Why are Teachers so important to SchoolRP?:
Teachers are the backbone of SRP. Sure, students are the main act but without teachers, it’s just a bunch of kids milling around with no direction. Teachers add structure and a little real-life flavour, creating classes that aren’t just educational but also fun and engaging with the HS player base. They’re the lifeblood of the entire SRP experience, the ones who turn just another school day into something you can’t wait to log in for. Without them, the school is just a nice building, a set piece. Plus, they’re role models- giving players that nudge, sometimes a shove towards character growth and respect. A good teacher brings unpredictability to classes- a pop quiz here and a science experiment there which makes every single class feel like anything could happen and that’s the fun in the teacher faction!
Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you may lose your role?: Yes

In-Character Section
What's your character's full name?:
She settled into the chair across from her interviewer, folding her hands neatly in her lap. She took in a short, nervous breath before a shy smile brightened her face.
“Hello! I’m Mrs. Kanae Kageyama.” Her silky, sweet voice filled the room.
What is your character's nationality?:
She sat up a little straighter, was she nervous? Probably. Nonetheless, her smile never faded.
“I’m Japanese, born and raised. Temples, gardens and beautiful seasonal festivals- I was always drawn to the arts. I feel that our culture has this… This incredible sense of harmony and attention to detail- things I try to bring into my own teaching.”
There were crow’s feet around the outer corners of her eyes.
What is your preferred subject to teach?:
Her eyes lit up, yeah, she was truly passionate in what she did.
“I’ll be teaching art,” she explained, “I want my students to feel like they can experiment and make mistakes, to learn that there’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ in creativity.”
Describe your character:
Who is Kanae Kageyama? Let’s keep this short, shall we? Attention-grabbing with her distinct and striking look. Her hair split into two colours, tied in two neat buns. Her face is gentle yet… Expressive, framed by the waves of her hair, with large, warm brown eyes. Her features harmonised together, despite her age, she still looked like she was in her early 30’s! What’s the secret behind that plump skin? I guess we’ll never know. Standing at a rather average height of 5’5”, not too tall, not too short. An approachable stature is what that is. Come on, it’s only right to come say hi to the pretty lady, yes?
What is your character's outlook on students and co-workers?:
Kanae views both students and co-workers through supervision and respect. She believes that every student is capable of development and creativity and her role as a teacher is to nurture that potential in an encouraging environment! She’s patient, understanding that everyone learns at their own pace and she strives to make her classroom a place where students feel comfortable expressing themselves through art, free of judgement.
On the other hand, when it comes to her co-workers, Kanae values mutual respect. She believes that a supportive work environment is key to success! She’s always ready to lend a helping hand or offer encouragement when needed, like the mother she is. Her approach is usually gentle but firm when necessary. Aiming to maintain harmonious relationships with everyone around her, colleague or not.
What is your character's motivation for teaching?:
Growing up in a rural town where art was more of a pastime than a profession, young Kanae would often wander through the local markets, taking in the knotty designs of hand-painted pottery, the vibrant colours of textiles, and the GORGEOUS brushstrokes of traditional calligraphy! Her parents, both artists in their own right, encouraged her to pursue art from a young age, but it wasn’t until she moved to Kyoto for her studies that she truly found her passion for teaching.
Kanae's family had always been close-knit and though she was shy by nature, her love for art brought her closer to her peers during her university years! She saw how creative expression helped her classmates open up and express their emotions, which inspired her to pursue a career in teaching.
Now, even as a teacher, she carries herself with the same calm and nurturing bearing she had as a student, believing that every single person has the potential to find their own voice through art- if they’re given the right guidance and support, just as she did, of course. Though she’s still quiet and reserved in many ways, her heart is full of passion for her student’s growth. And it steers everything she does in the classroom.

Roleplay Scenarios
A student in class is struggling to understand the content, what would your character do?:
Kanae would approach the student with patience and a butt-load of empathy. She understands that everyone learns at their own pace and that some concepts might take time to click, just like how she struggled immensely when she was a student herself. Instead of reprimanding or rushing the student, she would take a step back, offering encouragement and breaking the content down into smaller, more manageable pieces! She would likely ask the student how they’re feeling about the material and try to identify what part of the process is causing confusion.
“Hey, sweetie, I can see you're struggling a little- and that’s okay, it happens to all of us! Let’s take a moment… And break this down together, alright? It helps to take a step back and look at the basics first." She gently points to the portion of the canvas they’re working on. "What part of this is confusing you? Remember, there’s no wrong way to approach it.”
A student is continuously being disruptive in class, talking out of turn, and making jokes with classmates. What would your character do?:
Kanae would likely address the disruptive behaviour calmly. Instead of raising her voice, she would approach the student, reminding them of the classroom expectations and encouraging them to focus on their work. She would likely use humour or kindness to re-engage the student, ensuring they don’t feel singled out but are reminded of their responsibilities in a rather non-confrontational way. If the behaviour continues, Kanae would privately speak with the student after class to get to the root of the issue.
“Alright, I know it’s easy to get distracted, but remember, we’re all here to learn. How about we take a short break from the jokes and focus for a little while? I promise, there will be plenty of time for fun once we get through this part.” She placed a hand on the student’s desk, her voice was firm but her face said otherwise. “I’m sure you’ve got some great ideas- but you just need to really channel them into your work, okay?”
Provide at least 2 interactive class ideas related to your preferred subject:
OUT OF THE BOX!!
An activity where students are given a set of unconventional materials (could be anything, from recycled objects, fabric scraps, or even natural items like leaves or rocks) and challenged to create a piece of art! The goal would be to push students to think creatively and move beyond traditional art supplies. At the end of the session, students are expected to present their pieces to the class.
NOT EVERYONE CAN DRAW… BUT THAT’S OKAY!
An "art gallery" in the classroom where students display their individual works of art based on a specific theme or project! The twist would be that each student writes a short, anonymous description of their piece- explaining their inspiration, feelings, or thought process behind it, any of the three, and place it next to their artwork.
