So they said they could keep her until she was six years old and no more than that. Before giving her to the orphanage, her parents named her Ae-Cha, meaning loving daughter, but Poppy felt too much hatred for her parents and changed it when she turned 18. After changing her name, Poppy went to Korea to find her parents. She found them pretty quickly but only told them to stop sending her letters, that she never wanted to see them again, and that they were fools for thinking she'd be any loving daughter after what they'd done.
Backstory:
Poppy was born in Korea, but when she turned 6, her parents abandoned her in an orphanage in Japan. They didn't want to, but her mother's parents (Her grandparents on her mother's side) decided it was their choice whether or not her mother should have had a baby. They said they could keep her until she was six years old and no more than that. She always watched her parents and grandparents screaming, shouting, throwing and fighting. She hated it. She was scared, with no one to hold on to. Before giving her to the orphanage, her parents named her Ae-Cha, meaning loving daughter, but Poppy felt too much hatred for her parents and changed it when she turned 18. At the orphanage, Poppy made friends with a girl named Sakura. Sakura was deaf and nervous, but the girls were best friends. Poppy didn't tell anyone at the orphanage her real name, Ae-Cha, because she thought of it as something she didn't need. Some people think of words as a gift, but Poppy thinks of hers as a burden. So she didn't even tell the staff her real name. As Poppy grew up, her parents would send letters to her at the orphanage. The first letter she got was when she was 7. It was a short letter, but it told her that her parents loved her and tere ttooweak to fight back against her grandparents. They kept sending her letters like this, but poppy kept ripping them up and throwing them out. The girls learned what they had to at a school near the orphanage. They went to school every day and suffered pretty lousy bullying. Poppy sometimes attacked them in rage when they hit Sakura or pulled out her hearing aids. The kids would often take away Sakura's hearing aids and Poppy's glasses, making them defenceless. One day, however, a new girl at the school stepped in to help them against the bullies. This girl was named Kayla and was also Korean, like Poppy. Soon enough, the three girls were best friends. They played together every day, worked together, and grew up together.
When poppy was 17, her parents sent her another letter. This time around, though, Poppy wrote back. She told them to stop bothering her and that they should've been better. She told them she was planning on changing her name to Poppy, which she went by at the orphanage. When Sakura and Poppy turn 18, the orphanage has to let them go. After changing her name legally, Poppy went to Korea to find her parents. Sakura and Kayla stayed in Tokyo and rented an apartment together. She found them pretty quickly but only told them to stop sending her letters, that she never wanted to see them again, and that they were fools for thinking she'd be any loving daughter after what they'd done. Her parents tried to fight back, saying they did everything they could, but Poppy had a good enough memory to remember how it was. She was halfway through her time in Korea when she got a call from Sakura. Sakura was stuttering and not speaking correctly; she couldn't even talk. So Sakura texted it to her instead. There were tons of spelling errors in the text since Sakura was shaking and trembling, but she was told that Kayla was hit by a car trying to save Sakura. Sakura kept apologizing through text, but poppy said it wasn't her fault since it wasn't. She knew it wasn't anybody's fault, but she felt she could've stopped it if she had beenhad been there. Even though Poppy's older now, she hates loud noises, fights, arguments and destructive emotions (Sadness, anger, anxiousness, etc.). Sakura and Poppy both got tattoos on their palms with hearts and the initials 'KJ' in memory of Kayla.
