HOW DID WE COME UP WITH DAISUKI YŌHIN?
だいすき用品 !
- 大好き (Daisuki): Written in hiragana as だいすき, it means "loved," "favorite," or "liked very much." So だいすき用品 reads directly as "Favorite Goods" or "Beloved Supplies."
- 大好きな人の用品 / Daisuki-san's Goods: Because Japanese names are written in hiragana/kanji without built-in spaces, placing だいすき right next to 用品 (Yōhin = supplies/equipment/goods) makes it function simultaneously as "Daisuki's Supplies Store."
As for the establishment’s brand identity, its initial incarnation was unmistakably modeled after an oversized outdoor retail giant - a deliberate homage to a classic "Bass Pro Shop." In its infancy, Daisuki Yōhin lacked the specialized inventory to fully realize this grand vision, operating instead as a modest store for everyday essentials. However, as trade expanded and the inventory flourished, the business gradually acquired everything it needed and more. Following the recent redevelopment of the local shoreline, the shop pivoted away from being a mere commercial copycat to cultivate a distinct identity of its own. Embracing a classic Japanese maritime aesthetic, Daisuki Yōhin evolved into a rustic, weathered seaside shack with an authentic fisherman’s soul: an unassuming, "rinky-dink" front that feels entirely original, yet quietly carries the understated tension of an establishment covertly run by a decorated war veteran and a hardened yakuza leader. What a great duo!
SO WHAT ARE WE SPECIFICALLY?
Without simply repeating everything above, our shop specializes in outdoor gear, furniture, and equipment. Roughly 75% of our inventory spans a wide variety of activities, including mechanics, fishing, camping, and hiking. In addition, we offer indoor decor such as fish tanks, animal trophies, general home furnishings, and more! While we are actively working to move away from the "Bass Pro Shop" label, the reality is that we aim to provide the same range of versatile, high-quality items that customers look for in a complete outfitter.
THE HISTORY BEHIND DAISUKI YŌHIN
THE ORIGINAL; MOTAKO
Subject: 2021 - 2022だいすき用品の始まり
Before Daisuki Yōhin, the lot belonged to Akihito Clan Captain, Ryuu Tashiro, under the store-name Motako. Motako, just like its successor, was known to be a store which held deep-rooted Yakuza ties, often through its security branch, which heavily consisted of Akihito men. Among these men was Clan Soldier at the time; Aki Masahiko. It is said that years after the Karakura-branch of The Akihito Clan disbanded, Masahiko, who was now a first-regional Lieutenant, serving under a main-land branch of the same Clan, within the streets of Shinjuku ward’s infamous Kabukicho, was scouted by Thao, due to old and faded employee records. Relics from a by-gone era, and the twilight of the Yakuza. Masahiko’s first involvement with Daisuki Yōhin was akin to something of a shadow partner, until; upon his return to Karakura’s shores; he formally stepped into the spot-light as the beach-side store’s Co-owner. A perfectly reliable surface occupation, hiding something far more sinister beneath.THE START OF DAISUKI YŌHIN
Subject: 2022 - 2023
だいすき用品の始まり
Thao had just returned from the military after being discharged due to his age. This shop was now all he had outside of his family, and it quickly became his world. He brought on Aki Masahiko as his primary co-owner, as he tried to take over Motako himself and has history with the area, and Jason Anderson as his other co-owner, a math teacher. His first wave of employees consisted of many faculty members from Karakura High School, majority of which Jason Anderson assisted him to recruit. At the time, there were major issues regarding late paychecks and underpayments, so Thao stepped in and provided them with the money they were owed. Back then, Thao still held a rigid military mindset: employees had to wear uniforms, store merchandise properly, and line up before and after their shifts while Thao acted like a drill sergeant. Not all faculty members stayed, as most left after a new Senior Leadership Team entered the school. Others stepped up to take their place - people that even Masahiko didn't have close connections to at the time: known criminals from the underworld. Those who did business with Motako coming back to hopefully reinstate some old business.
It isn't well known how exactly Thao got in contact with these people - perhaps through the alcohol and cigarettes he sold dirt cheap.. But regardless, it wasn't long until nearly every employee was a criminal, BMDA, or BMD themselves. Thao didn't need any gang associates for protection like other shops did; Daisuki Yōhin had the ultimate protection - the leaders of the underworld themselves.
