Backstory:
When Zhou Yu was young, 11 or so, he lived with his parents, and his younger brother, Kan Yu (8yo). Their family owned a small restaurant in an extremely backwater, poor town, unnamed and un-plotted on the map. They could never afford much, but they got by with what they had. Zhou Yu's father, Cheng Yu loved sunglasses, although he could ever really own a single pair, not only that, considering how poor the town was, it was very rare for any shop to be selling something as luxurious as sunglasses. One day, about a week before Cheng Yu's birthday, Zhou Yu and his brother snuck out with savings they had made from deliveries and odd jobs that they had done around the town, leaving only a note, to go and purchase a pair of sunglasses for their father. They caught a ride on a delivery truck to one of the larger cities. They arrived at one of the big cities that they had always heard about, amazed by the technological advancement that was everywhere. One notable memory Zhou Yu had was passing by a window that showed the world of the performance orientated culinary arts. He watched in awe as a chef pull tricks that he had never thought about, noticeably a certain fire breathing trick. Zhou Yu would have loved to learn the tricks, however he was not in the city to learn tricks while cooking, he was there to purchase sunglasses as a birthday gift for his father. The two kids strolled into the the shop, placing all their savings on the counter. Usually the shop keeper would have kicked out anyone looking so dirty, however he had children at home, and sympathized with the children, asking them if they were hungry, and if they were sure they wanted to spend their money on something that wouldn't feed them. Zhou Yu and Kan Yu only shook their head, asking for a pair of sunglasses. After acquiring their gift, they hurried back to the same delivery truck that was going back to their nameless town, and hitched a ride on it once more. When they got back, their parents were waiting. the reunion was emotional, as the mother already had begun weeping at the sight of their sons, alive and well, having worried for so long, losing sleep as night. The father hugged both of his sons tightly, as he scolded them for sneaking out. Zhou Yu handed his father the gift that they had been trying to get for him the next day, being a pair of sunglasses. The father smiled, putting them on and laughing, before taking out his original pair of sunglasses, and put them on Zhou Yu. Through the initial protests, he said "Those old things!? I don't need them anymore, after all- I got new ones!". A couple years later, after Zhou Yu's younger sister was born, their parents had died in a car accident, leaving Zhou Yu and his siblings alone. They buried their father with the birthday gift they had gotten him, as Zhou Yu stared on, wondering how he was going to ensure that the 3 of them survive. While his siblings were still grieving, he learnt the recipes from his parent's recipe books, and the basics of cooking. He had a natural talent for cooking, however, even with talent, he could only really start cooking after 2 or so weeks, on which they relied on the kindness of the towns folk. A year passed, and Zhou Yu had reached a professional level of cooking, making enough money to support his 2 siblings. Eventually, their family grew, as homeless kids were many in this poor town of theirs, and zhou yu invited them into his home, as he and his siblings know the feeling of starving and barely scraping by, eventually his family grew to a family of 12. Eventually Zhou Yu was able to make enough stable income to raise them all, but one day, his blood related sister contracted a sickness, and they did not have the money to purchase the medicine required to save her. Regrettably, the only way Zhou Yu had to get a large amount of money in a short amount of time, was to sell his organs. He sold his kidney illegally, however that only could allow them to afford a single bottle of the medicine. They needed just one more dose, so he sold part of his liver as well. The sister had begun to get healthier, however the 10 other siblings protested loudly. Zhou Yu eventually had to keep them from grabbing knives to gouge their own organs out to try and help out the household. Zhou Yu's cooking had begun to reach levels of fame that tourism in the town began to rise exponentially. By then Zhou Yu had enough money to support his 11 other siblings. Realizing that Zhou Yu could do so much more than just cook, or even just improve his cooking, he attended Karakura, leaving his siblings in the care of a trusted friend. However, the friend had a large job opportunity, and Zhou Yu did not wish to hold him back from this opportunity, so he returned back to his home town, planning to cease his education indefinitely. However, Kan yu, the second eldest of the family, had been learning the culinary arts himself, and urged Zhou Yu to continue his education. Zhou Yu cried tears of joy that day, as his little brother, that he had been raising for so long, had seemed so grown up.
