Out-Of-Character Information
What is your Minecraft username?:
Neeryu (main account)
Neeriel (alternative account, applying on this one)
Do you have Discord (If so, what is your discord username?):
My discord is @Neeryu
What is your time zone?:
My timezone is CET/CEST.
Describe your activity on the server:
I am active on a daily basis, with a playtime currently around 32 weeks on my main account. I have created a new account for several purposes, including this application but not exclusively.
Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you will be demoted?:
I acknowledge that inactivity will reasonably lead to demotion. A roleplay faction needs active members to thrive!
School Employee Role you are applying for?:
Librarian
In as much detail as possible, describe the employee role you are applying for:
On paper, the role of the Librarian is to hand out library cards to students and assist them in borrowing books from the library. In roleplay, they are also a general presence on school grounds and a possibility for roleplay beyond their work responsibilities: this includes a presence within the library, informative roleplay regarding the books commonly found in the library (school documents, newspapers, student writings, lore), and hopefully a way to connect characters through interactions. They should be more than a card/book handing automate!
What experience, in general, do you have in roleplay?:
I started my roleplaying journey with text roleplay on social media (e.g. Instagram) for about five years, during which I experimented with several homebrew universes as both a player and game master. I then moved on to tabletop roleplay almost exclusively in the universe of Call of Cthulhu as it placed a heavy focus on player investigations, lore and roleplay rather than fighting and/or optimizing rules to your benefit. I am still doing TTRPG to this day, both as a player and a game master though more scarcely. My focus in TTRPG is to set immersive ambiances and focus on the lore, character development and plotlines allowing as many choices and freedom to other players as possible. I have also been doing LARP (Live Action Role-Playing) for the past five years, in a community which heavily favors P2L and principles such as "cheating against yourself", "choosing the action that will make others shine the most", and generally heavy fairplay. My main roleplay experience is however on SchoolRP which I have joined as a player in summer 2023 and continuously played in ever since. Here, my focus is heavily set on lore and catering to plotlines, interactions, and engaging players into roleplay. I personally place a heavy focus on proper OOC communication to ensure that all players are comfortable in the roleplay they are sharing with me.
Why do you want to join the School Employee faction?:
I am not looking for a Faction with a heavy quota so I may be able to focus on catering to roleplay directly. I like the Faculty roles because they offer a good balance of this where I can work as an Employee during school days and explore other roleplays during IC night time. I am not applying for Teacher/Professor as I have plans for this, but later on. The specific choice of Librarian is for two reasons: a personal affinity with SRP's literature content enabling roleplay in that aspect, but also the fact that it simply fits best the character which I wish to play as a Librarian.

Situations
During a work-shift a student starts cursing at you for being pathetic, how does your character react?:
The persistent smile on Isamu's lips went still. "Is that so?"
Pressing his cane onto the floorboards, the old Librarian pushed himself to stand. He reached out for the student's shoulder, weighing an aged and meager hand to have them sit.
"Pathetic. From Greek, pathētikos for ‘sensitive'. Itself coming from Pathos as defined by Aristotle in his classical rhetoric." he lectured, leaning his weight onto the modest stick of wood. Gloved hand traced the contour of its handle.
"I am certain it will benefit you. Rhetoric is how one can build a proper argument which will have impact." The old man opened one eye to stare from the side. "You ought to learn more about it. Look in the Language section. Back of the Library, near the tutoring rooms." Isamu welcomed.
"While you are there, you may also hear about it from one of our Tutors, yes?" He tutted. "You are here to learn, after all."
-
Isamu favors education before all. He will, by all means, twist and turn any situation into an opportunity to lecture students into any topic linking back to his library. Whilst aware that students may not be receptive to these words, his purpose is more so to disable the situation and have the student reflect on the meaning of their own words. He expects being dismissed, but will certainly reward any student who is willing to learn and be corrected.

