Backstory:
Yoru Kumasaki’s life has been marked by a profound silence, both literally and figuratively. Born in the quiet town of Karakura, Yoru had once known the warmth of a family—until the devastating car accident that took both his parents when he was eleven. The loss left him alone, a child adrift in a world of unspoken pain.
His aunt, who reluctantly took him in, was a woman broken by her own demons. She was harsh, her temper unpredictable, and she harbored a cruel streak that manifested in ways unimaginable. In an attempt to control him, she would force Yoru to swallow her lit cigarettes, punishing him with the smoke and fire that scarred his body and soul. This cruel ritual went on for years, leaving his tongue horribly burned and damaged, until the boy could no longer speak at all. His voice, once filled with innocent curiosity, was swallowed by the agony of his trauma, leaving him mute.
Physically, Yoru is an imposing figure—tall, broad-shouldered, and athletic. His maroon hair, often messy from his restless nature, and his redwood eyes, which seem to hold the weight of the world, give him a striking, intimidating appearance. But beneath this façade lies a young man who has learned to communicate in silence, using gestures and written words to express the depths of his thoughts.
Despite the neglect and torment of his childhood, Yoru’s resolve has remained unbroken. He has grown strong, using the pain as fuel for his body and mind. He keeps his distance from others, not trusting easily, but those who take the time to look past his stoic exterior find someone who longs for connection, though he is afraid of the vulnerability it might bring.
Now, at 16, Yoru is still searching for his place in the world. Though the shadows of his past linger, he holds onto the hope that someday he can find peace—perhaps even the strength to reclaim his voice, in a world that has long silenced him.
