What position are you applying for (Maiden or Priest)?

Priest

What is your motivation for applying?

Becoming a Shinkan (priest) is my character's oldest and most ambitious dream, he was raised in the Shinto religion and grew up spending most his days at the Monastery, his ultimate goal in life is to work in the Shrine. I also want to take more time to dive in the lore of the Shrine and Karakura, I've always been attracted by Japan and it's traditional customs and folklore so naturally, joining the faction makes the most sense to enjoy my time spent on the server even further.

What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?

Shintoism is a religion native to Japan, the religion is centered around spirituality, purity and balance. It does not have a sacred book, nor a clear founder. The main focus of Shintoism is to worship a Kami in assigned Shrines, cleanse the world from impurities (Yokais, negative energies and such.) and sometimes host events involving the common folks.

I shall always be open to learn more on the matter as I am not as educated as I wish I was, if there is more I should know through RP and/or OOCly.

The Ashes

Wakana, formerly known in his close circle as Hyakkimaru Haīroguma, was born in a secluded clan, a cult bearing the name of Haiiroguma no kyoudan, whom lived along the pathways of the ochiba forest and the peaks of the mountains. His start in life was unstable, uncertain, deemed as the heir of his clan, he followed a merciless training, his days consisting of daily duties such as fighting until no sound came out of his immobile frame in the cool grass, supplying the members of his clan with gathered goods from the woods themselves and praying to the Kami they worshiped together.

Apart from this repetitive schedule, his early years did not take any other turn, somehow finding balance in a setting that did not allow him to bloom as a young sprout. He had once a sister of a same pregnancy, a twin, their bond was unmatched and the two children were holding each other no matter where life was leading them, inseparable like the day and the night, one followed another.

At the dawn of his 13th spring, after completing one of his daily chores, Wakana returned to his camp, unaware that that what was awaiting him there would change his existence in every point, and for the rest of his days. Destroyed, burnt to the ground, and no signs of life. How did this happen? Where was everyone? His world collapsed right this instant.

His very first thought was Nagaaki, where is she. Where is the other half of his soul, she could not be gone as well, she obviously had to be hiding under the debris! But no one was here, even the closest person he had vanished into thin air. And soon, his sense of logic as well.

The Journey

Alone in a brand new world, he was now left to his own responsibility, roaming through the meadows and clearings, Wakana had no destination. He had just lost his everything, his roots and his people, what was left for him to grasp on? Was there anything left for him in this vast and chilling region? He thought about reaching out to the outside world, the raucous and restless town he was so long forbidden to approach, yet he did not. Despite the fear; the hunger and the loneliness, he did not look back.

On the edge of a bamboo forest, the young Hekiryuu was stopped by an unusual sight, a tall, strong, toii gate was standing here, two lanterns holding it company as two pillars would hold a palace. Behind, a serpent-like pathway, slithering upward into the walls of the mountain. He stepped forward, one foot after another inching closer to the end of this curious line, he was not expecting anything, yet the bright colors of the Monastery revealed themselves, the old wooden buildings imposing around the large courtyard, and a sakura tree so majestic that the boy's field of view was not enough to cover it's entirety.

Here and then, right in this moment, he knew. This is where he belonged.

The Quest

Along the days, that then turned into weeks, then into months, Wakana spent most of his time at the Monastery; the boy learned diverse tasks with the shrine workers, attending the garden, the customs of this new environment, to worship and pray in ways he was unfamiliar with. His daily life was a slow and constant rythm, his chores were yet not the only thing stirring around his schedule. He learned to grow along relations, highs, lows, and how to be a compassionate human among many others, he learned pride and values, pain and happiness.

During his stay, Wakana had met the young Miosa Saiky. For a time the boy had been very clear about his desire to learn this newly discovered language, Jin. On their very first encounter she offered to teach him, however, an issue made it's way to the surface. he did not know how to read nor write, the boy was dumbfounded, all these books and all these strange symbols, yet he held on tight, determined to achieve his precise goal.

The weeks went by, as Saiky visited every so often, in these times, they'd sit down around a cup of tea and they'd regain their roles, teacher and student. However, the dynamic overtime shifting to a blossoming friendship, the two of them sharing various afternoons and memories, dear to Wakana's heart. The calm and serenity of the shrine allowed Hekiryuu to double his efforts as this quest reached it's end months after their first meeting, it was now the final lesson. And the young boy walked out of it with pride, and gratitude, having now three new skills in his quiver.