You notice two students are physically fighting in the hallway, – multiple punches have been thrown – how does your character react?:
"Quiet." the Librarian barked, glaring in the direction of both troublemakers. He hissed his words, hand clasped onto his walking cane. Creaking bones made their way to the students, yet the old man kept a distance. "It does not have to be mere detention."
Isamu narrowed disturbingly light eyes at the duo. "I am not shy of keeping you both overtime to sort the entire library in alphabetical order." A looming pause. "Though, it would be quite rude to keep them up so late." And a precision. "The books, I mean."
Not expecting a remarkable answer, the Librarian simply stared at them. He would continue staring until the students either parted ways, or dare proceed further.
-
Isamu cares deeply about the books under his watch, and their well-being. The students' well-being? Much less of his concern, though he would not share that mentality openly - it simply shows in his actions. Isamu nonetheless retains a rigorous application of rules and will see them enforced down to the word, most certainly quoting the rulesbook if there comes a need to assert his decision.
[-]
Another school employee is clearly acting inappropriately, doing something very dangerous on the job, how does your character react?:
Dry lips pursed into an expression of foul distaste. "Are you not past that age, yet?"
A scoff of disdain followed that statement, a quiet groan muttering along. The old man slipped a thin notebook out of his clothes, leaning the cane against his hip to free his left hand as it picked up a pencil. He wrote something down in absolute silence, while his pupils remained pinned onto his colleague.
Isamu put the note away, now making his way over the scene. While his body language read dismissal, his eyes were flickering about the room, in search of any elements still potentially dangerous to clear out. Damaged glass, spilled chemicals, or whatever mess his colleague could have possibly caused. His investigation cleared, the old man left without a word.
-
Isamu holds a very different perception of students and colleagues. While students are beneath him, colleagues are equals for as long as they fit his standards. Being inappropriate on the job, especially if dangerous or in front of students, immediately downgrades people in his eyes. Yet, when it comes to school employees, they do remain his colleague on paper nevertheless. While a verbal remark will suffice for himself, Isamu has a habit of taking notes of events occurring around him - logging, committing down to records. Should he eventually head to the Dean's office to make a report, it would be one backed up with thoroughly detailed notes.
[-]
When in the employee break room, how does your character act?
An off-duty gathering for employees was clearly the last type of event that anyone would expect Isamu to willingly attend, and yet here he was. Not standing in some shady corner nor staring at his colleagues from a distance, the old man was in fact standing in the crowd, exchanging mild conversations with a few. "Oh. Where have you studied for your degree, then?"
-
Generally speaking, Isamu does not use the employee break room. He spends a great amount of time in the library, which includes his own meals and breaks. On an OOC approach to this one however, it is very important for me to play characters who, even with their own preferences, do not avoid roleplay because of who they are (e.g. shy, indifferent, filled with ego, unbothered, etc.). The primary purpose of roleplay remains to engage with other characters, and I believe it our duty as players to shape characters who, even within their own flavors, do end up engaging with the world around them. The approach I have taken with Isamu is that, while he does not necessarily give "social butterfly" vibes, he does willingly engage in social life and meetings, even optional. He values staying in touch with reality and that absolutely includes the people composing it.

Provide us with at least three detailed /me's of your character whilst on your chosen role:
/me halted before the shelves, eyelids veiled over his gaze as the old man placed his cane to lean against the wooden structure. Without a sound, a comment nor a glance towards the student, Isamu trailed a gloved finger across the books’ covers until it halted on a specific one. Effortlessly taking it out, the Librarian eventually faced his temporary companion. "Hello." He first stated, as a formal greeting void of genuine interest. "May I help you find a reference?" The question held much more intent. The book he held in hand vanished in his back.
/me tilted his chin up to address the student with a coldly kind smile. Raising a gloved hand above the ancient-looking book laying before him on the desk, the old man shut it close without a sound. "Good morning." A moment of silence followed. He resumed. "If you have a library card, you may borrow or give books back." A brief drumming of his fingers on the desk, followed that statement. "If not, we can make you one." And a brow was arched with ponder. "Or did you have another request?"
/me tapped the tip of his pencil on the clipboard, silver eyes sharply pinned on the listing. The dwindling sunlight was casting warm tones on the bookshelves, the dust starting to finally settle after a whole day of students walking in and through the area. The Librarian stifled an exasperated exhale of mere disappointment. "A book is missing." he murmured in a low tone, as if he dared not disturb the tomes’ rest after a long day. Ignorant of his old age, the man took rapid steps to head back to the offices. Whoever was registered as having last touched that book would surely find out soon enough.

Backstory
Born in 1953 at Tsubasa Hospital

Karakura High School (1965 - 1971)

After suddenly vanishing with his entire family in 1971, Isamu Miura, aged 18, reappeared out of thin air in an isolated village within southern-western Shanxi, Yonghe County. Located along the Yellow River, Qiankunwan 「乾坤湾」was not a village where many foreigners stepped foot. Upon Isamu's arrival in the village, he was met with heavy suspicion: the older generations still held remembrance of the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Japanese occupation, resulting in many locals addressing him derogatorily as 「小日本」("little Japanese"). As a result, the man retreated to live secluded in one of the yaodong 「窑洞」, earth shelter dwellings dug into hillsides of the Loess Plateau. Isamu thus began working independently in cultivation of millet and corn, complemented with fishing in the Yellow River during lower seasons.
While growing a reputation for being self-sufficient, Isamu progressively established daily contacts with the local residents: Jin Chinese being predominantly spoken in the area, his first exposure was in the fields and farmers markets he frequented, but also during festivals or listening to older people who spoke of ancient folktales of the Yellow River. He grew in touch with the culture, out of a need for survival but also out of some grim interest for the stories held in this dim corner of the province.
Across the years, the Jin language etched itself into Isamu's speech as he slowly earned recognition from the locals for his field work at first, but also growing knowledge of local folktales. Spending the entirety of his evenings down the Yellow River, he listened to countless stories and memorized their details, patterns. The Jin language had become a mere tool for his newly found obsession. Yet, as he prevailed in listening, he maintained remnants of his Japanese ancestry for longer: he spoke like a local, knew more than one, yet many picked up on odd patterns in his pronunciation. Retroflex sounds (zh, ch, sh) quaintly stumbled out of his lips, while his speech had found itself scattered with occasional, unusual word choices.
Isamu soon became the origin of many rumors. As locals progressively forgot of his roots, only a lingering sense of uncertainty left them unsettled upon hearing his speech. It most certainly added a charm to his own storytelling, which added upon the rumors and his local reputation. He liked it.

