The Future of Dodgeball

Can we do more to make Dodgeball the #1 sport in KHS?

by Tsugi Urushido Jahii and Keio Akori

When it comes to sports teams, what do you think of? Football, Baseball, Volleyball? What about Dodgeball? A sport is more than the game, it’s the people who play it. When have you seen people play dodgeball? Only during PE class? Does that mean people dislike the sport?

No way! From what I’ve seen and experienced, dodgeball is among the most fun sports to play despite only being played during class time.

Dodgeball: A Team Endeavour

Team sports allow everyone, athletic or not, to come together to cheer for their favorite side: Spartans or Bobcats. Footballers will work hard and put in there all while the cheerleaders and crowd dance, chant, and go wild. In Karakura High School and College, we have many team sports, but not dodgeball. But that’s subject to change! A dodgeball team can cause KHS to burst with more energy, and what better way to do so than create one?

Teammates must work together to strategize their next moves, however, dodgeball hasn’t had that special boost to inspire people to learn how to get better in a while. What do you do? Stay in the back? Go for the balls in the middle? Well, you’re in luck because talking to your team can allow you to create the best strategy to dominate your opponents!

Creating a Team: On and Off the Field

Sports teams provide a space for the school to rally together and build community. Currently, there are many school sports and events that can serve as this space, however there is not the opportunity for each student to participate in Karakura school sports. Even just playing on an unofficial dodgeball team can and will increase your involvement with peers at KHS. In turn, this will build bonds between you and people with similar interests as you both on and off the court.

The bond of a team can go far beyond the court. The players can form new friendships with others they might not have spoken to before. This can be seen in many other sports teams. Additionally, those who do not play the sport, but take time to watch the events and support their teams can strengthen their ties with their teams, Spartans and Bobcats. Gathering together for a sporting event gives new students, and veterans, a great opportunity to find where they fit in.
