VPN trouble and not really sure what to do?

My friend wants to check out the server with me but when he tries to connect to the school roleplay server it says he can't because of a VPN. He doesn't have one and hasn't used one ever. So we're just stumped on what to do. He has already said something in the discord but asked if I could also ask here as well. Help would be appreciated!
