What position are you applying for (Maiden or Priest)?
Priest

What is your motivation for applying?
I really enjoy Shintoism and have been learning more about it. I’ve spent countless hours studying and asking shrine maidens and priests questions to better understand it. My main motivation for applying is the enjoyment I get from roleplaying at the shrine whether it’s simple interactions or more involved experiences, I always have fun. I want to continue creating those kinds of memories. So overall, my motivation comes from both the people and the experience.

What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?
The Shinsei Seinaru Monastery is dedicated to the kami Chiharu Yamatsumi. She has influence over the weather, which is why Karakura experiences so much rain, as she is said to be lonely.

Shintoism is a polytheistic religion centered around kami and the belief that they inhabit all things, including animals, objects, and forces of nature. The first kami are known as the Kotoamatsukami, a collective name for the earliest deities born in Takamagahara: Amenominak****hi, Takamimusubi, and Kamimusubi. After them came Umashiashikabihikoji and Amenotokotachi, followed by Izanagi and Izanami, who are among the most important figures in Shinto mythology.

Izanagi and Izanami are considered both siblings and spouses. They are the creator deities responsible for forming the first gods and the islands of Japan. Their first attempt at creation failed, producing the deformed gods Hiruko and Awashima. However, after performing the ritual correctly, they created the Oyashima the Great Eight Islands.

Izanami later died while giving birth to Kagutsuchi. Izanagi traveled to Yomi, the land of the dead, to find her, but discovered her in a decayed and horrifying state. He fled and sealed the entrance to Yomi with a boulder. After returning, he performed a purification ritual (harai), which led to the birth of three important kami: Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu, and Susanoo.

Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, was given Takamagahara to rule. Tsukuyomi, the god of the moon, is often described as male and became her consort. Susanoo, the god of storms, was banished after causing chaos, including destroying Amaterasu’s rice fields and throwing a flayed horse into her weaving hall.

Susanoo later redeemed himself by slaying Yamata no Orochi in exchange for marrying Kushinadahime, the goddess associated with rice, agriculture, love, and family. He also discovered the sword Kusanagi no Tsurugi within the serpent’s tail.

Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi eventually fell out after Tsukuyomi killed Ukemochi, the goddess of food, leading to the separation of night and day.

Other important kami include Hachiman, Inari Okami, and Ebisu the god of fishermen, who originated as one of Izanagi and Izanami’s failed children.

Ritual practices include shinsen (food offerings to the kami), which are later eaten to promote unity, and harai, a general term for purification rituals using water or salt. Misogi is a specific form of purification performed in natural bodies of water, such as the shrine’s hot springs. The temizuya at the shrine entrance is used for cleansing before making offerings.

The first monastery burned down in 1176. A second was built soon after but also burned down during the Azuchi-Momoyama period in 1228. The current monastery, the third, was constructed in 1617 and still stands today, hidden behind Karakura’s mountains.

Backstory
Tekkyou was born deaf in Iceland and raised by a single mother, with his father rarely present in his life. From a young age, he endured constant bullying because of the way he spoke and the hearing aid he wore. Those early hardships did not break him if anything, they forged a quiet resilience within him, strengthening his resolve and shaping the man he would become.

In search of a fresh start and a chance to build meaningful connections, Tekkyou eventually made his way to Karakura. To him, the city represented more than just a new place it was an opportunity to rebuild his life and find people who would accept him for who he truly was.

However, Karakura did not offer peace so easily. Drawn into the life of a gang, Tekkyou found himself surrounded by violence and constant danger. During this time, he survived a lightning strike an event that left him completely deaf in his left ear and carved a jagged scar across his body. The streets left their marks on him as well; he was stabbed once in the kidney, once in the liver, and twice in the shoulder.

One of the most haunting moments he carries with him is witnessing his former girlfriend being stabbed before his eyes. Though she survived, the memory remains deeply etched into his heart.

Eventually, Tekkyou began to distance himself from that life, finding solace in Shintoism. He immersed himself in learning about the kami and the natural balance they represent. Through this spiritual journey, he began to find a sense of clarity and motivation that had long been missing from his life.

