, listing Sake, Rice, Water, and Salt. The point of the offerings being to show your respect to the Kami, you may indulge in everyday prayers to the Kamidana by bowing, clapping and wishing prayers.
How do Festivals occur? While this one is basically self explanatory, the Matsuri are lively celebrations that linger with amazing music, thought-out traditional dances, and many acts that express the citizens' gratitude to the Kami!

Backstory:

· · ─ · ✶ · ─ · ·
Reika Tsunomori, born in a snow buried town located in Aomori Prefecture, was an only child raised by her mother - a shrine attendant who had a reputation for her strict devotion to the Traditional Religions. When she turned eight, she had already said goodbye to her father, who her mother called his departure, a lack of faith, and a punishment by the divine. With that, each practice and each breath became revolved around purification cleansings, devotion, and duty. The day the solemn child turned fourteen, she was left alone with her mothers death, caused by an illness that lacked a cure at the time. Fortunately, a few winters pass by after her mothers death, and Reika Tsunomori meets a middle-aged Priest while cleaning a courtyard during a frozen over morning, the man known for his unwavering patience. The definition of an striking contrast to Reika's mother, Kiyomasa Seishiro never dared to demand perfection from them. Instead, Kiyomasa only ever treated them as a living human who experienced emotions, just as everyone else who walked this planet did. Taught as if the Gods were nothing but strict judges, these thoughts slowly left Reika's mind each passing day the more she spent time with the Priest. Over the next few years, she began visiting the Monastery in her hometown more frequently, occasionally assisting the thoughtful Priest throughout maintenance. He taught her the basics of Shintoism, the meaning behind each offering, each practice - allowing her to ask questions, to let her learn without unnecessary judgement. Over time, Kiyomasa Seishiro became her anchor, guiding her through life, showing her that devotion could also be an act of care rather than punishment. Eventually, on a dewy evening, they had a lengthy conversation as the warm lantern lights danced across the Shrines sanctuary back in her home town. That day, would also be marked as the day she was adopted by the caring Priest.
· · ─ · ✶ · ─ · ·
The seasons in Aomori Prefecture are constantly marked by clear changes, being significant, and distinct. Reika Seishiro had grown used to that rhythm - and it was one of those hesitant springs, that Reika began to feel a quiet shift within herself. Reika swept the courtyard alone that evening, their reflection burdened with a faint ripple, the robes they wore that held symbols of duty and structure, began feeling like layers of identity. Some days, Reika Seishiro preferred the simplicity of masculine formality, while others, the softness of femininity fit them like the silk of ceremonial garments. But, most of the time, Reika felt as if she were both - or even neither. Bringing this up to Kiyomasa Seishiro was not an easy action, their words stumbling as they confessed the issues regarding their identity. Despite Reika's worsening anxiety over the situation, Kiyomasa remained calm, baring no judgement. In fact, the Priest acted as if her concerns had already been answered. The following days, Reika realized that divinity, as her adoptive father had taught it, was only in harmony, not of conformity. Harmony with the self, with the world. In fact, Reika Seishiro's fluidity felt as if they were a reflection of the Gods themselves. Ever-shifting, though still eternal in their essence. The lady later came out as Genderfluid, and has lived their life, for the most part, peacefully.
· · ─ · ✶ · ─ · ·
ฅ What is Genderfluid? Genderfluid is the identity where a persons' gender changes over time! Not being one specific gender, such as male or female. Over different periods, this fluidity may change, and the person will identify as a man, woman, both, or even neither at times.