In 1978, Isamu suddenly moved out of Qiankunwan. He settled in Linfen, where he enrolled in Shanxi Normal University and pursued a bachelor's degree with a major in education and a minor in linguistics, over four years. Where many of his Japanese peers formed communities, Isamu was oddly praised for refusing to engage with them - under the alleged belief that such a community would hinder his learning of Chinese.Nevertheless, his student records consistently remarked the same reticence to fully adapt to academic Chinese. Despite being academically gifted and a fast learner, Isamu was met with a brutal reality: while villagers would have easily understood his explanations over farming, weather or folklore matters, professors harshly criticized his pronunciation and formal essays, repeatedly asking him to reword himself.
By the end of his four-year stay in Linfen, Isamu had sufficiently progressed to meet all requirements for his bachelor's degree. He made a return to Japan, leaving many rumors behind and returning for a new start.
Isamu returned to the very place where he grew up: Karakura. Now an adult, he joined at the dawn of the Westernization era, amidst the new wave of expatriates arriving on the island. Due to his accent and degree, he pretty much passed off as one of many Chinese immigrants despite being actually born there.Working as a private tutor, he met a woman by the name of Tomoko「智子」, with whom he got shortly engaged and married the same year at the Town Hall of Karakura City. Together, they had one daughter born in 1983: Minami「巳波」Miura.
During his stay, Isamu bore witness to several events such as the Boiler Room incident, rumors of a cult or a serial killer lurking in the confines of Inner Ochiba Forest, departure of a historical surname put under unfortunate spotlight, reconstruction of the Saiky Palace, scroll findings and general rise of the paranormal on the island among many others.
In late September 2005, Karakura's plaguing corruption was exposed during the collapse of Masamaru Train Station. The family convened to leave the archipelago and settle somewhere on the mainland, as the collapse had been reported by newspapers from all across Japan and Isamu found himself to prefer quiet places, far away from all of those prying eyes. He settled with his wife in a small village in the north of Hokkaido by the name of Otoineppu, as his daughter and son-in-law moved to Sapporo to pursue their careers.
It is in the isolated countryside of northern Hokkaido that Isamu bought a modest house to live in. He took on a job as a School Librarian at Otoineppu Junior High School, while his wife mostly tended to house matters. Suffering from Alzheimer's, Isamu spent his time off to be his wife's caretaker until her passing in 2008.In the meantime, his daughter and son-in-law began facing financial struggles and eventually confided the care of their son to Isamu. He worked both as a Librarian and his grandson's tutor for the length of his homeschooling, with occasional visits being made from the boy's parents.
Isamu eventually retired in 2018 at the age of 65 years old. He sent his grandson to pursue his education at the very same educational institution he had studied himself in, a few decades prior: Karakura High School and Community College.
Maybe Isamu would return there as well, eventually.
Motivation for Joining KHS (Character perspective):
Isamu adjusted the cuff of his sleeves."I have travelled quite a lot in my life." Then returned his attention ahead. "Yet I do seem constantly drawn back here." An aged hand designated the room, but the intent went beyond. "In Karakura."
The old man addressed a coldly kind smile. "I have studied here myself, my daughter walked those same corridors." A dry hum. "I wonder about what could have possibly changed."
[-]
Why should you be accepted over the other applicants?:
An odd smile stretched dry lips. The old man's chin slightly raised, mechanically causing his eyes to lower so they would maintain eye contact with the Dean.
"I could say that I look after the books nicely."
Isamu leaned forward, the couch creaking under the weight shift.
"But anyone could say that. Could they not, Mr. DeLuca?"
The Librarian crossed a meager leg over the other. He leaned back.
"I lived in Karakura until the 1970s. I possess more insight in local literature than any other young Librarian coming in from the mainland. I intend to put that to use."
A thought crossed his mind, causing him to purse a second smile, self-entertained. He commented: "And I do look after the books, really nicely."
