Shop Information
What do you plan to do with the shop/what makes it unique?
The entire business would be operated *as though* the shop itself were some grandiose estate despite the fact it… clearly is not. The name of the shop would be the 'Maboroshi Chateau', with "maboroshi" (まぼろし) meaning "phantom, vision, illusion”.It’s not an actual Château. The exterior of the shop, however… would put up a pretty good Façade; almost looking or appearing as though it might have been, once upon a time.
All customers would be greeted as though they lived there and would be ‘welcomed home’ upon entry by employees dressed as maids and butlers. This ‘estate’, due to the fact it is… quite small, as most shops tend to be, will be dilapidated. It will look somewhat run down or old despite some highly extravagant and sumptuous pieces of furniture scattered around.
The vibes of a shop like this, with a ballroom, butlers, maids, etc. ... It is extremely different from a nightclub, a Karaoke bar, or a restaurant with a stage for live performances. Ballroom dancing just is a lot more quiet, refined, and intimate. I can 100% see this shop being a popular place for couples as well as families given all the family-friendly parlor games that can take place quietly 'aside' from the ballroom. A ballroom just has a certain allure and glamor that is unmatched by existing shops.This environment works to the benefit of the shop as shop openings tend to be quite loud, high traffic, etc. Having small rooms you can funnel big families into, and having a big ballroom where most people are seated, where dancing is always an option .... it seems very appropriate, and orderly. Also, given parlor games happen indoors, they can be very quiet which can be great given how noisy shop openings tend to be. Things a group can do quietly at a table and get enjoyment out of would be fantastic from that sort of perspective.
WELL, I'd like to think at the superficial level: I meet all the basic requirements reviewers want to see from a shopkeeper applicant regarding:
- Activity
- Clean history vis-a-vis server rules
- Capability to be patient, fair, and use common sense.
So I am left wondering what else I can cite to make me 'stand out' from the numerous other applicants that need to be reviewed.
Here is what I've come up with:
- Worth noting I've applied previously, but not just for a shopkeeper role, SPECIFICALLY for a restaurant/cafe which I am doing again.
- Involvement with factions: Teacher, Professor, Government, Clubs ... All of these involve collaboration with others to some degree or another, working within a 'team' to an extent, so it is worth citing. If shopkeepers exist to create a space to encourage roleplay, then I can safely say with a degree of confidence I can do that, which may be of some comfort to application reviewers.
- Involvement with Community (EVENT) Team: As far as I'm aware, this helps. I mean to say, that it helps by showing that, outside of working within a team: I can coordinate events which shops sometimes do independently or in collaboration WITH the Event Team.
- My characters and verified business: I like to think the two characters I play the most both encourage RP to a high degree. One is currently leading a school club and one is a teacher also running a verified business which Town Hall has described as a Christian Organization. Despite the name ('Archdiocese of Karakura') it is one of the more active businesses running events every month, with prizes etc. in collaboration with REALLY anyone in the SRP Community who seeks involvement. It's pretty neat! It's also led to some rewarding and funny little interactions, protests, and Onrain beef with 11/7 included. Love that for us. It also had like... a small event with the blessing of Town Hall; a 'boot camp' which was very cooked, but extremely well received.
Shopkeeper / Character Information
I felt it would be right to add this. In a way, shopkeepers themselves encourage and promote RP through their character, so writing something like this, where it assumes the character is already a shopkeeper and painting a world where that has happened can be instructive for application reviewers.

Education: Alois has three academic qualifications: B.A Catholic Philosophy, Master of Divinity, Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
A public figure in Karakura. A [former] Law Professor and History teacher, also known to some as the Archbishop of Karakura. He has decided to ‘step away’ from the Academy, using the money he has accrued during his tenure to breathe life into the Maboroshi Chateau. He has been described as ‘passionate’ by student journalists, though a ‘bit of a religious nutjob’. It can not be denied, however, that he is an extremely charismatic figure with a proven record of mobilizing people. He has managed to successfully lobby the Karakura government to abolish administrative fees required before defendants could enter a not-guilty plea and to make it easier for people to visit felons in the KPD visitation room; the latter efforts captured the attention of Karakura News.
He claims the idea for this ‘Maboroshi Chateau’ to have come to him when he learned the Akihito and Saiky families do not really open their estates to the general public and 'are hardly party animals'. He, having had the opportunity to engage in ballroom dancing in his youth was deeply distressed by the fact Karakura only seemed to have a karaoke bar, small stages sprinkled around town, and derelict nightclubs that have fallen into disuse...
Despite Alois' intentions... he is often a highly polarizing and controversial figure, making enemies with business leaders (11/7) in the past for pointing out false advertising, with the media for pointing out perceived 'bias' and 'cowardice' in their reporting, and CONSTANTLY with the government for their 'tyranny'. His ownership of a shop has only seemed to increase his profile, with much of the money he earns being funneled into the Archdiocese to promote charity, community organizing, and protest efforts.
Additional notes about your application: All questions vis-a-vis 'shop information' in the format were answered, simply not in the prescribed order.
Do you have any questions?: Yes. I am curious if custom furniture items in the possession of the shopkeeper can be used for decoration even if they aren't being sold. I ask this because, aside from aesthetic reasons (i.e. the numerous bougie food furniture that would work wonderfully in an environment like this), some furniture items that exist would be fantastic for parlor/indoor games, such as a DnD dungeonmaster screen that would actually see use. I have seen people use it to play DnD quietly in small groups and that's very epic. I just think that's neat!
