Have you ever wondered what psychology is? Perhaps ever wanted to learn about it and pursue a career in it? Maybe even use tricks that involve psychology to help you. Don’t worry, I have you covered! Today’s topic will talk about psychology itself. Grab yourself a snack or even a notepad, who knows it might come in handy!

First of all, let's start with the definition of the term psychology. Psychology is a scientific study of human behavior and mind, and how it can affect human functions. Psychology is a study to help us learn more about our minds, our behaviors, and our mental health. Scientists have only discovered 10% of the human brains. That means 90% hasn’t been discovered or the humans don’t have access to use it at all. Not only do scientists take the role of studying the brain but psychologists themselves do their best to help. For example, at the Karakura Hospital, there are Psychiatrists there to help those in need. Not only do they prescribe medications to civilians but they also help civilians with therapy sessions and provide a better understanding towards the patient of what they’re dealing with.

Let's dive deeper! Did you know that there are six areas of psychology? These are biological, cognitive, behavioral, psychodynamic, humanistic, and social perspectives! Psychologists usually study these categories to help with the research they’ve done to get as much information as possible for the human brain and for psychology itself. You might be asking yourself what each of these categories means. Don’t worry I’ll be covering each category for you, that way you can understand them more!

Starting with the Biological Perspective category, what do Psychologists focus on in this category? Well, Psychologists examine the physiological and genetic factors that help influence human behavior and mental state processes. Psychologists tend to investigate how the brain, nervous system, immune system, and genetics contribute to psychological methods. This category is also a huge major factor used within this field. Not only does this focus on the human species but animals too. Psychologists tend to study how the animal brain and everything else just like the human systems work with the biological perspective. Famous philosophers have theories of this perspective such as Charles Darwin himself.

Moving on we have the Cognitive Perspective category, what is the main focus here for Psychologists? Psychologists who focus their studies on this category usually investigate mental processes such as attention, memory, perception, language, problem-solving, and decision-making methods. The top focus in this category is trying to understand the brain's thought process behind all behaviors. Which helps scientists and psychologists get a better understanding of the brain its functions and the factors it may provide.

Up next we have the Behavioral Perspective category, which focuses on the external factors of the mind providing scientists and psychologists with information. This category helps them learn about how conditioning, learning, reinforcement, and environmental stimuli can influence all sorts of behaviors. A known philosopher, John B. Watson is known for the theory he had over this category.

The next category we will be talking about is a bit deeper and in my opinion quite interesting. This category is the Psychodynamic Perspective. This category focuses on the unconscious mind and the early childhood experiences it went through to give a deeper understanding of personality development, and psychological disorders. The big role of this category emphasizes the conflicts of the unconscious and influences with its id, ego, and superego.

The next category that we will be discussing is the Humanistic Perspective. This category focuses on the individual's self growth, and actualization. Self-esteem, self-concept, free will, and the pursuit of meaning and fulfillment in life are some concepts focused on this area. Abraham Maslow was a philosopher who studied in this category and provided a theory.

The final area is the Social Perspective, which examines how individuals are influenced by social events. Such as interactions, group dynamics, cultural norms, and other social factors. It also explores other ideas such as obedience, confidence, prejudice, attitudes, and interpersonal relationships.

Now that we have covered the six areas of different Psychology, we can begin talking about the other fun stuff! Such as why learning psychology is a good idea. Just from all the information given above, Psychology plays an important role in our lives. Having common knowledge of Psychology yourself can help you. Ever wanted to learn some tricks by using Psychology? Don’t worry, I have a few I can share!

Let's say you and a friend are talking and you ask your friend a question. Once you get their answer, you don’t seem to like that answer. What if I told you that if you stare into their eyes and don’t speak it can make them feel under pressure, soon making them speak their answer in more depth? This is a type of Psychology trick that you can use.

Ever had someone raise their voice at you and you either get mad at them back or react differently? Instead of getting mad at them for raising their voice, what if you made them feel guilty instead? You heard that right, and it's quite simple. All you need to do is stay calm during this and it will soon make the other person feel guilty. This will also make the person ask for forgiveness once they feel the guilt.

Ever dreamed of being one of the popular kids in school? Then this is for you, it's quite simple too. Remember everyone's names, if you remember names people will notice that. It will also make people feel special since you remembered their names.

Those are just some simple tricks that you can use in your everyday life with Psychology. There are so many more tricks that you can find if you want to learn more about them. Now then, what kind of career can you pursue in Psychology? There are so many career options you can choose from if you do decide to pursue a career in the Psychology field. The most common option is being a Psychiatrist at a Hospital or even a School Psychologist which is a Counsellor.

The top career choices in Psychology would be, Neuropsychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist, and Sports Psychologist. Having a career within Psychology there is almost something for everyone that they can enjoy with the degree. Do remember Psychology is a difficult topic to learn about and obtain a degree in. However, in the end, it will be worth it.

That is all I’ll be covering today, Karakura. I hope this helped you understand what Psychology is and maybe grabbed your interest in it. This is Oda Watanabe at Karakura News.