Now, Tekkyou continues his journey in search of belonging. He strives each day to grow stronger not just physically, but mentally and spiritually so that he may protect those he cares about. Though he is deaf, he refuses to let it define him. Instead, he stands determined to prove to the people of Karakura that true strength is not measured by one’s hearing, but by the depth of one’s heart, the strength of their determination, and the loyalty they carry within.

CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE / SITUATIONS

How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?
Guest-
He glanced over at them, a gentle warmth settling into his expression as he lowered himself into a slow, respectful bow, his hair falling forward and partially covering his face, revealing his hearing aid. He began to rise with calm, controlled movement, his eyes meeting theirs bright with quiet joy his presence carrying both peace and quiet strength. “Hello! Welcome to the Karakura Monastery. If you need anything, don’t be afraid to ask!” His voice was inviting and steady. A warm smile spread across his face as he dipped into another deep bow, lingering just a moment longer before straightening, that same kindness still shining in his eyes.

Staff-
He glanced around, soon noticing the other shrine maidens and priests nearby. His freshly curled hair caught the light as he turned toward them, a soft, peaceful expression settling over his face. Bringing his hands together, he offered a deep, respectful bow, lingering for a brief moment before rising with quiet grace. As he straightened, his eyes met theirs bright and full of warmth his smile carrying both joy and a hint of playful energy. “Oh, hey everyone! I hope you all slept well,” he said, his tone light yet inviting. “I’m thinking of heading up to clean the hill and maybe take a walk through the forest, if any of you feel like joining.” A soft laugh slipped from him, calm and genuine, as his smile widened just a touch. There was an easy balance in his presence serene and grounded, yet lively enough to lift the mood of those around him.

You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?
"He stood quietly for a while, taking in the shrine grounds and the stillness that came with it. The soft sounds of the area, the air, the familiar feeling of the place it all kept him at ease. His gaze wandered without much thought, just enjoying the moment until something caught his attention. Movement above. His eyes lifted, narrowing slightly as he noticed someone jumping across the shrine buildings, their footsteps echoing where they shouldn’t be. The shift in him was immediate. The calm didn’t disappear, but it tightened focused. Without a word, he moved. His steps were quick and controlled, closing the distance in seconds. When he stopped below them, his posture straightened, presence firm and grounded, no longer just relaxed. “Hey… sorry,” he called up, his voice calm but carrying a clear weight now. “What you’re doing is really disrespectful to the shrine. Could you get down, please?” His expression stayed serious, eyes locked onto them but even then, a small, restrained smile remained. It wasn’t as easygoing as before, but it was still there, showing he wasn’t looking for trouble… just respect."

Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?
Tekkyou didn’t choose this path because of tradition or anything like that. It came from everything he’s been through. After living a life full of violence in Karakura, he got tired of it tired of people getting hurt, tired of thinking he was protecting others when, in reality, he was just making things worse. Seeing people around him suffer, especially the ones he cared about, made him realize he needed to change. That’s when he found Shintoism. Learning about the kami and the balance they represent gave him something he never really had before peace. It helped him slow down, think, and actually understand himself a bit more. Now, he wants to protect people in a different way. Not through fighting, not through violence but by being someone others can rely on. Someone who can offer a place where people feel safe, where they can breathe, reflect, and start over if they need to. At the end of it all, Tekkyou just wants balance. He wants to prove that no matter what someone’s been through, they can still choose to be better and become something more.
.

What are the core values of your character? (OPTIONAL - MORE INFO IN FAQ)
Tekkyou is someone who puts his all into what he does. When he commits to something, he means it. He’s hardworking and dedicated, but he’s not all serious he’s got a weird, playful side to him that shows pretty often. He jokes around, laughs easily, and doesn’t mind being a little different if it makes people around him more comfortable. At his core, though, he’s loyal. If he cares about you, he’s sticking by your side no matter what. He tries his best to be there for people, to support them, and to treat everyone with kindness, even if they don’t always return it.
