What position are you applying for (Maiden or Priest)?
Priest

What is your motivation for applying?
For about 3 months, I've only heard good things from my friend who has been in the shrine for, I think, around 5-6 months. I'm always looking forward to hearing about the cool roleplays he does while being part of the shrine, and I've been interested in joining for about half a year because of all the good word I've heard and the different roleplays I would experience.

What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?
I fear, as of know i'm not too aware of much about it, but I am completely willing to learn about it.

IC INFORMATION

Character Full Name:
He had a gentle smile as he placed his phone onto his lap, typing into it rather quickly as he played from his TTS app, "Hi there, I'm Jayde Dahl, but just call me Jay for short."

Character Title:

His brow arches at the question as he slowly types on his phone, seeming a little confused. You'd hear from his TTS app: "I mean, really, anything to be fair with you, but Mr. Dahl works," giving a subtle, awkward laugh

Character Age:
The little tapping from his phone was clearly audible, though he typed at a rather quick speed: "Currently I'm 22... I know I look rather young for my age, but I can assure you it's true...!" giggling softly under his breath as he then cleared his throat, worried he may come off informal.

Character Marital Status:
He'd looked almost shocked by the question, he'd leaned a little back into his chair before he pressed play on his TTS app: "Nope! Not married and don't really plan to be anytime soon," giving a confident smile, his eyes filled with hope.

Character Nationality
He would give a playful chuckle as his head tilted, little taps of his phone creating an almost little melody, humming while he typed, as he loved being asked this question: "I bet you can't guess..." flashing a cheeky smile as you can hear from his phone his delayed response, "Proud Norwegian! Born and raised there since I was around the age of 15, beautiful place, I definitely recommend for a vacation." his demeanor had seemingly finally eased down, as he felt like the interview was going well.

Degree/Certifications (If applicable):
gave an awkward smile as his shoulders tensed up to his ears, "Only a high school diploma! The idea of me going to college at the time didn't really seem to appeal to me... is that bad...?" giving a short snort as he shook his head, letting his shoulders relax back to how they were before

Backstory
Jayde was born in a small area of Norway called “Grünerløkka”. In the Dahl household, comfort wasn’t an option. Fights were common in the Dahl household, rarely with words. It was the only way anyone could be heard.. His parents treated Jayde and his siblings harshly. As time passed, Jayde’s siblings would even begin to mirror the same treatment and actions that had been displayed throughout their lives, meanwhile, Jayde was the only sibling who was capable of breaking the cycle.
His parents' Norwegian blood ran throughout the family with their strong genetics, like their height, hair, and even accents, which Jayde, along with all of his siblings, inherited. Jayde, in particular, HATED how he inherited these traits, already feeling like he stood out enough, he would be the tallest in the family. Often finding himself 1789493798485.pngcomparing himself to other kids his age, wondering why he’d already tower over them while they had just begun to grow into themselves. He couldn't stand how much he felt like he’d always be judged or watched. As if his troubles couldn’t get worse, Jayde ended up getting diagnosed with something called “Vocal Cord Paresis,” which resulted in him being restricted from speaking properly. He would find himself only being able to make a hiss of a breath whenever he tried to speak a single sentence. The more that he tried to speak, would result in an abrupt coughing fit would start up. The use of his voice brought more pain than pleasure, so he had given up on speaking and turned to using a phone as a new form of communicating.
Because of all of Jayde’s traits, he was basically forced to deal with people’s assumptions and expectations towards him. Some people mistook his height for meaning that he had to be tough or at least be athletic. Others would constantly mock Jayde for how much he stuck out, even affecting the relationships he had with people because of it. His friends would use him as a form of a shield in fights, and teachers would single him out for sports teams that he had very little interest in, and strangers would constantly treat him as older than he was. It was seen as ‘rare’ for people to see Jayde as more than an abnormal junkie’s kid. The constant disconnect made him keep people at a distance, struggling to trust anyone who’d try to get closer to him for fear that they wouldn’t bother to look past just his appearance.
Once Jayde turned 15, it was his breaking point. He knew he couldn’t keep living in the environment that he had been growing up in, so he turned to the only person who he knew would help him, his uncle. His uncle helped buy him a plane ticket to Karakura so he could get as far away as possible from his household and hopefully build a better future than he’d always thought he would have. It definitely was one of the hardest decisions he had ever made, but he knew it was going to be the right choice in the long run.
Now Jayde still lives in Karakura, in much healthier and happier condition than he was back in Norway. Finally comfortable calling people his friends and even family. Though still not able to speak, his presence speaks for itself louder than he will ever be able to. Still feeling the eyes are always on him as he stuck out in public, he’s learned to carry it quietly and slowly gained confidence against the insecurities that he allowed to weigh him down for almost his whole life instead of letting it be his disadvantage.

CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE / SITUATIONS

How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?
Guests
Staff
As he observed the guest for a while from afar, he'd decide to approach them, offering a gentle smile as he tapped on his phone quickly. "Hello there, welcome..! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!" humming as he tilted his head slightly to his left before gracefully walking off
He'd look around the place, admiring the view as he noticed the other maidens and priests. He would approach one of them with a kind smile, as you could hear the soft taps from his phone before he pressed the speaker. "Hi! I hope you're doing lovely today. I was planning on going to manage the garden, would you care to come along so we could work on it together?" trying his best to give off an inviting demeanor before taking his leave towards the garden.

You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?
As Jay walks around the shrine, admiring the beautifully kept flowers and plants, the distinct talking from others nearby, taking in breaths of the smoky scent of the incense and fresh air. While he was taking a stroll around his eyes would catch movement ontop of the roof of one of the buildings, tilting his head curiously he would observe the individual with an arched brow, wondering what the guest's intention was, taking a moment to give himself a breath before calmly approaching them, stopping towards the front of the entrance of the building as he bended his head to look up all the way, clearing his throat to catch the guests attention before whispering into his phone, giving a second for his words to type out automatically on his screen before pressing the speaker button, "uhm... do you mind getting down from there, please? I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself " his eye gave an instinctive twitch as he brought his phone to his mouth again, giving a moment before lifting his phone in the air for the guest to hear better. "I'm not really sure what you're doing up there, but it's quite disrespectful, and I would appreciate it if you could stop..." resting his hands on his sides as he awaits the guest to give their response.

Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?
Growing up with not the best role models, as well as harsh relationships, Jay has been put through the worst side of life by his abusive family. He thought he could easily get away, but once he began to live in Karakura, he soon realized that it wouldn't be easy to escape his violent lifestyle. Though being completely against any form of violence, by his second year living in Japan, he found himself surrounded by not the best influences. Often getting thrown into fights and even to the point of getting stabbed and having his hand cut off, he finally put his foot down. He couldn't stand how he was living his life. This is when Jay began to become serious about being pacifistic; he'd start reading about Shintoism. Jay had found out what it was from his closest friend, basically a brother to him, "Tekkyou". He'd share everything he knew about Shintoism with Jay, which only made his interest in it grow drastically.
Jay wishes to enlighten himself and others by learning that you don't have to fight or show violence to get through something, but instead you can figure out alternative ways so that you wouldn't have to resort to doing something you know you will regret. He wants to make it known that you never have to get through things alone and that there will always be somebody there for you, by your side. Jay wishes to never have somebody feel like they are stuck at a dead end the way that he was.

What are the core values of your character? (OPTIONAL - MORE INFO IN FAQ)
Jay is the type of person who works to his best ability to achieve his goals. He's a very determined person who doesn't give up easily, it simply isn't an option for him. Jay strives to be the best version of himself, and he won't let anything stop his motivation. He enjoys the peaceful, quiet lifestyle as he always dreamed of it becoming real someday. Jay can also be quite the jokester once warmed up to people. At first, he may be shy or reserved, but over time he turns out to be the talkative type and extroverted, even comfortable enough to speak out loud rather than using JSL or his TTS.
