What position are you applying for (Maiden or Priest)?
Maiden
What is your motivation for applying?
Recently, I have got myself more indulged in Japanese folklore and culture.
When I saw the opportunity to join the Shrine faction, it felt like a perfect way to deepen my knowledge on this topic.
I also see the opportunity to expand my roleplay to a wider variety of people. Which I believe will be incredibly rewarding.
What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?
Shintoism, translated as "the way of the gods," is a deeply spiritual, nature-centered belief system.
My current understanding includes:
The Kami: spirits or deities that inhabit the world. They reside in nature and even concepts.
Kami are not defined by concepts of absolute "good" or "evil", they are multifaceted forces that must be respected.
Worshipping and showing gratitude to the Kami is primarily done through structured offerings (Shinsen) and prayers.
Ritual cleansing (Harae or Misogi) is a cornerstone of Shintoism, meant to wash away spiritual impurities (Kegare) to maintain harmony.
I am absolutely willing to learn more about it, because it is truly interesting for me.

Backstory
The Hardship
Akari grew up in a struggling family, the eldest of five siblings. With both her mother and father constantly away on business trips, the weight of responsibility fell squarely on her shoulders from an early age. She had no other choice but to take care of her younger brothers and sisters, each with their own quirks, needs, and personalities.
Yuki, the quiet one, often clung to her side. Riku, ever rebellious, constantly tested her patience. Kaito, the daydreamer, always lost in his own world. Little Hana idolized Akari, calling her "Mama Aki."
To keep food on the table and the lights on, Akari worked relentlessly, day and night, juggling part-time jobs between and after school. Her grades began to slip, how could they not, when she stayed up through the night working and barely got more than a few hours of sleep before class? The constant stress, pressure, and creeping depression eventually took their toll. Desperate for something to dull the pain, Akari turned to drinking. At first, it was just a little to take the edge off, but it spiraled quickly, and one night, it nearly cost her her life.

The Breakpoint
She was found passed out, dangerously intoxicated, and was rushed to the hospital. It was there she met a compassionate paramedic who didn’t just patch her up, she talked to her, listened, and shared her own story of hardship.
Akari never forgot her words: "You can't carry the world on your back if you're too broken to walk."
That moment changed everything.
Determined to reclaim control, Akari sought treatment, quit drinking, and began setting boundaries for herself. She structured her days carefully, balancing school, work, and rest, learning not to overwork her body or her mind. She realized she didn’t have to do everything perfectly; she just had to keep trying.
One night, while working a night shift at a local shop, Akari noticed flashing lights and loud shouting from across the street. It was the corner store in her hometown. Something felt wrong. She ran across the road and kicked open the door, only to see her two siblings, Yuki and Hana, huddled behind a shelf. Armed robbers were threatening the cashier.
Her heart stopped. Then it caught fire.
One of the thugs had noticed her siblings and began mocking them, shoving them around for fun. Akari’s fear turned to rage. Without thinking of her own safety, she threw herself into the fray, tackling one of the assailants. The others jumped on her, and a brutal fight broke out. It was three against one, but Akari didn’t back down. She took punches, even a few hits from a baseball bat, but she got back up. Every time. She refused to fall, not while her siblings' lives were on the line.
The chaos gave the shopkeeper just enough time to call the police. When they arrived minutes later, they found Akari still fighting, bloodied but standing, shielding her siblings. The thugs were arrested, and Akari received first aid from officers before the paramedics arrived. True to form, she insisted on checking on everyone else, her siblings, the cashier, even one of the trembling bystanders, before allowing herself to be taken into the ambulance.
From that day on, her siblings saw her as more than a sister, they saw her as their protector. Their real mother in all but name.

The Change
Ever since arriving to Karakura for studies, Akari has been falling on hard times. Years went by and she had witnessed several gangs and criminals. She wanted to change that, so she had applied for the KPD, multiple times, and once for the EMS. Unfortunately, this did not yield any results, as she was always rejected. This, along with a small nudge from a friend of hers, led her to join into a gang. This gang was disguised as a vigilante group making sure to disrupt other gangs and make it easier for the KPD to destroy them for good (or for them to fall apart on their own.) The gang was short-lived and soon fell apart. Akari had realized that this act was still against the law, and started to repent right away.

The Repent
Akari felt such guilt that when she met her at that time girlfriend's Parents for the first time, she had to confess. Then she had promised she would never ever do anything bad ever again. From that day forward, Akari started to actively look for jobs again, reinvigorated and now more ready than ever to set things straight...

CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE / SITUATIONS
How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?
Akari always strives to be approachable. If someone needs a hand, Akari is ready to help.
Ever since this old-timer had to raise her younger siblings, she became deeply accustomed to managing cleaning duties and looking after the well-being of others.
Whether interacting with esteemed guests or working alongside fellow staff, Akari maintains a helpful and welcoming presence on the sacred grounds.
You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?
Akari may seem relaxed and quite carefree, but disrespect is something this old-timer will not tolerate.
When someone chooses to show blatant disrespect to a person or a sacred building, this old-timer gets rather cross and strict.
Akari will confront the individual directly and challenge them to cease their disruptive behavior immediately.
She would explain how disrespectful these actions are and the possible consequences should they continue.
If they refuse to comply or continue with these disruptions, this old-timer would notify the senior priests and the KPD, to have them removed from the shrine grounds.
Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?
Akari has been in Karakura for a while now, and this old-timer has walked through some rather unpleasant scenarios.
In the past, Akari unfortunately experienced a bit of unknown-at-the-time delinquency. The moment this old-timer realized the reality of the situation, drastic measures were taken to ensure this old-timer would never become like those thugs. Now, Akari wants to atone for previous misdeeds and start anew on a completely clean page. Perhaps, through this sacred path, Akari will also achieve a much-needed, better inner peace.
What are the core values of your character? (OPTIONAL - MORE INFO IN FAQ)
Honesty: Akari absolutely hates lies and deceit. To Akari, truthfulness is the ultimate sign of respect toward another person. Speaking the truth, even in the most difficult of times, is what Akari considers true bravery.
Diligence: This old-timer firmly believes that hard work and physical service cleanse the soul. It is a mindset Akari carries over from years of providing for a family, and one that Akari intends to apply to every chore around the shrine.