Through the single year he spent in the busy city life of Karakura, he had been fostered by his uncle and godfather, relying on an external fostering system based in Kasaoka. During his monitoring, his background was investigated thoroughly, discovering the identity of his biological mother, Sayuri Hekiryuu, hence his now legal name, allowing him to officially be recognized as a citizen of Japan.

The End?

Wakana met many people during his time spent in Karakura, a notorious soul, bearing the name of Aiya was one of them. Fragile figure among the crowd of life, she had taken the will to accompany Wakana in his life, she offered a place where his thirst of knowledge would never remain unattended. Together, they departed for Germany, living up at an estate and studying in a private High School.

These were the four years the young man was away for, but against all odds, they were the one of the most painful. Wakana roamed through hallways that did not allow his soul to echo, spoke to people who did not reflect his heart, he was lost at sea, far from home in a setting so unfamiliar that he burned restless, the constant feeling of unease creeping into his veins.

His days were led by the loud crowds at dawn, the pounding resonating in his mind at noon and the smell of incense at dusk. The food tasting quite not right, the humid air sticking to his lungs, his daily life was filling a sense of melancholy in him. Spending his evenings praying at the small altar until late, and to the point of barely paying attention to anyone, he found himself in a worse state than he ever was, until he reached the breaking point.

One gloomy night, a fight erupted between Wakana and Aiya, the idea of returning to Karakura sounding like a betrayal, she refused to live far away from him. Convinced to be helping him, she was in fact only helping herself, holding him back from his pressing need to find the place where he belonged again, where his past and future awaited. And so, he let go, he packed the mere things he owned and left without looking back. A second class plane ticket, a flophouse in Mainland Japan, the young man was back to square one.

He remained in a small rural town for a time, 10 months with the objective to build a new life from scratch, wandering the narrow streets and the digital alleys in search for a hiring place. In a short span of time, Hekiryuu was juggling between a full time job at a groceries store and his studies in order to get accepted in the college of Karakura.

Following his successful entry at the Karakura College, he lived 2 full years of classes and homework piling up before his eyes never discouraging the young man and his dedication to his ultimate dream in life. Inching closer and closer to his objective as the seasons circled around him, friendships flowering and spreading like sweet alyssums and life events guiding him through as he always did. Daily visits at the monastery, long prayers and numerous offerings, various trips across the mainland coast to prefectural branch offices, and finally, his major and a certificate. Wakana was moving forward like an unstoppable train, he was flowing on the river of his destiny, and the best of it was yet to come.

He had yet to start this new chapter of his life , in the Monastery.

CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE / SITUATIONS
· · ─────── ·· ─────── · ·

How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?

Wakana is an introverted, polite and dedicated young man despite his rough past and family history. If his quiet nature presents him as someone who would recoil at social interactions, you would find yourself surprised at his soft and caring demeanor. Without fail, he would lend a helping hand to whoever is in need, and work on resolving the matter as efficiently as he could. Whether it is a guest, another worker, or benevolent otherworldly entity, his kindness and regards know no bounds.

You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?

Wakana, despite his gentleness, conforms to the rules and intends for them to be respected just as much as he does. Yet, he also is a patient man who, by no means, would raise his voice or show hostility to a guest. He would ask firmly for the visitor to kindly climb off of the buildings, as to respect the sacred ground they are standing on, as well as averting unnecessary injuries to occur. Following failure of compliance, Hekiryuu would reiterate one single time, then proceed to warn the individual that further disobedience would lead to an exclusion from the Shrine grounds.

Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?

Wakana has dedicated half of his lifetime pursuing his dream of becoming a priest, ever since his first day at the Monastery, the path of his future had drawn a clear and straight line, it's edges growing clearer and broader as the years went and brought him closer to his endeavor. The entirety of his college course was centered around this sole and supreme calling, his labor and perseverance pushing him forward, beyond the fear of failure and the doubts. He had looked up to priests and has been raised in this very religion since the first breath he had drawn.

What are the core values of your character? (OPTIONAL - MORE INFO IN FAQ)

Wakana follows the values his religion intended him to follow, as well as those he decided to involve in his morals as he grew older and wiser. He does not believe in all existing forms of violence and does not condone their use under any circumstances. He does not hold attachment to unnecessary material goods, he is a modest man holding onto relentless improvement and sheer honesty. Furthermore, he is a man of love, unearthing beauty in the most subtle details and sharing it to the world around him, his heart may not be as pure as he wished it was, the pain lingering making it challenging to keep a positive eye open at all times, but it is tender and loyal to the people who found their way through.
