Mentions of physical & verbal/emotional abuse, death, bullying, cat dies :( (not very descriptive dw, mangled is as worse as it gets), adultery, panic attacks and alcohol use
Background
Although his parents are both of Japanese nationality, Yuko was born and raised in Dresden Germany. Yuko was often bullied for his asian features in elementary school, he endured the bullying though it eventually became physical and earned Yuko serious wounds. One day, Yuko decided to fight back, of course he failed because he had never fought before but once he raised his fist and found out he had the power to provoke fear with that simple action was when he had become addicted to it. Later on, sometime in middle school, Yuko found himself involved in gang life and fought side by side with young delinquents like himself. He lived for the scuffle and the adrenaline. He threw himself at any fight on impulse like the adrenaline junkie he was. He had picked up plenty of skills and real combat experience, though one incident had haunted him forever.
Yuko had a cat named Abbo, who alternated between an indoor-outdoor cat. He found Abbo when he was in elementary school, alone and sick near the side of the road and managed to bribe his parents to let him take it in. One day Yuko was on his way back home from school when he had found a few other kids surrounding something, he naturally gravitated towards the commotion. When he had laid his eyes on the object that the kids swarmed he was met with the dead, disfigured body of his cat, Abbo. Yuko immediately screamed and rushed towards the bloody mess while the kids ran off. Yuko found himself having a panic attack right there and sat near the body until an old woman came up to him. She had succeeded in calming Yuko down and questioned him on what happened. The old woman promised to give Abbo a grave.
A few days later he met the older woman again where she had given him Abbo’s black collar that had a small bell on it. She had taken Abbo’s corpse to a nearby pond and had asked Yuko to help make Abbo a gravestone which Yuko immediately complied to. They had visited the pond together to place Abbo’s gravestone above a lump of dirt that held his mangled, decomposing body under it.
The gravestone read:
Abbo
200x-20xx
*A small engraving of a stick figure and a cat standing side by side*
“Forever loved”
From that day on he had decided to wear Abbo’s collar, that was the only time Yuko had felt sentimental and still continues to wear it out of love for his chubby tabby cat, Abbo.
Of course peace didn’t come for Yuko after that. He held anger and resentment for the people who had caused this. This was unfamiliar for Yuko, who was never one to hold any form of grudge or resentment towards anyone, even if someone hurt him he’d blame himself for causing whatever came his way. Once he found the people who did the deed he had jumped them with a team he had gathered from the gang he was in at the time. They had beaten them to pulps, though once Yuko brought out a knife this team had fled, not wanting to be involved. He gave a few of the kids shallow stab wounds that they survived but police had come before he could do anything else. He was in Juvie for a year.
Home life was no better for him than elementary school or middle school had been. His father was a stressed business man who was at work the majority of the time while his mother would commit adultery with Yuko in the room next to her. His mother would often bribe Yuko to keep his mouth shut with money which he spent on video games, cat toys, alcohol, snacks, cigarettes, and cat treats. Along with her bribery and lack of loyalty she would often verbally abuse Yuko, making fun of his image or getting violent and breaking things (though rarely laying a hand on him).
When his father was home from work he was physically abused, his father took out his stress and frustration on him through hits, cigarette burns, and kicks. Unless he was hurting Yuko he ignored him, watching TV and drinking.
Naturally, the day came where his mother and father split up. When Yuko was fourteen his father had caught his mother cheating on him. after many physical altercations and yelling he had thrown her out telling her to take her delinquent son with her.
His mother took him with him back to Japan as she couldn’t afford to stay in Germany and she didn’t have a citizenship. This is when he had moved to Karakura.
[TW MENTIONS OF MENTAL ILLNESS]
Yuko developed derealisation - depresonalisation disorder due to his childhood trauma- as a way to cope. During these episodes he becomes impulsive and looks for trouble more so than he already does, due to this feeling of not being real (Though this also causes him to panic). Once he gets out of an episode he is often met with a panic attack due to regret and guilt which often results in self harm.
He also has borderline personality disorder, adding to his impulsivity. He is reckless and changes his emotions towards others and situations far too frequently. While he is extremely guarded and actively attempts to push others away emotionally and physically, once he becomes comfortable with another he will become over attached. He begins to show his intense fear of abandonment and possessiveness through out of pocket actions and words.
Traits
Yuko is a very impulsive person, a thrill seeker, an adrenaline junkie, etc. He seeks out trouble, the fight, the escape, all of it. This often results in him getting in trouble. He jumps into things without a second thought. He is a snarky character who enjoys seeing peoples reactions, thrives on them even. He likes teasing people and humiliating them for his own enjoyment.
Yuko is rarely ever emotional and always has a guard up. If he finds someone he likes he just becomes a dog. Yuko’s loyal and obedient for those he chooses to like and care about and would literally take multiple bullets and stab wounds for them due to his lack of value he puts on his own life. When he decides he likes someone he becomes obsessive and possessive in a quiet way.
He has little care for other’s unless, of course, unless he chooses to or it bothers him personally (which is very very rare). He has no thought about the consequences his actions bring for others and could care less about how they feel. Although contradictory, Yuko seeks confirmation, approval, and praise. He finds comfort in the acknowledgment that whatever he did was good or that he himself was good. He wants others to have some form of opinion on him, he cares far too much about what others think about him.
Yuko returns what other's give to him. If another person is nice to him he'll do the same. Unless he finds a reason to dislike that person he'll treat others as they treat him. (Unless he feels like being an asshole lmao)
Yuko believes in his inferiority. He see's himself as "bad" in terms of societal views. He tends to look up to other's who portray themselves in a "good" light even if they've done bad things. He think's he's below everyone and that contributes towards his lack of care towards others, if he's already on rock bottom he can't sink farther, right?
Even though it's stated that Yuko is rarely emotional, he craves emotion and depth. He wants to be emotional but his ego and tough person doesn't allow him to. Yuko has moments of opening up with people he feels he might have a strong connections to in the future, or he plans to put that person in his future.
