Have you ever been exploring the Shōtengai and stumbled your way into this market?
It looks pretty interesting, doesn't it? When looking up what an actual shōtengai looks like in real life, you see pictures more similar to this, with its close together shops in a tunnel shape with a glass roof on top - which is honestly really cool!! Hell yeah builders!! I think it's a shame we don't use it for something. While it's a lovely piece of decoration to the area, it doesn't have much purpose beyond looks.
Though it's honestly too small of an area to turn into an actual player run shop area + likely wouldn't offer much in terms of things to buy that are different from any other shop like this (and with already having named areas, not much freedom for it to be added to the shopkeeper faction!) I think it'd be nice to turn it into something similar to Mori's Mini Mart, except a 24/7 open version!
Why would we need another shop like that if we already have Mori???
The mart isn't open all the time, which is realistic, yes, but INCREDIBLY annoying when I'm low on ingredients or needed to quickly grab something. It's also on the other side of the map, which is a quick run for any average character, but some who play characters that don't sprint everywhere or have health issues that slow them down it can take so long to walk across the entire map. . . for those who want to make the shopping trip an IC experience rather than suddenly having those ingredients from OOC shopping runs (slice of life!! I know a lot of people tend to find it boring, but for those who do like it, this would be nice!) quickly stopping by the nearby market for your area is nicer than running to the only grocery shop in town (not counting player run ones).
Adding a shop for Business Alley dwellers and a market for Shōtengai dwellers feels more like a separate city district feeling - or maybe that's just my take on it.
Making it NPC run.
My knowledge on the plugins and how they work isn't great, in fact none at all really, it doesn't seem like a particularly difficult thing to implement.
While making it similar to how the furniture and vehicle shop run, with someone behind the counter that shows an array of items to buy, would be fun for the realism aspect, I'm not sure how hard this would be to do!
Likely something easier would simply be adding the clickable signs, just like how Mori's and most other NPC run shops work. This would be putting the signs in those specific areas, like
Bacon or other meat goods sold at Mori Butchers!
Fish sold at this fish shop! (Though considering how fish is only really gained from fishing and there isn't much point to buying it, this isn't as important. Maybe a second location to sell it even instead, or just buy a fishing rod.)
Rice, flour, sugar, seaweed, bread, etc. sold at this Family Grocer!
Fruits and vegetables sold at this Seed to Plate place!
Milk, butter, and cheese sold at Daiki's Dairy!
And things like spatulas, pans, and teapots sold at Chiyo Cookware!
All of these are things you can get at Mori's Mini Mart, and prices wouldn't have to change! It'd simply be another area to get these goods that could be closer than the mart or even just open at the time. I didn't include things like pasta, steak, or chicken since those are all player run store items and the goal here isn't to take away from their stock, just add more options to get those regular items.
How will this benefit the server and community?:
Yes, this isn't a huge major interesting suggestion, and overall it's not a huge deal and doesn't affect anything if it's not implemented. But I think it'd be nice to give this tiny area of the Shōtengai an actual use. Adding both realism and another way to stock up on those ingredients you might be low on. (Except. . for. . some people I know with too many eggs. . . . please share.)
