On the 30th of October (2025), Doug Brown made the announcement on the school’s P.A. system that he was now in charge of school sports and that he was on the look for new captains for some teams. For those new captains, he was hosting tryouts. Any interested students without any prior obligations were able to come to the SLT offices to prove that they were capable of running a team.

Pictured above is the setup for the tryouts; students who wanted the position were able to sign up with either Jandranka Draganja-V.M. (Highschool) or Korain Byun (College). Then, they were added to the waitlist and eventually called into the office for an interview with Doug Brown, Kaito Akiyama, and Kiyoko Akai. That is, if you can call it an interview. “They just said ten minutes [and] asked me [to] introduce myself,” noted a candidate for the college position, Ishii Haise.

All students who went into the ‘interview’ were given that same prompt: ten minutes to introduce yourself. For most students, the SLT didn’t even look at them (pictured right), they just listened and occasionally made comments. All the candidates went in blind, not knowing what was going to be asked nor what team they were trying out to lead. “Just kicked [us] out, didn’t even let [us] talk,” said Ishii Haise. The leadership team kicked students out at the exact ten minute mark. Not great, but, hey, at least SLT is becoming more punctual! “But [it] is an easy way to get in,” said Landon Brooks, captain of the male high school football team.

The interview, while not perfect for anyone, was worse for some people than others. Vivienne Vexx, an 18-year-old wheelchair user, remarked: “[Kiyoko Akai] grabbed my wheelchair and pushed me through the door.” While this claim has not yet been proven, it’s been assumed true by multiple eyewitnesses.

“What do a bunch of fat professors and teacher know about sports? IF they know what’s good, then they’d stick their nose in their studies instead of in sports,” college volleyball captain Kokichi Yūhi noted, saying that athletic students should be part of the decisionmaking process of new captains.

Shortly after the interviews, the high school cheer team and high school female football team were scrapped of all their members. The current high school cheer team captain is unknown, however the female football team’s new captain is assumed to be Genèvieve Montclaire.

The college male basketball team’s roster has also thinned out, left with three members. More teams are expected to have purges in the coming days.