How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?:
As an otherworldly being, Reika Seishiro would be seen wandering Shinsei Seinaru Monastery quietly, strolling in serene silence as they admired the Monasteries mesmerizing environment. As someone practically suffering with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, otherwise known as OCD, they would also, frequently, be caught sweeping the shrine or repeatedly wiping down a table until their mind finally deems the exaggerated task correct - especially when it came to those Godforsaken leaves, always ever falling. The most noticeable thing about them, were their movement, for there were far too much precision with each step they took. Despite their uncanny behavior, elegance still remained.
· · ─ · ✶ · ─ · ·
Reika Seishiro would bow deeply upon noticing a guest arrive, welcoming the visitor with a gentle greeting as an inviting aura followed the Priest. They would be quite observant, almost like an owl, yet patient with the other, not daring to interrupt the other party. Reika would check with the visitor occasionally, politely asking if they need assistance at all. Should any issues occur within Shinsei Seinaru Monastery, Reika will do everything in their power to handle the situation. Throughout the visitation, Reika Seishiro will stay respectful.
· · ─ · ✶ · ─ · ·
Reika Seishiro is known to be quite adaptable. While interacting with other staff, nothing will change, the Priest would still be as warm hearted as usual. There are times that they would possibly be more withdrawn, though that would simply stem to anxiety, only on bad days. Just as how she does with regular guests, Reika would bow to other staff, a warm yet small smile gracing her expression. While any other staff may be performing practices, or instructions, they would absorb each and every detail, perhaps being over observant.

You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?:

While Reika's Seishiro's actions would mostly vary depending on the age range of the disrespectful guest, she wouldn't dare to rush in or shout. They would approach the guest with each step measured, their voice firm while holding its' usual soft tones to it, carrying over the distance and lacking even a smudge of anger.
“ Pardon me. . but the roofs are not for playing, as it is both disrespectful and dangerous. Please come down. ” Their speech would stay polite, unwavering as she did not scold, making it clear. Being a pacifist, Reika Seinshiro believes Guidance over punishment is the only way to go about things. Along as the guest seemed unaware of the rules, or somehow even the dangers, they will gesture towards a safer path, or even demonstrate proper behavior. Reika would remind them that the Kami watches over the grounds, and calmly tells the troubling visitor to respect them. They might watch the guest silently momentarily, guaranteeing there would be no further disruptions. Though, if the guest continues their shena****ns, Reika would tell them to leave Shinsei Seinaru Monastery, with the same courteously manner.

Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?:

Reika Seishiro paused, contemplating that question. With her eyes lowering only slightly, her speech became drawn out, each word thoughtfully chosen. “ Growing up, I believed that religion was only punishment - by becoming a Priest for Shinsei Seinaru Monastery, I feel like I will have more of a chance of . . rewriting what I was taught worship meant. During my teenage years, I was adopted by a Priest named Kiyomasa Seishiro, and I truly appreciate everything he has done for me, so . . I wish to honor my fathers faith. He believed in me. ” A faint breath, evidently only for the purpose of steadying themself. Reika quietly hummed, a melodic tune, before adding. “ I want to have the ability to serve the Gods sincerely. As well as to help others find calmness where I once found fear, not just that though . . to help others find calmness in any situation. ” They spoke firmly, their voice elevated with sincerity
· · ─ · ✶ · ─ · ·
Reika Seishiros' adoptive father, Kiyomasa Seishiro, was a hearty Priest who taught her the first ever living kindness she has associated with religion. By becoming a Priest, it is not simply a personal goal, it is their way of honoring his trust, and continuing his legacy, something they feel they need to do to ensure that Kiyomasa's compassion will not ever fade. Reika strongly believes the world outside of the shrine, Karakura, is entirely chaotic, full of noise, full of pain. She wants to assist in maintaining the shrine as a place untouched by cruelty. She hopes to protect others, from the coldness of faith that she once endured. Reika Seishiro wishes to achieve their set goal on redefining their faith. She wants to take the same practices that had hurt her before, and be able to experience them as acts of gentleness and understanding - as if a silent rebellion against her mothers' cruelty.

Reika Seishiro, being a pacifist, values serenity. They are confident that the peace is sacred, valuing stillness, whether it be of the mind, the air, as well as their spiritual state. They only choose compassion, believing that faith lacking empathy, is hollow. Reika Seishiro holds a tight profound respect for life, mother nature, and the spiritual forces. She believes each thing carries a quiet divinity, this may even include silence, their reverence stemming from a heavy case of admiration. She practices devotion as an act of gratitude, no longer than fear of punishment. She has learnt that the Gods do not demand. While this thought is rarely admitted, one of Reika's deepest values, is redemption. Not in a malicious manner, not in a religious sense either, but as personal healing. She wishes to prove that her faith, her choices, her bare existence can shift her pain into peace. Each prayer, is an unspoken hope, as she wishes to rewrite the meaning of her past.
