What experiences do you have with roleplay?:
My roleplay experiences mainly come from SRP and D&D.
Over the past four years on SRP, I’ve delved deeper into faction-based roleplay, having been involved in the Shrine faction, which taught me about cultural roleplay, though I was a bit young to fully understand everything. The past year and three months I’ve been part of the government faction however in which I played a lawyer, Hansel Desmond. This has deepened and intensified my experience with SRP roleplay and what is expected in it from most people.
Furthermore, I’ve also been playing Dungeons and Dragons (5th edition) with friends on the regular.
What is your motivation for applying?
Last year I applied to enter EMS as a psychiatrist, sadly I was not chosen. Since then I’ve spent a lot of time in the government faction. Having seen it all in government faction, I recently decided to resign and chase an old dream, rejoining EMS.
One of my best friends who used to be a psychiatrist encouraged me to apply, stating that it’s a really fun profession on the server. So combining my own interest in mental health, an old dream to become a psychiatrist on SRP and having recently quit government means that the time is neigh for me to try again.
It’s a chance to combine my love for roleplaying with a subject I care about, and I look forward to developing both my character and my skills.
Which role are you applying for?
Psychiatrist
What knowledge do you have of the roles within the Hospital Faction?
The hospital operates with a structured top-down hierarchy.
- The hospital director oversees the faction, making major decisions and managing the higher-ups, the deputy director assists the director in such matters.
Each department, paramedic, doctor, and psychiatrist is led by a clinical lead, who manages their department’s members and organizes training and activities. They form the higher ups within EMS.
Paramedics handle emergency calls and are trained to assist both doctors and psychiatrists with their regular tasks. They are the only ones who are allowed to leave the hospital for interventions.
Doctors and psychiatrists start as residents, handling core duties. With experience, they progress to attending roles, taking on leadership, training, and guidance responsibilities. This structure ensures clear progression and strong teamwork. Despite this resembling career path their day to day tasks are quite different.
Doctors focus on the physical aspect of injuries, starting from mere stitches up until morgue-work, complicated surgeries and even organ transplants.
Psychiatrists however can also provide basic care like stitches but specialise in the healthy mind of individuals, mostly through therapy, though a combination of therapy and medication is also often used.
Do you acknowledge that if training is held whilst you are online, you are expected to attend or you will be punished?
Yes!

SECTION 1: PERSONAL DETAILS
Character’s Full Name:
The young woman smiled brightly and it felt a little like a ray of sun had entered the room, she sat down, waited for the first question and answered in a warm and rather melodic voice
My name is Pommelyn Thys. I’m also called “Pom” by those who know me better.
Character’s Gender and Pronouns:
I identify as female.
Character’s Age (if accepted):
I’m currently 25 years of age and turn 26 in about half a year. I started studying at the rather young age of 16.
Character’s Academic Background:
Master’s in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Minor in Music
Postgraduate Degree in Music Therapy
Character’s Nationality:
Belgian
Character’s Marital Status:
Single
Character’s Religious Denomination:
I don’t really find myself believing in anything myself, but I of course keep an open mind. So I’d say I’m agnostic.
Character’s Spoken Languages:
Of course I speak English, Dutch, Japanese and a basic level of French.
Character Backstory (Optional):
I grew up in a very busy household with a couple of siblings. There was always something going on, even if it was just the TV playing out loud despite nobody was watching.
Music however was my first love, it really helped me figure out how I felt and to calm myself down when I was overcome with emotion.
Helping people and being social has always been a part of my life. I joined the local scouting organisation when I was younger because I liked being outside and learning about survival skills. Being outside in the nature also gave me a certain calmness which I missed at home due to the ever-present noise everywhere.
As I got older I got into being a pack leader and part of the leadership team within the scouting. There was nothing quite like singing with friends around a campfire under a starry night sky. It sounds romantic, but then again it kind of was as well.
When I moved to one of the larger cities to start my higher studies, Antwerp, I had to quit the scouting as it wasn’t feasible anymore for me to contribute as I once did. I picked up volunteering in a local youth center where I mainly provided some guidance, a shoulder to cry on and some basic music lessons for the youths with a sense of rhythm. It was mainly due to my experience there that I really got into music therapy.
After my Erasmus-experience I worked abroad in the Netherlands for half a year and then jumped onto the opportunity of moving here to Karakura. The Japanese feeling of harmony and silence has always quite attracted me. So it’d be quite amazing to be able to practice my profession here in this lovely city.
SECTION 2: MEDICAL HISTORY
What is your character’s medical speciality? Why did they choose this focus?
So thanks to my experience in youth organisations and volunteering it felt quite natural to roll into the child- and adolescent psychiatry. After all those who are still forming themselves need most support, I find. The brain doesn’t stop developing until the mid 20s so I do think I can both relate and understand my patients rather well.
As music has helped me so much and I really believe it sings to everyone’s soul from time to time, I’ve decided to get a postgraduate degree in musical therapy. So my formal education is a masters in psychiatry and PG in musical therapy.
Does your character have any work experience in medical positions?
I have limited formal experience except my internships and half a year work experience in a psychiatric hospital in the Netherlands. But as I said before I volunteered extensively at a youth center, where I worked with adolescents one-on-one and in groups. Through this, I developed observational skills, recognized emotional patterns, and learned how structured activities foster emotional safety.
SECTION 3: CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE
Describe your character; how do they look, what makes them unique? How would they be perceived by others?
Pommelyn has a powerful presence and a lot of charisma, she radiates a warmth and even happiness without opening her mouth. In her spare time she is sometimes seen wearing rather odd-looking clothes and she is rather proud to say that she designs and sows a lot of these herself. She loves bright colours and her favourite colour is purple, which she makes clear in most of her clothing.
How does your character act around the hospital?
I attempt to observe before intervening, providing calm support for both patients and colleagues. Due to my nature keeping on the background for a longer period is difficult. But I will stand down if the situation requires it. After all, in the scouting we also learn about survival in the wilderness. Something which might even be useful in this town I’ve heard, with all these rabid bears about.
Does your character function better on their own or with others?
I’m absolutely a teamplayer! I love input and feedback from other medical professionals. After all in our line of work there’s no such thing as perfection and knowing it all.
The nature of the psychiatric profession is of course less group-oriented as most therapy is performed 1 on 1. I do however believe that we can provide better care for our patients if we would approach the psychiatric therapy from a group approach, of course each with our specialisations.
One of my friends who already works at the hospital has told me there are some great team-activities every week as well. I’d love to be able to know the colleagues and see them there. After all bonding outside of work is important to increase the effectiveness on the floor and to keep our head cool during rather trying situations which we will, no doubt, be facing.
