WHAT YOU NEED TO SUGGEST OR MENTION:

I think that the limit for only two languages per Minecraft account is a bit bothersome, with several points of argument as to why it is tiring and a little too restricting for most players. To begin with, I am friends with some people on SRP that keep multiple characters per account, that have different backgrounds, personalities, and appearances in total.

Some of these characters are of different cultures and descents, meaning that such different characters, may speak individual languages.

As my friends with individual characters, may have trouble being stifled by the 2 language rule, and despite having unique and interesting backstories and reasoning for having different languages, with more roleplay opportunities with intriguing unique interactions, cannot have that.

However, I do understand why this rule is in place, as seeing a single character run around with numerous languages would be particularly strange and slightly unrealistic. I think that, at the least, the language barrier should be upped to 4-5 languages per Minecraft account max; I believe the restriction of only 2 languages per account is very limiting and inconvenient to many different SRP players, roleplay-wise and character-wise. This is especially inconvenient for those who are unable to afford an alt account.

Ultimately, I think that the language system is very useful and valuable and should be utilized more by allowing more than the limitation of only 2 languages per account, and more like 4-5 at max to allow more expansive characters and interactions, And in addition, I strongly doubt it would harm anyone for these people to know a few more languages on the behalf of another character they aren't presently playing.

it’s already rare to see a single polyglot running around, let alone probably dozens of players who could be identified as a polyglot if this rule was allowed - with the two applicable language slots and the fact that every character in karakura knows japanese (unless their character bio says otherwise) that’s three languages max for a character to know

maybe i would be for raising it to three slots (MAYBE), but for sure not 4-5, that’s ridiculous

I think it is a good concept you are recommending but 4 - 5 languages is too extreme I would say 1 - 2 is the MAX at least since a lot of people in real life only speak around 3 different languages in this case like SchoolRP (Japanese, other language and another language) so I think it was a good okay idea, but too extreme

Players ignore realism until theres a rule about it. If you allow there to be more languages characters will simply have more languages to speak. It isn't normal to speak 4 languages. (the current biggest amount if you include english.)

I don't agree, I personally like the diversity. Not only that but as Sam had said, it's rare enough to find people speaking four languages, in fact even two. Several though? A bit of a reach. Now I do agree that there could be a limit to three like previously, though two is completely fine as well.

To be honest with you all, I've had this idea in my head for days now. Hear me out on this: You can have multiple languages, yes, but first you would have to apply for permission to have 3 languages, like for example, have them apply and answer why the language would benefit SRP and how it would make sense with your character, are there any restrictions to using the language, for example not very fluent but can understand simple and common phrases, etc. Once that application would've been accepted, then they can go on and apply for the 3rd language and link the application proving they are allowed to put 3 languages in the language application itself. But, only thought I have is definitely no more than 3 languages because then people can start trolling with many different languages.

Adding onto what Luca has said as I didn't think about this earlier. - Nearly every player on SRP icly speaks two languages (BOTH PERFECTLY MIGHT I ADD.) with usually a third language. Every single player has a multicultural character that is somehow smart enough to learn multiple languages but still act dumb/aren't the most intelligent. if you were to add further languages it would just boost this gap between actual intelligence and the somehow ability to learn way too many languages.

Perhaps there should be certain restrictions from this (perhaps academics like teachers or professors that teach languages being able to learn 4-5 languages) but otherwise this is a definite no from me.

Everyone above has made valid argument and points, and I agree with everyone, truthfully. Though, I'd say 2 +JSL would be fair.

Reason being, JSL is sign language. You don't speak it. I'm multicultural and multilingual in real life. I can also fluently speak sign language. I typically use it to communicate with my friends from across the class room (back when we were doing physical school) and there was a student with a hearing aid. I'd use sign language to communicate with her, so it was easier for her.

My 2 cents is being put towards three languages as JSL is not a language you speak with your mouth. For me, personally, ESL (English sign language) is like muscle memory.

though no one "speaks" jsl, its still counted as a language like every other (as well as every other sign language)

doesnt make sense for anyone but teachers and/or government workers to have more than two languages (excluding native language), it'd be cool to see some multilingual 16 year old with seven kuri katanas and a bounty of over 1 million yen, but i dont see it happening

also to comment on the main post, and excluding the comments, 4 or 5 languages is really unrealistic lol. there are very few people (~1% of the world population) that are polyglots and none of them would be 17 year old students in a city that has more problems than the capitol building of the US

i can see college students knowing two languages easily (excluding their native language) and, even, maybe a third language they aren't fluent in but still learnin. i cant all too see a highschooler speaking fluent in like Xhosa and Sinhala which cant be moderated because thats a real PIA

BAHAHA I mean, yeah, fair enough. You're not wrong about that. I'm an EMS on my main, so I have 3 languages at the moment. Seeing people who know how to RP not speaking a language fluently is rather non-existent. So far, I've only seen one person who fluently speaks Russian ICly and broken Japanese. They were quite good at RPing with bad Japanese!

It'd be like asking a 1 year old to tell the difference between the different anxiety disorders. Overall, I agree with what the points you're making. Seeing as to how speaking Japanese (ICly) is already knowing one language fluently. So, in a sense, everyone is already speaking three languages, fluently might I add.
