SUMMARY: In the late chaotic years of the Ming dynasty, a Cantonese merchant named Muhito Zihou fled the main part of China and settled in a small fishing village in Hong Kong. By 1685, he had established one of the largest trading posts. He secured a contract with the British East India Company, learned the English language, and became a trusted intermediary. Within not even two generations, the Muhito name became a name in Hong Kong. The family quietly acquired more land, and by the 18th century became Hong Kong’s wealthiest merchant-clan. They evolved from a merchant clan to a wealthy family of Hong Kong. Six divisions made their way into the family: Ruby, Veil, Ivory, Azure, Gleam, and Manor.