It wasn't long before Daisuki Yōhin became a hub for high-stakes deals after closing hours. Thao partnered with the leader of Club Ikigai at the time to supply them with millions' worth of alcohol, and he even gotten offered a BMD as security. In fact, he was the primary reason shopkeepers stopped being charged criminally for illegal services, receiving mere fines instead. Within these years, Daisuki Yōhin easily made millions of yen solely off illegal sales of alcohol and cigarettes to criminals, sneaky youth, and BMD alike. However, the protection he possessed proved strictly necessary: once, Anarchy attempted to-and successfully did-bust into Daisuki Yōhin to get to Thao after one of their members sold the rights to all of their old cosmetics. Needless to say, they weren't happy to be met by three BMDs and their associates waiting for them.
BŌSŌZOKU PERIOD OF KARAKURA
Subject: Late 2023 - 2024空倉の暴走族時代
This era was marked by the rise of Bōsōzoku street gangs in Karakura - a new brand of crime that quickly took the city, including Daisuki Yōhin, by storm. Thao’s grandson, Michael Masahiko, served as the Karakura Highspeed Division Captain at the time, assigned by his superior to handle these punks. Meanwhile, Thao took on a new co-owner following the tragic, sudden death of his previous business partner, Jason Anderson. The new co-owner was Junai Donquixote, who also happened to co-run Rakkyatsu alongside Koji Hiroshima. By this point, most of the attention the shop had received from BMDs had cooled down; key figures rarely showed their faces anymore, save for a few loyal associates who continued working at the shop long after their old contracts and deals had expired. Instead, a new crowd found its way to the store: delinquents.
In a strange way, it all fit together perfectly. Daisuki Yohin ran the mechanic shop; Michael-a former mechanic for these crews - was now the officer tasked with keeping an eye on his old friends; and Junai - Thao's co-owner - held a direct connection to them. Everything linked together. Thao sold the gang members alcohol, some of the punks came to work for him, and Michael managed to secure a solid number of arrests in the process. All was going well. The parking lot outside the shop frequently served as the host ground for Bōsōzoku car shows, with reporters constantly snapping photos and publishing reports, while external booths brought in an extra few bucks. Daisuki Yōhin had never sold so many car parts in its history!
By the end of it, however, Thao had grown exhausted by the drama these kids brought with them. Junai eventually departed for the mainland to handle his parent’s business, Michael was left with little work left to do on that front, and Masahiko made his return - having no patience for any of this Bōsōzoku nonsense. As the police locked up the primary troublemakers, the city cracked down on illegal street races, and the criminal underworld shut these delinquents out entirely, the scene slowly died down. That was when Aki stepped in to clean up the mess, and Thao began contacting some old ‘Colleagues’ of his . .
MASAHIKO FRONT
Subject: 2024-2025
マサヒコフロント
In and around the third quarter of 2024, A small subsidiary Yakuza family of the Dojin-Kai found itself in Karakura, with no assets; no money; and no men. The only connection the newly-founded family’s Patriarch still held within the now-changed island was his occupation as Co-Owner of the Karakura-based store, yet (thanks to his efforts and aggressive expansion tactics within the mainland) now nation-wide business, Daisuki Yōhin. Slowly, the store-front fell back into its predecessor’s origins: A place where one would only have to linger for a few minutes, and an interaction with the Yakuza would not be far behind.
Regardless of what happened behind the closed doors of the shop-floor, and scarcely used employee offices and meeting rooms, the actual store itself continued to operate normally; albeit with a far more established security branch, and a few out-of-place cashiers. Regardless; as all things do in the destructive wake of criminals; the store’s identity inevitably became more and more corrupted, and associated with organized crime, as the family grew more and more. Things continued down this path for a time, until with little warning, the family disappeared.
PRESENT DAY
Subject: 2025 - Present Day現代
Following the collapse of the Masahiko Yakuza within Karakura, Thao found himself isolated once more. Stripped of his co-owner, His son, key alliances, and underworld network, the illicit economy that Daisuki Yōhin had long underwritten abruptly vanished. Even his grandson, Michael, had left KPD within Karakura to go do a highspeed division within Osaka. The secret trade of supplying alcohol and contraband smokes to local street gangs, Ikigai, and black-market dealers dried up overnight. For the first time in nearly four years, the business was reduced to square one. Exhausted and facing a near-total turnover of his veteran staff, Thao required a new wave of reliable labor-workers who possessed the same unwavering discipline and obedience as his former criminal associates.The demographic that filled the void was entirely unprecedented for the establishment: destitute college students and athletes. Suddenly, Thao commanded a workforce comprised of desperate jocks and eager academics, individuals who diligently operated the retail counters and even donned mascot costumes for amusement. Consequently, the atmosphere within the shop underwent a profound transformation. The pervasive tension that once defined the storefront dissipated; the arrival of law enforcement no longer triggered alarm, nor did municipal inspections necessitate the destruction of hidden inventory. For the first time in his tenure, Thao could stand down from high alert and dedicate his efforts solely to legitimate commerce.
