this is such a big thing that i agree with a bunch if you look at SRP from far away it looks very welcoming but it isnt people only roleplay with their friends and theres nothing wrong with that dont get me wrong but if you only roleplay with certain people everyday it kinda just gets bland just for being friends with someone in real life your outcasted in roleplay having a bed reputation or just not being a popular player also comes to play if you arent popular you wont get that much roleplay unless you REALLY try hard to roleplay with othersit’s been a while since I’ve answered these, wouldn’t be surprised if Staff has me down as ‘complicated’.
But I agree with Lunere, and even add onto it and my reasons.
Firstly, For me I have semi-quit/fully quit because I’m an adult, and I have a life. I have new hobbies, a relationship, and a Job. SRP really doesn’t make it Adult friendly (atleast the ones that aren’t in school.) at all. I come back to roleplay when I am feeling invested into my SRP character and I have time. But it’s only rarely as I’m afraid to have her in committed roleplays and I don’t log on for months (this can go onto 8/9 months offline.) simply because I don’t want to and it holds back not just the ppl I would rp with but so much roleplay that shouldn’t take so long to get over. I also end up missing out on a lot. So I’d rather stay offline and pop on sometimes, but it’s usually never worth it.
Now to add on, Honestly. The community isn’t the best, and People have found it incredibly hard to roleplay with others even if some are like “Oh you can rp with me just say hi icly!” It happens, never talk again. Even then, people only like their cliques and won’t leave from it- Most would rather be BORED and stand in one spot for hours on srp than to roleplay with someone new. It’s hard for me to roleplay like that and get motivated.
The factions. The staff leads to now vs the ones early 2020’s are drastically different. I feel like they can’t necessarily answer to Applications on time, plus only Approve those who put in a lot of unnecessary effort into their applications (like banners, mind you I’m not hating lemme continue..) or their friends + Reputation still matters for some reason. I don’t want to put a load shit of effort into my character application then it gets rejected because it doesn’t look like I put extra extra (like banners.) also, dont want to be friends with majority of the faction oocly to be approved in, nor do I want to do the most for a good reputation which MANY people who have been on SRP for a good while understand that Reputation has to be the worst thing to actually need.
Aka, when your character/you have high reputation. People only want to rp with you JUST because of that, nothing else. Plus, lately people with High Reputations have been outed to not being the best people to be around.
Overall, back then Applications were easy. Unless you were actually known for things that give side-eyes, Multiple warns or Bans. It was way easier to being accepted into a Faction and grow your character. With this new system, it genuinely sucks cause I don’t want to rp as a College Student or Highschool Student, sometimes I want to rp as a character that is like me. A working Adult trying to survive, PLUS. The server is incredibly boring if you are just a [Adult], you don’t have anything to do, there’s nothing that opens during school time for adults- and majority of other adults are either AFK or don’t know how to interact icly.
Besides, most characters are sorta copy & pastes of eachother. I don’t want to rp with 10 Regina Georges in one day.
+ A lot of people just haven’t been able to roleplay .. correctly? Or even understand their character emotions.
anyways ima stop, byeee
SRP is an addiction, a drug. And if you step away from it you start to feel regret, guilty and have the urge to come back. It’s withdrawal from something that’s so toxic to you. Some people may dismiss that SRP is not an addiction because they don’t want to believe or admit that but it really is. The community is so toxic. Old days SRP was good but today’s SRP is bad. SRP may be just a hobby for some people but eventually it can turn into an addiction, to feel like a chore and feel like you must be on the server 24/7 and if you miss just one day of it then you feel like you miss everything and people get onto you for not being on because you have IRL responsibilities and other life matters to attend to.
Simply, if you left SRP or are taking an hiatus make it permanent. Don’t give in on the urge to come back. Don’t let the toxic community give in on you. SRP is an addiction. A drug. There are far better things out there than this server sucking your life away.
(To be fully transparent) not everything we bring to the table has to be our RP.At the time I felt blocked, unable to develop properly my character, and thought I RP badly or without style. This was really doing harm to my mental health, not a huge amount, but a concerning one. SRP was no longer fun to play! Then college hit and I had no time to play SRP. I left it for good!
After a few months, I returned. I still want to do things better, and give my projects more love. However, I have stopped caring whether my RP is good, or bad. Why? Because I do not have the chances to get feedback about it! So I understood it might aswell be a problem of self perception. So, yeah my RP might not be good, I might get stuck between what I want to say and what my character wants to say, I might not be quick yara yara yara.. But at the end of the day, this is a silly MC server. I still have no idea how to develop my character, and I will likely never get the chance! And that is sad but it is okay!
However this does not mean I have not had the chance to better understand character writing. I think I get it now, at least somewhat better! That fills me with lots of joy! So does knowing I have made one of the few functional websites within SRP forums, and that I am (barely) able to keep it updated and care for it, the fact I built it takes away all.
So, I guess my story here is not so tragic compared with others, and I hope it can serve as a good cautionary tale as much as other's stories will!