Coinciding with Karakura’s extensive renovation of the coastline, the physical shop was rebuilt, granting Thao a clean slate, a refreshed aesthetic, and a renewed philosophy. The stern, militaristic lineup procedures and hushed negotiations of the past were abandoned in favor of a far more lenient environment. Recognizing that his new staff consisted of young adults with promising futures- athletes and scholars whose ambitions would be permanently derailed by association with organized crime.. Thao made a deliberate choice to shield them from his former life. When Aki Masahiko eventually returned to Karakura, and surveyed the transformed storefront, the reality was unmistakable: Daisuki Yōhin was no longer a front for a criminal enterprise, nor would it ever serve as one again. This, is the current state the shop is in.
WHY IS HE MR. DAISUKI?
Subject: Thao Saiky (a.k.a. "Daisuki," "Daisuki Yohin," "Daisuki Masahiko")起源と系譜
To the ordinary citizens of Karakura, the man’s true origins remain obscure. He is known by many aliases-most notably Mr. Daisuki or Masahiko.. yet by blood and law, his birthright belongs to a far older name: Thao Saiky.Born from one of Rie Saiky’s clandestine affairs within the family, Thao’s biological father remains officially unrecorded. Out of necessity and political duty, he was forced upon a prominent businessman, Takei Saiky of the House of Knowledge, a master merchant hailed as the preeminent figure of his era. Though designated as the man’s sole successor, Thao’s youth was defined by alienation.
Bearing no physical resemblance to the rest of the Saiky lineage, he was swiftly ostracized by the family elders. What subtle voices might label as mere childhood bullying was, in truth, systematic emotional abuse and systemic isolation. Unwilling to submit, Thao actively rebelled. When the elders conspired to exile him to the family’s rural agricultural estates as punishment, Thao struck a decisive counter-blow: he abandoned the estate entirely and enlisted in the Japanese military.

Decades later, age forced his discharge from active military service. After serving with the military for decades and participating in the Cambodian-Vietnamese War, he was compelled to return to Karakura not out of loyalty, but necessity, Thao found himself in a position he detested - an elder within a family he despised.
Terrified of becoming the very tyrants who had tortured his youth, Thao withdrew into self-imposed isolation, refusing contact with the clan at large. He bound his world strictly to those few who actively sought his counsel: his sister Koizumi, and eventually, a young man named Katsuhito.
Having never taken a wife nor fathered a child of his own, Thao saw a reflection of his own troubled youth in Katsuhito. Despising Katsuhito’s father for repeating the same toxic neglect of past generations, Thao stepped into the void when he could. Was he the most present? Most definitely not - but he did what he could. attending every birthday party, every family gathering, and standing proudly at Katsuhito’s Ph.D. graduation. To this day, Katsuhito remains the sole member of the Saiky bloodline who dares to openly visit the establishment known as Daisuki Yohin outside of opening hours.

偽りの希望と最後の断絶
For a brief moment, a reconciliation seemed possible. Engaging with the new generation of family council leaders, Thao observed subtle shifts in leadership and believed, perhaps naively, that the Saiky clan might finally offer a brighter future for its youth.Encouraged by this perceived reform, Thao sought to expand his household. He officially integrated his long-time business partner and co-owner, Aki Masahiko, into the family fold, along with Aki’s surrogate son, Michael Masahiko. For a brief season, Thao tasted true peace.. possessing a legacy and a lineage to carry his name, bound not by blood, but by choice.
The peace was short-lived.
A bitter dispute with the high-ranking members of the family council shattered the illusion. In a moment of sacred disrespect, the inner circle spat curses at the elder, declaring that if he wished to abandon the clan, he was free to rot.
Thao walked away and never returned to the estate.
現状
Though Thao retained his keys to the family estate, he never set foot on its grounds again. A heavy shroud of silence fell over the event. The elders, terrified of the leverage held by one of the oldest living members - a man who knew where every body was buried and whose words could dismantle the Saiky reputation overnight - chose to strike him from the ledger entirely.
Thao willingly accepted this erasure.
Today, he lives somewhat quietly under the names Mr. Daisuki and Masahiko - honoring the family bond of the man he adopted into his life. To the Saiky family, he is a ghost. But to those who remember, he remains the biggest disasters of a birth and affair that was seen.
